First report of Zn2+ sensing exclusively at mesoscopic interfaces

We present a simple but unique, new probe 1-pyrenyl-methyl-bis(2-picolyl) amine (Pybpa) that selectively senses interfacially bound Zn2+ ions while being completely silent towards Zn2+ in bulk water.     

An unprecedented oxidative migration of a methyl group from 2-(2',6'-dimethylphenylazo)-4-methylphenol mediated by ruthenium and osmium

An unprecedented chemical transformation of 2-(2',6'-dimethylphenylazo)-4-methylphenol has been observed upon its reaction with [M(PPh(3))(3)X(2)] (M = Ru, Os; X = Cl, Br) whereby one methyl group from the phenyl ring of the arylazo fragment migrates to the metal center via oxidation to CO.     

Homogeneity of Lanthanide Doped Ceria Nanocrystal Dispersions Using High-resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy

Aqueous sols of crystalline solid solutions of the general formula Ce_1-xLn_xO_2-x/2x/2 [Ln = entire lanthanide range, x = 0–0.50 and square = anion vacancy] were synthesised using inorganic materials. The nanocrystals were dispersed on an amorphous silica support and individual crystals examined for composition and structure by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HREM) and energy dispersive analysis of X-rays (EDX). High-resolution pictures showed the nanocrystals to be mainly between 5 and 10 nm in size, rarely elongated and with atomically clean faceted surfaces.Diffractograms were used to measure the lattice parameters of the face-centre-cubic (fcc) fluorite structures giving values, depending on dopant species and concentration of dopant, in the range 5.5–5.8 Å. EDX analysis of individual crystals with the same nominal composition compared closely to each other and to that of an average over a large area indicating good homogeneity from the preparation method.     

Processable heat-resistant polymers—XVI: Polyamideimidesulphonamides

Polyamideimides having sulphonamide linkages were prepared by low temperature polycondensation of 2-sulphoxy-1,3-dioxoisoindoline-5-carboxylic acid with various diamines in the presence of thionyl chloride. The polymers were soluble in highly polar solvents. The solubility parameters of the polymers were calculated from Small's group contributions. Isothermogravimetric data indicated that the polymers were fairly thermostable.     

Stability and bifurcation in a diffusive prey-predator system: Non-linear bifurcation analysis

A stability analysis of a non-linear prey-predator system under the influence of one dimensional diffusion has been investigated to determine the nature of the bifurcation point of the system. The non-liner bifurcation analysis determining the steady state solution beyond the critical point enables us to determine characteristic features of the spatial inhomogeneous pattern arising out of the bifurcation of the state of the system.     

Efficient algorithms for computing the maximum distance between two finite planar sets

An 0(n log n) algorithm is presented for computing the maximum euclidean distance between two finite planar sets of n points. When the n points form the vertices of simple polygons this complexity can be reduced to 0(n). The algorithm is empirically compared to the brute-force method as well as an alternate 0(n²) algorithm. Both the 0(n log n) and 0(n²) algorithms run in 0(n) expected time for many underlying distributions of the points. An ?-approximate algorithm can be obtained that runs in $\text{0(n +}\text{1}\text{?}\text{)}$ worst-case time.     

Mössbauer studies of57Fe intercalated CdPS3

The results of Mössbauer Investigation of⁵⁷Fe, Intercalated in layered CdPS₃ of two differrent concentrations (0.05, 0.1) of iron point out that the guest species occupies three distinguishable sites in the Van der Waals gap and exhibits three doublets. Moreover, for the case of Fe_0.1 CdPS₃ in addition to these three doublets arising from Fe²⁺, three sets of magnetically split patterns Indicating ordering appear. The isomer shift, quadrupolar splitting, and Internal magnetic field for all the specimens studied, have been measured.
