In this paper, a new trust region algorithm is proposed for solving unconstrained optimization problems. This method can be regarded as a combination of trust region technique, fixed step-length and ODE-based methods. A feature of this proposed method is that at each iteration, only a system of linear equations is solved to obtain a trial step. Another is that when a trial step is not accepted, the method generates an iterative point whose step-length is defined by a formula. Under some standard assumptions, it is proven that the algorithm is globally convergent and locally superlinear convergent. Preliminary numerical results are reported. 相似文献

Open-ended problems have been regarded as powerful tools for teaching mathematics. This study examined the problem solving of eight mathematics/science middle-school teachers. A semi-structured interview was conducted with (PTs) after completing an open-ended triangle task with four unique solutions. Of particular emphasis was how the PTs used a specific heuristic strategy. The results showed that the primary strategy PTs employed in attempting to solve the triangle problem task was guess and check; however, from the PTs’ reflections, we found there existed misapplications of guess and check as a systematic problem-solving strategy. In order to prepare prospective teachers to effectively teach, teacher educators should pay more attention to the mathematical proficiency of PTs, particularly their abilities to systematically and efficiently use guess and check while solving problems and explain their solutions and reasoning to middle-school students. 相似文献

We propose a process for determining approximated matches, in terms of the bottleneck distance, under color preserving rigid motions, between two colored point sets A,B∈R2, |A|≤|B|. We solve the matching problem by generating all representative motions that bring A close to a subset B′ of set B and then using a graph matching algorithm. We also present an approximate matching algorithm with improved computational time. In order to get better running times for both algorithms we present a lossless filtering preprocessing step. By using it, we determine some candidate zones which are regions that contain a subset S of B such that A may match one or more subsets B′ of S. Then, we solve the matching problem between A and every candidate zone. Experimental results using both synthetic and real data are reported to prove the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 相似文献

In the present article, the droplet dynamics in turbulent flow is numerically predicted. The modelling is based on an interfacial marker-level set (IMLS) method, coupled with the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations to predict the dynamics of turbulent two-phase flow. The governing equations for time-dependent, two-dimensional and incompressible two-phase flow are described in both phases and solved separately using a control volume approach on structured cell-centred collocated grids. The topological changes of the interface are predicted by applying the level set approach. The kinematic and dynamic conditions on the interface separating the two phases are satisfied. The numerical method proposed is validated against a well-known computational fluid dynamics problem. Further, the deformation and breakup of a single droplet either suddenly moved in air or exposed to turbulent stream are numerically investigated. In general, the developed numerical method demonstrates remarkable capability in predicting the characteristics of complex turbulent two-phase flows. 相似文献

In this paper, nonlinear systems having multiple equilibrium points and low order dynamics are investigated. Roll motions of ships are studied by means of modern nonlinear techniques to exemplify the behavior of such nonlinear systems in the case when they are under the influence of external sinusoidal disturbances with unknown amplitudes. The main objective is to analyze the performance of this system at different operating conditions, including those giving rise to chaos, and to design a controller with an overparameterized structure to stabilize the system at the origin. A nonlinear recursive backstepping controller is proposed and the transient performance is investigated. Lyapunov-based techniques are used to force systematic following of a reference model while introducing a nonlinear parameter estimator to guarantee adaptivity. Robustness problems as well as ways to tune the controller parameters are examined. Simulation results are submitted for the uncontrolled and controlled cases, verifying the effectiveness of the proposed controller. Finally, a discussion and conclusions are given with possible future extensions. 相似文献

island-like structures to fractal patterns. In this work we investigate the patterns arising from the interplay of colloidal
copper sulfate suspensions containing carbon nanotubes with few-layer graphene substrates. The compositions of the thin film
samples were investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, surface topography and the nanostructure of the thin films
were probed with atomic force microscope and transmission electron microscope respectively. The colloidal suspensions were
characterized using contact angle and viscosity measurements. The colloidal suspensions when dip coated on few-layer graphene
substrates exhibited fractal like morphology with the aggregation of copper sulfate crystallites to hexagonal platelets. This
aggregation is explained invoking the depletion attraction theory. The various patterns observed experimentally were reproduced

The KdV–Burgers equation for dust acoustic waves in unmagnetized plasma having electrons, singly charged nonthermal ions, and hot and cold dust species is derived using the reductive perturbation method. The Boltzmann distribution is used for electrons in the presence of the cold(hot) dust viscosity coefficients. The semi-inverse method and Agrawal variational technique are applied to formulate the space–time fractional KdV–Burgers equation which is solved using the fractional sub-equation method. The effect of the fractional parameter on the behavior of the dust acoustic shock waves in the dusty plasma is investigated. 相似文献
