Background  

It is well known that both semantic and syntactic information play a role in pronoun resolution in sentences. However, it is unclear what the relative contribution of these sources of information is for the establishment of a coreferential relationship between the pronoun and the antecedent in combination with a local structural case constraint on the pronoun (i.e. case assignment of a pronoun under preposition governing). In a prepositional phrase in German and Dutch, it is the preposition that assigns case to the pronoun. Furthermore, in these languages different overtly case-marked pronouns are used to refer to male and female persons. Thus, one can manipulate biological/syntactic gender features separately from case marking features.  相似文献

The microwave heating of a ceramic composite is modelled andanalysed. The composite consists of many small ceramic particlesembedded in a ceramic cement. The composite is assumed to bewell insulated, and each particle is assumed to be in imperfectthermal contact with the surrounding cement. Based on thesetwo assumptions an asymptotic theory exploiting the small Biotnumber and small non-dimensional contact conductance is developed.Our asymptotic theory yields a set of nonlinear partial differentialequations which govern the temperature in the composite. Theseare reduced to a set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differentialequations in which the surface area of each particle entersas a parameter. Recent experiments with such composites haveshown that the steady-state temperature of the composite isstrongly dependent upon the radii of the embedded particles.Our model captures this effect. In fact, our analysis showsthat the assumption of imperfect thermal contact between theparticles and the ceramic cement is essential for this trendto be established.  相似文献

Iron oxide nanoparticles hosted in silica aerogels   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The investigated hybrid materials consist of non-agglomerated iron oxide particles hosted in silica aerogels. The composite material can be produced as a monolith, in any shape, and with different dilutions of the iron oxide phase. Two sol–gel chemistry routes have been followed: a solution of Fe(NO3)3·9H2O has been added either to the silica gel or to the initial sol; in the latter, the iron salt provided the water required for the gel polymerisation. To obtain monolithic aerogels, the gels were dried by hypercritical solvent evacuation. On the other hand, some gels were dried by slow and controlled evaporation of the solvent, resulting in xerogels. Several heat treatments have been performed and the iron oxide particle phase, growth mechanism and crystallinity have been analysed. The composite materials were characterised by means of X-ray diffraction, M?ssbauer spectrometry and superconducting quantum interference device magnetometry. It was observed that the particle sizes (in the nanometre range) and the thermal stability of the iron oxide phases strongly depend on the preparation method that determines the microstructure of the host material. Consequently, the magnetic properties of the nanoparticles can be controlled via synthesis conditions, matrix properties and thermal treatments. Docking simulations were performed in order to investigate surface area of interaction between several ribonucleases and a reduced model for the hydrophobic moiety used in Phenyl Sepharose using the program AutoDock 3.0. For each ribonucelase, 80 independent simulations with populations consisting of 100 random structures were performed and from these the most probable docked protein-ligand conformations were obtained. A new methodology was used to select the most probable conformations, based on qualitative and quantitative considerations. The interacting amino acids in each protein were identified. The average surface hydrophobicity of the interfacial zone (local hydrophobicity, LH) was determined. The LH showed a high correlation level (r2 = 0.99) with the "hydrophobic contact area" (HCA) experimentally determined for the different ribonucleases as well as with the dimensionless retention time (r2 = 0.90). This study allowed us to identify the zones on the protein surface most probably involved in protein retention in HIC, without tedious experimental work. Given the good correlation level obtained, this new methodology may constitute a novel approach that could be used to predict protein behavior in HIC.  相似文献

Ligand-exchange micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography was used for the chiral resolution of underivatized and dansyl amino acid enantiomers simultaneously. The separation was achieved by chiral copper(II)-L-valine complexes incorporated in micelles of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The enantioresolution was strongly affected by SDS and a concentration of 20 mM SDS was shown to be necessary for the separation. Other impacting factors were investigated including pH, the molar ratio of copper(II) to L-valine and the total concentration of complex. Using the proposed method, 11 different dansyl amino acids and two underivatized amino acids were separated successfully with a running electrolyte of 20 mM NH4OAc, 4 mM CuSO4, 8 mM L-valine and 20 mM SDS at pH 9.0 in less than 25 min. Experiments were also performed with other amino acid ligands in order to vary the stability and the sterical arrangement of the copper(II) complexes and the possible chiral recognition mechanism was also discussed briefly.  相似文献
