Native fluorescence characteristics of blood plasma were studied in the visible spectral region, at two different excitation wavelengths, 405 and 420 nm, to discriminate patients with different stages of oral malignancy from healthy subjects. The fluorescence spectra of blood plasma of oral malignant subjects exhibit characteristic spectral differences with respect to normal subjects. Different ratios were calculated using the fluorescence intensity values at those emission wavelengths that give characteristic spectral features of each group of experimental subjects studied. These fluorescence intensity ratios were used as input variables for a multiple linear discriminant analysis across different groups. Leave-one out cross-validation was used to check the reliability of each discriminant analysis performed. The discriminant analysis performed across normal and oral cancerous subjects classified 94.7% of the original grouped cases and 93.7% of the cross-validated grouped cases. A classification algorithm was developed on the basis of the score of the discriminant functions (discriminant score) resulted in the analyses. The diagnostic potentiality of the present technique was also estimated in the discrimination of malignant subjects from normal and nonmalignant diseased subjects such as liver diseases. In the discriminant analysis performed across the three groups, normal, oral malignancy (including early and advanced stages) and liver diseases, 99% of the original grouped cases and 95.9% of the cross-validated grouped cases were correctly classified. Similar analysis performed across normal, early stage of oral malignancy, advanced oral malignancy and liver diseases correctly classified 94.9% of the original grouped cases and 91.8% of the cross-validated grouped cases.  相似文献

Delta-aminolevulinic acid-photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) has emerged as a useful technique in the treatment of superficial basal cell carcinoma, actinic keratosis, squamous cell carcinoma and tumors of other organs. Earlier reports mention that there is reappearance of protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) after photoirradiation of tumors. This property of reappearance of PpIX is being utilized to treat nodular tumors by fractionated light dose delivery. However, there is still no unanimously accepted reason for this reappearance phenomenon and the rate of resynthesis after PDT. On account of this, studies are carried out on the estimation of the pharmacokinetics of the ALA-induced PpIX in mice tumor models and the surrounding normal tissues before and after PDT. Further, a mathematical model based on a multiple compartment system is proposed to estimate the rate parameter for the diffusion of PpIX from the surrounding normal tissues into the tumor tissue (km) caused by photobleaching during PDT with irradiating fluences of 36.0 and 57.6 J/cm2. The km value at two different fluences, 36.0 and 57.6 J/cm2, are estimated as 3.0636+/-0.7083 h(-1) and 6.9231+/-2.17651 h(-1), respectively. Further, the rate parameter for the cleavage and efflux of ALA (k1) and the rate parameter for the evasion of PpIX from the tumor tissues after PDT (kt) were also estimated by fitting the experimental data to the developed mathematical model. The statistical significance of the estimated parameters was determined using Student's t-test. The experimental results and the rate parameters obtained using the proposed compartment model suggest that in addition to the earlier reported reasons, the invasion or diffusion of PpIX from the surrounding tissues to the tumor tissues after photoirradiation might also contribute to the reappearance of PpIX after PDT.  相似文献

Polycrystalline samples of La2MMnO6 (M = Co and Mg) were prepared by a combined gel‐combustion and high temperature reaction method. The samples were annealed in different oxygen partial pressure (pO2) and characterized by powder XRD, SQUID magnetometry, ac impedance spectroscopy, and electron paramagnetic resonance techniques. Monoclinic (P21/n) and rhombohedral (R$\bar{3}$ ) lattices were observed for La2CoMnO6 and La2MgMnO6, respectively. On annealing in inert atmosphere, La2MgMnO6 partially converted to monoclinic La2CoMnO6 type structure, whereas no structural change was observed in La2CoMnO6. Dielectric studies of La2CoMnO6 indicated relaxor like behavior with polaronic conduction, which systematically decreased with the increase in pO2 of the annealing atmosphere. Magnetic studies indicated multiple ferromagnetic phase transitions in La2CoMnO6 and a spin‐glass like phase transition in La2MgMnO6. The fraction of ferromagnetic phases of La2CoMnO6 was significantly dependent on the annealing environments. The variations of magnetic and dielectric properties of samples were related to the fluctuation of oxidation state of transition metal ions and oxygen vacancies in the samples.  相似文献

To increase the biocompatibility of nickel–titanium (Ni–Ti) alloy substrates, oxygen ions have been implanted by the plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII–O) technique at low temperature without affecting the substrate properties. The implanted Ni–Ti surface is characterized for microhardness and composition. Energy‐dispersive spectroscopy and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy investigations show the replacement of native oxide on the alloy by a compact oxide during the implantation process. The corrosion behaviors of untreated substrate and PIII–O samples are investigated using potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy in simulated body fluid (Hanks' solution). Polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy studies reveal nearly ideal capacitor behavior with better passivation characteristics for the oxygen‐implanted substrate. Sliding wear studies reveal lower friction of coefficient for the implanted layers as compared with the substrate. The bare and surface modified Ni–Ti alloy samples are evaluated for biocompatibility using osteoblast‐like cells (MG‐63). Cellular behavior in terms of cell morphology along with the viability and proliferations is evaluated by using scanning electron microscopy and in vitro cell culture assay, respectively. The results clearly show that oxygen implantation by PIII–O provides a better compatible surface for cell attachment and growth. The modified surface exhibits a higher percentage of cell viability demonstrating the enhanced biocompatibility of the oxygen‐implanted surface compared with bare Ni–Ti alloy. Covalent fixed multicyclic polystyrene conformers were synthesized from inconvertible polystyrene conformers based on ptert‐butylthiacalix[4]arene by azidation and subsequent click coupling. Selective 1D NOESY analyses confirmed that the spatial structures of star polystyrene precursors and multicyclic polystyrenes were preserved during the azidation and click coupling processes. The conformation of star polymers affected degree of decrease in the hydrodynamic volume after cyclization but had little effect on glass transition behavior. Copper sulphide clusters were prepared in Langmuir-Blodgett films of copper complexes of amphiphilic Schiff bases-3,4-dimethoxy-N-benzylidene hexadeylamine (I) and 3,4-dimethoxy-N-benzylidene-4’-(hexadecylamino) benzylamine (II) The clusters obtained were analysed using UV-Vis spectroscopy and optical microscopy. Brewster angle microscopic studies on monolayers ofI andII at air/water interface showed formation of needle-like domains which seem to cluster faster inI than inII. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies also showed fairly uniform sized clusters inII whereas in the case ofI they seem to show varying sizes.
