A Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of turbulent flow over an airfoil near stall is performed. Results of the LES are compared with those of Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations using two well-known turbulence models, namely the Baldwin-Lomax model and the Spalart-Allmaras model. The subgrid scale model used for the LES is the filtered structure function model. All simulations are performed using the same structured multi-block code. In order to reduce the CPU time, an implicit time stepping method is used for the LES. The purpose of this study is to show the possibilities and limitations of LES of complex flows associated with aeronautical applications using state of the art simulation techniques. Typical flow features are captured by the LES such as the adverse-pressure gradient and flow retardation. Visualization of instantaneous flow fields shows the typical streaky structures in the near-wall region.  相似文献

We study the fluorescence enhancement of dye molecules adsorbed on regular two-dimensional arrays of designed silver nanoparticles. The silver particles show two orthogonal optical resonances at different wavelengths because of their elongated shape. The short-wavelength resonance was designed to fit to the absorption maximum of the fluorophore. When the excitation light drives the short-wavelength resonance, the measured fluorescence intensity is strongly enhanced compared to that for the orthogonal particle orientation. This shows directly a strong electromagnetic coupling between the nanoparticles and the fluorophore. Additionally enhanced photochemical bleaching is observed due to the interaction of fluorophores with the particles. Using a rate model describing the fluorescence enhancement and the bleaching enhancement, an average value for the particle-induced increase in the radiative fluorescence rate is obtained, together with a lower limit for the averaged particle-induced field intensity enhancement factor. We describe a surface plasmon polariton- (SPP-) based device for measuring the intensity distribution of strongly focused light beams. A gold thin film configured as a sharp step is positioned in the focal region of a light beam, converting light into SPPs. The SPPs emit directional leakage radiation into the glass substrate beneath the thin film. The intensity of the leakage radiation is proportional to the intensity of the incident local light at the position of the step, allowing us to reconstruct the optical field profile by scanning the thin film's edge through the focal region.  相似文献

The present insight into plasmon effects on the nanoscale seems sufficiently advanced to allow the development of surface-plasmon-polariton- (SPP-) based optical devices. Therefore quantitative information describing SPP phenomena is required. We investigate a SPP beam splitter constituted by silver nanoparticles on a silver thin film, fabricated by electron-beam lithography. We acquire quantitative information on the beam splitter performance by monitoring SPP leakage radiation, yielding SPP reflection, transmission, and scattering efficiencies.  相似文献

Ultrathin metal films consisting of regular two-dimensional arrays of 44–95 nm sized silver nanoparticles were fabricated by electron-beam lithography. By independent variation of particle shape and interparticle distance, respectively, the film's optical extinction maximum wavelength can be tuned in a range from 460 nm to 520 nm and the bandwidth between 50 and 100 nm. The results suggests the potential of lithographically designed nanoparticle films as thin layer material with tailorable optical properties for applications in microoptics and optoelectronics.  相似文献

We study elastic band gaps in nonhomogeneous periodic finite media. The finite-difference time-domain method is used for the first time in the field of elastic band-gap materials. It is used to interpret experimental data for two-dimensional systems consisting of cylinders of fluids (Hg, air, and oil) inserted periodically in a finite slab of aluminum host. The method provides good convergence, can be applied to realistic finite composite slabs, even to composites with a huge contrast in the elastic parameters of their components, and describes well the experiments.  相似文献

We give a brief survey of our recent research on polysilane Langmuir-Blodgett-Kuhn films. Surface-plasmon experiments, IR and flourescence-lifetime measurements have been performed to study the complex photophysical and photochemical processes in these materials following UV irradiation. Quenching effects of the polysilane backbone and their influence on the ablation-kinetics are discussed.  相似文献
