The structure and dynamics of a catanionic vesicle are studied by means of femtosecond up‐conversion and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The catanionic vesicle is composed of dodecyl‐trimethyl‐ammonium bromide (DTAB) and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS). The DLS data suggest that 90 % of the vesicles have a diameter of about 400 nm, whereas the diameter of the other 10 % is about 50 nm. The dynamics in the catanionic vesicle are compared with those in pure SDS and DTAB micelles. We also study the dynamics in different regions of the micelle/vesicle by varying the excitation wavelength (λex) from 375 to 435 nm. The catanionic vesicle is found to be more heterogeneous than the SDS or DTAB micelles, and hence, the λex‐dependent variation of the solvation dynamics is more prominent in the first case. The solvation dynamics in the vesicle and the micelles display an ultraslow component (2 and 300 ps, respectively), which arises from the quasibound, confined water inside the micelle, and an ultrafast component (<0.3 ps), which is due to quasifree water at the surface/exposed region. With an increase in λex, the solvation dynamics become faster. This is manifested in a decrease in the total dynamic solvent shift and an increase in the contribution of the ultrafast component (<0.3 ps). At a long λex (435 nm), the surface (exposed region) of a micelle/vesicle is probed, where the solvation dynamics of the water molecules are faster than those in a buried location of the vesicle and the micelles. The time constant of anisotropy decay becomes longer with increasing λex, in both the catanionic vesicle and the ordinary micelles (SDS and DTAB). The slow rotational dynamics (anisotropy decay) in the polar region (at long λex) may be due to the presence of ionic head groups and counter ions.  相似文献

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (purified, p‐MWNT and ~ NH2 functionalized, f‐MWNT) were melt‐mixed with 50/50 cocontinuous blends of polyamide 6 (PA6) and acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene in a conical twin‐screw microcompounder to obtain conductive polymer blends utilizing the conceptual approach of double‐percolation. The state of dispersion of the tubes was assessed using AC electrical conductivity measurements and melt‐rheology. The rheological and the electrical percolation threshold was observed to be ~ 1–2 wt % and ~ 3–4 wt %, respectively, for blends with p‐MWNT. In case of blends with f‐MWNT, the rheological percolation threshold was observed to be higher (2–3 wt %) than p‐MWNT but the electrical percolation threshold remained almost same. However, the absolute values were significantly lower than blends with p‐MWNT. In addition, significant refinement in the cocontinuous morphology of the blends with increasing concentration of MWNT was observed in both the cases. Further, an attempt was made to understand the underlying concepts in relation to cocontinuous morphologies that how the geometrical percolation threshold which adversely suffered because of the attrition of tubes under prolonged shear contributed further in retaining the rheological percolation threshold. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nanocrystalline MFe2O4 (M?=?Co, Ni) particles are synthesized by citrate precursor technique. Mössbauer and magnetic studies are carried out with the CoFe2O4 samples having particle sizes of 9, 14 and 30 nm and the NiFe2O4 samples having particle sizes of 9, 21 and 30 nm. The intrinsic magnetic parameters are found to vary with the particle size. The magnetic interactions and cation distribution present in these systems influence the room temperature Mössbauer parameters. Ferrimagnetic sextets are observed for all the different particle sizes. The observed reduction of the magnetic hyperfine field values with the decrease in the size of MFe2O4 particles are attributed to the intrinsic size effect and the canted spin structure at the surface of the nanoparticles.  相似文献

Investigations have been performed on lanthanum-modified layered ferroelectric bismuth titanate for composition Bi3.25La0.75Ti3O12 (BLT) using impedance spectroscopy to understand the role of microstructure on the dielectric properties of this important material. A wide range of frequency and a wide range of temperature passing through the Curie point were chosen for the measurement. The frequency dependence suggested an interfacial polarization controlled Maxwell–Wagner type relaxation at low frequencies, and the impedance spectrum correlated with the mathematical fitting indicated the presence of two types of interfaces, which were attributed to the metallurgical boundaries and the twinned planes parallel to the bismuth oxide layers inherent to the crystal structure within the metallurgical grains. A careful analysis of the dielectric properties, particularly the ac-conductivity analysis revealed that the grain boundaries did also follow their own Jonscher-like relaxation, and the overall relaxation of the sample changed to a purely grain boundary-limited response at low frequency to a pure grain-limited response at higher frequencies. And overall admittance of the ceramic sample neither follow unmodified nor modified Jonscher's law rather its behaviour can be well described by series addition of Jonscher's admittance corresponding to grain boundary and grain. It was demonstrated that the frequency response of the ac conductivity was related to the microstructure exactly in the same way as any other dielectric function, like the impedance or dielectric constant, a fact, which is not much emphasized in the open literature.  相似文献

We study the dynamics caused by transport of transverse magnetization in one dimensional transverse Ising chain at zero temperature. We observe that a class of initial states having product structure in fermionic momentum-space and satisfying certain criteria, produce spatial variation in transverse magnetization. Starting from such a state, we obtain the transverse magnetization analytically and then observe its dynamics in presence of a homogeneous constant field Γ. In contradiction with general expectation, whatever be the strength of the field, the magnetization of the system does not become homogeneous even after infinite time. At each site, the dynamics is associated with oscillations having two different timescales. The envelope of the larger timescale oscillation decays algebraically with an exponent which is invariant for all such special initial states. The frequency of this oscillation varies differently with external field in ordered and disordered phases. The local magnetization after infinite time also characterizes the quantum phase transition.  相似文献

The thermal radiation effect on a steady mixed convective flow with heat transfer of a nonlinear (non-Newtonian) Williamson fluid past an exponentially shrinking porous sheet with a convective boundary condition is investigated numerically. In this study, both an assisting flow and an opposing flow are considered. The governing equations are converted into nonlinear ordinary differential equations by using a suitable transformation. A numerical solution of the problem is obtained by using the Matlab software package for different values of the governing parameters. The results show that dual nonsimilar solutions exist for the opposing flow, whereas the solution for the assisting flow is unique. It is also observed that the dual nonsimilar solutions exist only if a certain amount of mass suction is applied through the porous sheet, which depends on the Williamson parameter, convective parameter, and radiation parameter.  相似文献

Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and ferroelectric liquid crystal (P–FLC) composite films (~ 4 μm) with varying proportions of ferroelectric liquid crystal have been prepared and the dielectric response of the composite films as a function of wide frequency (100 Hz–10 MHz) and temperature (127–40 °C) have been analyzed. The dielectric spectra of such composite systems are considerably modified compared to those of the corresponding pure LC or PMMA materials. The observed paraelectric to ferroelectric transition temperature of the composites is found to be lower (~ 85 °C) compared to that of the pure LC system (~ 98 °C), which makes these composites technologically more significant. The P–FLC composites also exhibit higher relaxation frequency and smaller dielectric strength for the Goldstone mode compared to those of the corresponding pure FLC. Depending on the percentage of the constitute materials, the molecular dynamics of the composite materials changes. Dielectric contributions of both liquid crystal and PMMA matrix forming the composites have been analyzed on the basis of Havriliak and Negami function.  相似文献
