Photon-exchange processes at hadron colliders as a probe of the dynamics of diffraction

The rich structure of photon-exchange processes at hadron colliders is studied. We discuss central vector meson production , W production and production. Each process has distinct, and large, soft pp rescattering effects, which can be directly observed by detecting the outgoing protons. This allows a probe of the optical density of the proton, which plays a crucial role in the evaluation of the rapidity gap survival probabilities in diffractive-like processes at hadron colliders. We note that an alternative mechanism for production is odderon, instead of photon, exchange; and that the ratio of odderon to photon contributions is enhanced (suppressed) for vector meson production. Interpreting Intuitionistic Propositional Logic in Terms of Intuitionistic Protothetics

An algebra of sentences of the quite intuitionistic protothetics, that is, an intuitionistic propositional logic with quantifiers augmented by the negation of the excluded middle, is a faithful model of intuitionistic propositional logic.     

Annealing effects on the magnetization of Co–Ni–B amorphous nanoparticles

Chemically prepared (Co_xNi_1−x)_1−yB_y (x=0.5, 0.75, 1; y≈0.4) amorphous fine particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, DTA and TGA, and in situ magnetic measurement as a function of annealing temperature in an inert atmosphere. Magnetic measurement performed in as-prepared and 150°C annealed samples shows an increase of the saturation magnetization and magnetic moment after thermal treatment. Room temperature magnetization increases by factors of 3.5, 1.8, and 1.5, for x=0.5, 0.75, and 1, respectively. These measurements may indicate a local re-ordering of the amorphous phase at temperatures much lower than the full crystallization temperature.     

Infrared and Raman spectroscopic investigation of Eu3+-doped mono and Di-urethanesil hybrid siliceous materials

The general features of two series of sol-gel derived materials, designatedurethanesils (Ut), have been investigated by infrared and Raman spectroscopies with the goal of elucidating the chemical environment of the Eu³⁺ cations. The host frameworks of the two families of ormolytes studied have been represented by m-Ut(350) and d-Ut(300), where m stands for mono, d stands for di, 350 and 300 are the average molecular weights of the organic precursors (poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether, PEGME, and poly(ethylene glycol), PEG, respectively). The hybrid matrix of the mono-xerogels is composed by a siliceous backbone bonded by means of urethane linkages (-NHC (=O)O-) to pendant methyl end capped oligopolymer chains with approximately 7 oxyethylene units, whereas that of the di-xerogels is based on a siliceous network grafted through urethane groups to both ends of poly(oxyethylene) segments containing about 6 (OCH₂CH₂) repeat units. Both classes of materials have been doped with europium triflate (Eu(CF₃SO₃)₃). The doped samples have been identified by m-Ut(350)_nEu(CF₃SO₃)₃ and d-Ut(300)_nEu(CF₃SO₃), where n is the molar ratio of (OCH₂CH₂) repeat units per Eu³⁺ ion. Materials with n ranging from ∞ to 5 have been analyzed. The spectral data obtained provide evidence that the cations begin to coordinate to the ether oxygen atoms of the oligopolymer chains at n=40 in the mono-urethanesils and at n=10 in the di-urethanesils. In mono-urethanesils samples with n>40 and in di-urethanesils materials with n>10, the Eu³⁺ coordinate exclusively to the carbonyl oxygen atoms of the urethane linkages. Full-Wave Analyses for a Multi-Layered Microstrip Patch Antenna

This paper describes numerical modelling of a dual band multi-layered microstrip patch antenna operating at 35GHz on an in-house semi-insulating GaAs substrate. The simulated and measured resonant frequencies at both lower and upper resonant frequencies will be compared to check the accuracy of the different numerical modelling techniques.     

Non-trivial simple poles at negative integers and mass concentration at singularity

Let (X,0) be the germ of a normal space of dimension n+1 and let f be the germ at 0 of a holomorphic function on X. Assume both X and f have an isolated singularity at 0. Denote by J the image of the restriction map , where F is the Milnor fibre of f at 0. We prove that the canonical Hermitian form on , given by poles of order at in the meromorphic extension of , passes to the quotient by J and is non-degenerate on . We show that any non-zero element in J produces a “mass concentration” at the singularity which is related to a simple pole concentrated at for (in a non-na?ve sense). Liquid chromatographic analysis of prednisolone, prednisone and their 20-reduced metabolites in perfusion media

A reversed-phase liquid chromatographic assay was developed to quantitate prednisolone, prednisone and the 20 alpha-dihydro and 20 beta-dihydro reduced metabolites of both parent compounds in tissue culture media from in vitro perfusions of the human placental lobule. Steroids were extracted from perfusate, using reversed-phase cartridges, with average recoveries of 95.2% or greater. The internal standard for the analyses was 6 alpha-methylprednisolone. In this assay cortisol coelutes with prednisolone, however, no other significant interferences were found. Assay of each steroid was linear in the range 0-1 microgram/ml. Intra-assay coefficients of variation were measured at 10 and 750 ng/ml with ranges of 3.4% (20 alpha-dihydroprednisone) to 8.8% (20 beta-dihydroprednisolone) and 4.1% (20 beta-dihydroprednisone) to 8.8% (prednisone). The corresponding inter-assay coefficients of variation were 3.3% (20 alpha-dihydroprednisone) to 9.1% (20 beta-dihydroprednisolone) and 1.9% (prednisolone) to 3.5% (prednisone). The analyses utilized two C18 columns which were linked together and maintained at 40 degrees C.
