This work reports on the performance of a carbon black suspension (CBS) working as an optical limiter at the sub-nanosecond regime. Although this material is known to be inefficient at this time scale, we show that its limiting action can be enhanced with a multipass configuration due to the accumulative effect that is provided when the laser beam is repeatedly focused inside the nonlinear medium. We also show that the focusing produced by the self-phase modulation of femtosecond pulses is deleterious to the accumulative process and the limiting is not as good as for picosecond pulses. Multilayer films consisting of polyethylenimine (PEI) and albumin were successfully prepared on biomedical 316L stainless steel surface via electrostatic self-assembly of the PEI and albumin. The process of electrostatic self-assembly of PEI/albumin was monitored by125I radiolabeling, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The EIS data revealed that the multilayer coating was stable in Tris-HCl (pH 7.35) buffer solution for 21 days. 125I radiolabeling experiments indicated that less than 10% albumin was eluted by PBS in 45 days. Static platelet adhesion experiments indicated that the PEI/albumin deposited on stainless steel could resist platelet adhesion effectively. Such an easy processing and shape-independent method may have good potential for surface modification of cardiovascular devices.  相似文献

We present a determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa parameter |V(us)| based on new measurements of the six largest K(L) branching fractions and semileptonic form factors by the KTeV (E832) experiment at Fermilab. We find |V(us)|=0.2252+/-0.0008(KTeV)+/-0.0021(ext), where the errors are from KTeV measurements and from external sources. We also use the measured branching fractions to determine the CP violation parameter |eta(+-)|=(2.228+/-0.005(KTeV)+/-0.009(ext))x10(-3).  相似文献

The KTeV experiment at Fermilab has isolated a total of 132 events from the rare decay K(L)-->e+ e- mu+ mu-, with an estimated background of 0.8 events. The branching ratio of this mode is determined to be [2.69+/-0.24(stat)+/-0.12(syst)]x10(-9), with a radiative cutoff of M(2)(ee mu mu)/M(2)(K)>0.95. The first measurement using this mode of the parameter alpha from the D'Ambrosio-Isidori-Portolès (DIP) model of the K(L)gamma*gamma* vertex yields a result of -1.59+/-0.37, consistent with values obtained from other decay modes. Because of the limited statistics, no sensitivity is found to the DIP parameter beta. We use this decay mode to set limits on CP and lepton violation.  相似文献

We demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that secure communication using intermediate-energy (mesoscopic) coherent states is possible. Our scheme is different from previous quantum cryptographic schemes in that a short secret key is explicitly used and in which quantum noise hides both the bit and the key. This encryption scheme allows optical amplification. New avenues are open to secure communications at high speeds in fiber-optic or free-space channels.  相似文献

The present study advances a theoretical and experimental investigation of the frost growth and densification on flat surfaces. This study focuses on the most important factors affecting the frost formation process, i.e. the surrounding air temperature, humidity and velocity, and the surface temperature. The processes of frost growth and densification were investigated experimentally in order to provide a physical basis for the development of a theoretical model to predict the variation of the frost layer thickness and mass with time. The mathematical model was based on mass and energy balances within the frost layer, assuming the frost as a porous medium and accounting for the supersaturation of the moist air on the frost surface. The governing equations for mass and heat diffusion were integrated analytically, giving rise to a semi-algebraic formulation which requires numerical integration of only one time dependent ordinary differential equation. When compared with experimental data, the model predictions of the frost thickness as a function of time agreed to within ±10% error bands. The experimentally-validated model was then used to predict the frost layer growth and densification with respect to the operation conditions such as plate surface temperature, air stream temperature, humidity and velocity.  相似文献

Julocrotine, N‐(2,6‐dioxo‐1‐phenethyl‐piperidin‐3‐yl)‐2‐methyl‐butyramide, is a potent antiproliferative agent against the promastigote and amastigote forms of Leishmania amazonensis (L.). In this work, the crystal structure of Julocrotine was solved by X‐ray diffraction, and its geometrical parameters were compared with theoretical calculations at the B3LYP and HF level of theory. IR and NMR spectra also have been obtained and compared with theoretical calculations. IR absorptions calculated with the B3LYP level of theory employed together with the 6‐311G+(d,p) basis set, are close to those observed experimentally. Theoretical NMR calculations show little deviation from experimental results. The results show that the theory is in accordance with the experimental data. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A family of new imidazolium salts derived from natural amino acids has been synthesized and tested for NMR enantiodiscrimination, as chiral shift reagents, of carboxylic acids. These imidazolium receptors contain different structural modifications and the splitting of the signals of the acids, after addition of the corresponding CSRs, depends on these structural variables. Compound 8b exhibited the strongest chiral solvating properties for racemic Mosher acid and was recognized as a suitable CSR for the determination of its enantiomeric composition.  相似文献

Using molecular dynamic simulations, we study a system of particles interacting through a continuous core-softened potentials consisting of a hard core, a shoulder at closest distances, and an attractive well at further distance. We obtain the pressure-temperature phase diagram of this system for various depths of the tunable attractive well. Since this is a two length scale potential, density, diffusion, and structural anomalies are expected. We show that the effect of increasing the attractive interaction between the molecules is to shrink the region in pressure in which the density and the diffusion anomalies are present. If the attractive forces are too strong, particle will be predominantly in one of the two length scales and no density of diffusion anomaly is observed. The structural anomalous region is present for all the cases.  相似文献

Pterins (also known as pteridines) are common animal colorants that constitute heterocyclic compounds and have the highest nitrogen content of any pigment analyzed from animals. It has been reported that pterins modulate oxidative stress as these molecules are able to scavenge free radicals. Previous reports suggest three possible mechanisms that are responsible for scavenging free radicals; these are electron transfer (ET) reaction, hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) and radical addition. In this paper, the facility to scavenge free radicals (antiradical power) of pterins is analyzed, using density functional theory calculations and considering two possible mechanisms: ET and HAT. For the electron transfer process, considering the electron donor facility of the free radical scavenger molecules, vertical ionization energy of pterins indicates that the antiradical power of those pterins is lower than the antiradical power of any carotenoids (except for tetrahydrobiopterin). In terms of the HAT mechanism, the bond dissociation energy involved in the removal of one hydrogen atom from pterins is higher than for carotenoids (except for sepiapterin and 7,8-dihydrobiopterin). It can be expected that the most reactive molecules are those that have the smallest dissociation energy since the dissociation of the hydrogen atom is the first step of the reaction. This could indicate that some pterins are depicted as poorer antiradicals than carotenoids in terms of the HAT mechanism. Further studies focusing on the third mechanism (radical addition) and the kinetics of the reactions are necessary in order to fully understand the antiradical power of these substances. For this reason, work continues in order to clarify these aspects.  相似文献
