Raman scattering in YBa2Cu3O7 single crystals: Anisotropy in normal and superconductivity states

Precise temperature and polarization dependences of Raman spectra have been investigated for fully oxygenated twin-free YBa₂Cu₃O₇ single crystals. We have found a striking superconductivity-induced x−y anisotropy in the temperature behavior of the 340 cm⁻¹ line: the magnitudes of the softening and broadening are quite different in the xx-and yy-polarizations. This anisotropy suggests a contribution of the CuO-chain superconductivity with a pairing symmetry different from that for the CuO₂ plane, or indicates that the superconducting gap amplitudes are different in the k _x and k _y directions. Oxygen isotope effect in optimally doped Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ studied by low-energy ARPES

Using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) with low-energy tunable photons, we studied the oxygen isotope effect in optimally doped Bi₂Sr₂CaCu₂O_8+δ (Bi2212). We found the oxygen isotope shift in the real part of the electron self-energies [ReΣ(ω)s] along the nodal direction derived not only from the momentum distribution curves (MDCs) but also from the energy distribution curves (EDCs). Present results indicate straightforwardly the coupling between the nodal electrons and the phonons.     

Novel molecularly hybridized polyethylene/silica composite materials: Polymerization of ethylene with supported titanocenes by mesoporous silicates

A novel molecularly hybridized polyethylene/silica composite thin film was obtained by the gas‐phase polymerization of ethylene with a titanocene‐mounted mesoporous silica layer on a mica plate with mesoscopic pores arranged on the film surface. However, the use of titanocene‐mounted hexagonal domains of mesoporous silica on a glass plate for the gas‐phase polymerization of ethylene resulted in the formation of an islanded polyethylene/silica hybridized material. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Summary of the IZEST science and aspiration

Over 30 associated laboratories across 13 countries are part of the international program known as IZEST (International center for Zetta-Exawatt Science and Technology), which has been initiated and coordinated by the École Polytechique and the CEA. Together, this collaboration of laboratories are exploring new ways to push laser peak power and intensities beyond the present horizon with the aim to perform Laser-Based High Energy Physics.
