N4-Benzoylspermidine from Oncinotis tenuiloba: Analytical differentiation of the three isomeric N-benzoylspermidines

During the examination of extracts from Oncinotis tenuiloba STAPF a new polyamine, N⁴-benzoylsperimidine ( 8 ), was isolated. For unambiguous structure elucidation, it was transformed into the diacetyl derivative 13 , and the three possible N-benzoyl-substituted isomers of spermidine 5, 8 , and 11 together with their peracetylated derivatives 12–14 , respectively, were synthesized and identified.     

Determination of the atomic charge on sodium in sodium salts by numerical integration — a theoretical investigation

The electron density difference in a NaSCN crystal is set up from the ab initio densities of Na⁺ and SCN^? ions and compared to the experimental counterpart based on X-ray diffraction measurements. Numerical integration over the electron density difference is executed around the Na⁺ ion. The atomic charge (+0.20e) derived in this way is in good agreement with the analogous experimental charge (+0.27e) The low experimental value cannot therefore be taken as an indication for a predominantly non-ionic structure of NaSCN and similar sodium salts

Amidines as Intermediates in Transamidation Reactions By loss of water in the presence of p-toluenesulfonic acid/xylole N-aminoalkyllactames form bicyclic amidines. The corresponding N-alkylaminoalkyl-lactames' react to bicyclic amidinium salts or to transamidated products, ring-enlarged by the N-alkylamino residue, respectively (s. Scheme 1). The bicyclic amidines and amidinium salts are partially hydrolyzed by KOH/H₂O to lactames (s. Scheme 2). Which of the two possible isomeric lactames are formed is discussed.     

Synthesis of Oncinotin-11-one,a Macrocyclic Polyamine Alkaloid from Oncinotis tenuiloba

This paper presents a short synthesis of oncinotin-11-one ( 11 ), a minor alkaloid of Oncinotis tenuiloba (Apocynaceae). Based on a disconnection approach, the spermidine portion of the key intermediate 6 was constructed consecutively by simple N-alkylations starting from ethyl piperidine-2-carboxylate ( 1 ). Treatment of 6 with in situ lithiated 2-[(10-bromodecyl)oxy]tetrahydropyran resulted in the formation of the keto moiety under simultanous deprotection of the lactam N-atom to give the amino ketone 7 in 71% yield. Cleavage of the tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl(Thp) portion and Jones oxidation of the resulting alcohol 8 gave the amino acid 9 which was cyclized. Final N-debenzylation of 10 provided the natural alkaloid 11 . Only two protective groups were needed in this synthesis. The reaction of N-alkyl-lactams with organometallic reagents is discussed.     

Stochastic linear maps and transition probability

Some aspects of the transition probability P(, ) between states , on unital ^*-algebras are discussed. It is shown that P increases under the action of any stochastic linear map T, i.e., P(T, T)P(, ). Some properties of P are derived in starting from a recently-proved characterization of the quantity in question.

Atmospheric chemistry of diazomethane – an experimental and theoretical study

The kinetics of the O₃, OH and NO₃ radical reactions with diazomethane were studied in smog chamber experiments employing long-path FTIR and PTR-ToF-MS detection. The rate coefficients were determined to be k _CH2NN+O3?=?(3.2?±?0.4)?×?10^?17 and k _CH2NN+OH?=?(1.68?±?0.12)?×?10^?10 cm³ molecule^?1 s^?1 at 295?±?3?K and 1013?±?30 hPa, whereas the CH₂NN?+?NO₃ reaction was too fast to be determined in the static smog chamber experiments. Formaldehyde was the sole product observed in all the reactions. The experimental results are supported by CCSD(T*)-F12a/aug-cc-pVTZ//M062X/aug-cc-pVTZ calculations showing the reactions to proceed exclusively via addition to the carbon atom. The atmospheric fate of diazomethane is discussed.     

Fluorescence interference-contrast microscopy on oxidized silicon using a monomolecular dye layer

A silicon chip is covered by a monomolecular film of a fluorescence dye with silicon dioxide used as a spacer. The fluorescence depends on the distance of the dye from the silicon. The modulation of the intensity is described quantitatively by an optical theory which accounts for interference of the exciting light and of the emitted light. The effect is used to obtain a microscopic picture of the surface profile with a precision of a few Angströms. The perspectives for an application in wet systems such as neuron-silicon junctions and lipid membranes on silicon are pointed out.
