We investigate the thermoelectric properties of GaN with p-and n-type doping by the first principles calculation and the semi-classical Boltzmann theory. We find that the power factors (S2σof p-type GaN (-3500 W/mK2) is about twice that of the n-type (-1750 W/mK2), which indicates the thermoelectric properties of p-type GaN would be better. Thermal conductivity of GaN crystal decreases rapidly as the temperature increases, but it is still too large for thermoelectric applications. The figure of merit (ZT) estimated at 1500 K is 0.134 for p-type GaN crystal and 0.062 for the n-type. 相似文献

A method for observing near-surface fluctuations in pH caused by a water–air flux of carbon dioxide under conditions of ambient
atmospheric carbon dioxide levels is developed and tested. Peaks in fluorescence intensity measured as a function of pH and
turbulence are shown to be consistent with predictions from a chemical kinetics model of CO2 exchange. The square root of the frequency of the pH fluctuations scale linearly with independently measured bulk air–water
gas transfer velocities in agreement with surface divergence models for air–water gas transfer. These data indicate that the
method proposed here is tracking changes in near-surface CO2 concentrations. This laser-induced fluorescence method can be used to study the air–water exchange of CO2 in wind-wave tunnels without the need for elevated CO2 concentrations in the gas phase. 相似文献

A generalized Kochen-Specker theorem is proved. It is shown that there exist sets of n projection operators, representing n yes-no questions about a quantum system, such that none of the 2 possible answers is compatible with sum rules imposed by quantum mechanics. Namely, if a subset of commuting projection operators sums up to a matrix having only even or only odd eigenvalues, the number of yes answers ought to he even or odd, respectively. This requirement may lead to contradictions. Low energy laser irradiation therapy in medicine is widespread but the mechanisms are not fully understood. The aim of the present study was to elucidate the mechanism by which the light might induce therapeutic effects. Skeletal muscle cultures were chosen as a target for light irradiation and nerve growth factor (NGF) was the biochemical marker for analysis. It was found that there is a transient elevation of intracellular calcium in the myotubes immediately after irradiation (P<0.001). Preincubation of the myotubes with either the photosensitizers 5-amino-levulinic acid (5-ALA), or with hematoporphyrin (Hp) enhanced the elevation of cytosolic calcium (P<0.001) after helium/neon irradiation (633 nm) with an energy of 3 J/cm(2). In addition, helium/neon irradiation augmented the level of NGF mRNA fivefold and increased NGF release to the medium of the myotubes. Thus, it is speculated that transient changes in calcium caused by light can modulate NGF release from the myotubes and also affect the nerves innervating the muscle. The NGF is probably responsible for the beneficial effects of low-level light. 相似文献
