ABSTRACTRadon, thoron and associated progeny measurements have been carried out in 71 dwellings of Douala city, Cameroon. The radon–thoron discriminative detectors (RADUET) were used to estimate the radon and thoron concentration, while thoron progeny monitors measured equilibrium equivalent thoron concentration (EETC). Radon, thoron and thoron progeny concentrations vary from 31?±?1 to 436?±?12 Bq?m–3, 4?±?7 to 246?±?5 Bq?m–3, and 1.5?±?0.9 to 13.1?±?9.4 Bq?m–3. The mean value of the equilibrium factor for thoron is estimated at 0.11?±?0.16. The annual effective dose due to exposure to indoor radon and progeny ranges from 0.6 to 9?mSv?a–1 with an average value of 2.6?±?0.1?mSv?a–1. The effective dose due to the exposure to thoron and progeny vary from 0.3 to 2.9?mSv?a–1 with an average value of 1.0?±?0.4?mSv?a–1. The contribution of thoron and its progeny to the total inhalation dose ranges from 7 to 60?% with an average value of 26?%; thus their contributions should not be neglected in the inhalation dose assessment. 相似文献

Prevention of aggregation is critical for analyzing protein structure. Non-detergent sulfobetaines (NDSBs) are known to prevent protein aggregation, but the molecular mechanisms of their anti-aggregation effect are poorly understood. To elucidate the underlying mechanisms, we analyzed the effects of dimethylethylammonium propane sulfonate (NDSB-195) on acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF). NDSB-195 (0.5M) increased both aggregation and denaturation temperatures of aFGF by 4 degrees C. Chemical shift perturbation analyses indicated that many affected residues were located at the junction between a beta-strand (or 3(10)-helix) and a loop, irrespective of the chemical properties of the residue. The apparent dissociation constants of the interaction ranged from 0.04 to 3M, indicating weak interactions between NDSB and protein molecules. 相似文献

Pure rotational spectra of S235Cl2 and S235Cl37Cl have been observed using a Fourier-transform microwave spectrometer. An analysis of the hyperfine structure made by considering the nuclear spin statistics showed that S2Cl2 has C2symmetry, where the hyperfine splittings due to the two Cl nuclei were analyzed precisely. The nuclear quadrupole coupling constants including the off-diagonal (χab, χac, χbc) components and the nuclear spin–rotation interaction constants associated with the two Cl nuclei have been determined for the first time. A star-shaped Ru/Os tetranuclear complex, in which a central Os unit is linked to three peripheral Ru units by 4,4'-azobis(2,2'-bipyridine) (azobpy) bridging ligands, was prepared to examine the unique photodynamics regulated by its redox state. The Ru/Os tetranuclear complex exhibits Ru-based luminescence at 77 K, whereas the three-electron reduction (one for each azobpy) of the Ru/Os complex results in luminescence from the Os unit. The photoexcited state of the Ru/Os complex rapidly decays into low energy metal-to-ligand charge-transfer states, in which the excited electron is localized in the azobpy ligand in the form of azobpy(.-). Upon the one-electron reduction of the azobpy ligands, the above-mentioned low-energy states become unavailable to the photoexcited complex. As a result, an energy transfer from the Ru-based excited state to the Os-based excited state becomes possible. Ultrafast transient absorption measurements revealed that the energy transfer process consists of two steps; intramolecular electron transfer from the terminal bipyridine ligand (bpy(.-)) to form azobpy(2-) followed by a metal-to-metal electron transfer. Thus, the Ru/Os tetranuclear complex collects light energy into the central Os unit depending on the redox state of the bridging ligands, qualifying as a switchable antenna. 相似文献

Photophysics and photochemistry of 2-anthracenecarboxylate (AC) bound to bovine serum albumin (BSA) were investigated in detail for the first time by electronic absorption, circular dichroism (CD), steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence, fluorescence quenching, and product analysis studies. Through the spectroscopic investigations, it was revealed that the four independent binding pockets of BSA, which are known to accommodate 1, 3, 2, and 3 AC molecules in the order of decreasing affinity, are distinctly different in hydrophobicity, chiral environment, and accessibility. Interestingly, AC bound to site 1 gave highly structured fluorescence with dual lifetimes of 4.8 and 2.1 ns in an intensity ratio of 3:2, which may be assigned to the existence of two positional or orientational isomers within the very hydrophobic site 1. In contrast, the lifetime of AC in site 2 was much longer (13.3 ns), and ACs in sites 3 and 4 have broader fluorescence spectra with lifetimes that were practically indistinguishable from that in bulk water (15.8 ns). Although each of sites 2-4 simultaneously binds multiple AC molecules, no CD exciton coupling or static fluorescence quenching was detected, indicating that ACs bound to each site are not in close proximity to each other. Quenching studies with nitromethane further confirmed the significant difference in accessibility among the binding sites; thus, ACs bound to sites 1 and 2 are highly protected from the attack of the quencher, affording 32 and 10 times smaller rate constants than that for free AC in water. Product studies in the presence and absence of nitromethane more clearly revealed the photochirogenic performance of each binding site. Although the addition of nitromethane did not greatly alter the product distribution, the enantiomeric excesses (ee's) of chiral cycloadducts 2 and 3 were critically manipulated by selectively retarding the photoreaction occurring at the more accessible binding sites. Thus, the highest ee of 38% was obtained for 2 in the presence of 18 mM nitromethane, while the highest ee of 58% was attained for 3 in the absence of nitromethane, both at [AC]/[BSA]=3.6. 相似文献

Intramolecular trans-vinylsilylation using silicon-tethered alkynylvinylsilanes 3b-c was catalyzed dramatically by Lewis acids such as EtAlCl(2) to give the corresponding six-membered silacycles 4b-c in high yields. The reaction proceeded via an exo-mode cyclization. In addition to the vinylsilylation, the intramolecular trans-arylsilylations using carbon-tethered alkynylarylsilanes 8a-b were also catalyzed by Lewis acids such as HfCl(4) to give six- and seven-membered cyclic (E)-vinylsilanes 9a-b, respectively. The cyclization of silicon-tethered substrates 13a-d afforded five- and six-membered silacycle products 14a-d in low to high yields. Tannin-like p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene 1,3-digallate was synthesized, and its conformational property was investigated by dynamic (1)H NMR and X-ray crystallography. It was found that the 3-OH (or 5-OH) group of the galloyl group in p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene 1,3-digallate is placed at the position where an unusual nonbonded close contact is observed between the OH group and the aromatic ring of the galloyl group facing each other. The calixarene 1,3-diesters of various hydroxybenzoic acids were also prepared, and the conformational properties of those calixarenes were compared with that of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene 1,3-digallate. A significant contribution of the 3- and 5-OH groups in pendant groups toward the close contact was found. It was suggested that the conformation of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene 1,3-digallate was stabilized by intramolecular hydrogen bonds including OH.O and OH-pi interactions. 相似文献
