Structural materials containing silicon are produced in single celled organisms through to higher plants and animals. Hydrated amorphous silica is a colloidal mineral of infinite functionality that is formed into structures with microscopic and macroscopic form. Proteins and proteoglycans are suggested to play a critical role in the catalysis of silica polycondensation and in structure direction during the formation of these magnificent structures. This article extends knowledge on the effect of protein containing biosilica extracts from Equisetum telmateia on the kinetics of silica formation and structure regulation. Utilising potassium silicon catecholate as the source of soluble silicon, bioextracts obtained from plant silica by dissolution of the siliceous phase with aqueous HF following extensive acid digestion of the plant cell wall were found to modify the kinetic rate constants for the formation of small silicic acid oligomers under circumneutral pH conditions and to modify the solubility of silicic acid in solution. Addition of the bioextracts at ca. 1 wt% to the reaction medium reduced the sizes and range of sizes of the fundamental silica particles formed and led to the formation of crystalline polymorphs of silica under conditions of ca. neutral pH, room temperature and in the absence of multiply charged cations, conditions assumed to be relevant to the biological mineralization environment. The ability of biological organisms to regulate the formation of silica structures with prevention of crystallinity is discussed as are the implications of this study in terms of the generation of new materials with specific form and function for industrial application.  相似文献

We disclose a Ni-catalyzed regioselective dialkylation reaction of alkenylarenes with α-halocarbonyls and alkylzinc reagents. The reaction produces γ-arylated alkanecarbonyl compounds with the generation of two new C(sp3)−C(sp3) bonds at the vicinal carbons of alkenes. This reaction is effective for the use of primary, secondary and tertiary α-halocarboxylic esters, amides and ketones in conjunction with primary and secondary alkylzinc reagents as the sources of two C(sp3) carbons for the dialkylation of terminal and cyclic internal alkenes.  相似文献

In order to achieve a carbon-efficient circular economy, a paradigm shift is required to valorize carbon dioxide (CO2) and organic wastes into value-added products. Among others, microbial electrosynthesis (MES) and electrofermentation (EF) technologies have shown the potential to contribute to the circular carbon economy. Besides carbon conversion, both technologies can be applied to store excess green energy in the form of valuable transportable chemicals. This article sheds light on the current status of MES and EF technologies by covering the most important literature from the last two years. Recent progress on reactor design and process optimization, scale-up attempts, and a summary of ongoing or completed technology-oriented research projects over the recent years are presented. Furthermore, the key challenges and future research perspectives desired to enable the implementation of the MES technology are also discussed.  相似文献

In the Fermi Lectures on the obstacle problem in 1998, Caffarelli gave a proof of the mean value theorem which extends to general divergence form uniformly elliptic operators. In the general setting, the result shows that for any such operator L and at any point x0 in the domain, there exists a nested family of sets {Dr(x0)} where the average over any of those sets is related to the value of the function at x0. Although it is known that the {Dr(x0)} are nested and are comparable to balls in the sense that there exists c,C depending only on L such that Bcr(x0) ? Dr(x0) ? BCr(x0) for all r >?0 and x0 in the domain, otherwise their geometric and topological properties are largely unknown. In this paper we begin the study of these topics and we prove a few results about the geometry of these sets and give a couple of applications of the theorems.

We show that the isomorphism problem is solvable in the class of central extensions of word-hyperbolic groups,and that the isomorphism problem for biautomatic groups reduces to that for biautomatic groups with finite centre.We describe an algorithm that,given an arbitrary finite presentation of an automatic group Γ,will construct explicit finite models for the skeleta of K(Γ,1) and hence compute the integral homology and cohomology of Γ.  相似文献
