A new banana-shaped achiral molecule, 1,3-phenylene bis[4-(3-chloro-4-n-octyloxyphenyliminomethyl)benzoate] (PBCOB) has been synthesized, and its ferroelectric properties and homeotropic alignment investigated. The presence of a lateral chloro-substituent in the Schiff 's base moiety prevents the regular stacking of molecules and results in lowering the transition temperature and the degree of crystallinity of the switchable banana phase. Their smectic mesophases, including a switchable banana phase B7, were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray scattering and polarizing optical microscopy. Both the left- and right-handed helical domains are spontaneously formed upon cooling from the isotropic liquid to the switchable banana phase B7. By X-ray study, the smectic phases showed a layer spacing of 38.1 Å, compatible with the end-to-end distance of the molecule with a bent conformation. Significantly, the smectic B7 phase exhibited a periodicity of 292 Å that corresponds to a helical structure with periodicity about 7.5 times 38.1 Å. The spontaneous polarization for PBCOB is about 50 nCcm-2 and shows a temperature dependence. The ferroelectric lyomesophase of PBCOB showed a ferroelectric electro-optical switching range extending more than 50°C, switchable at room temperature. 相似文献

The cationization of poly(ethylene glycol)s, PEG 4000 and PEG 6000, under matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization conditions was studied by using different concentration ratios of the sodium ion, as the reference ion, and another alkali metal ion (Li(+), K(+), Rb(+), Cs(+)). A linear correlation was found between the intensity ratio of the sodiated PEGs and PEGs cationized with alkali metal ions versus the initial concentration ratio of sodium and alkali metal ions. The slopes of these straight lines are proposed as a novel selectivity ratio for the ionization process. The intensity distribution of the cationized PEGs was also investigated. It was found that the cationized oligomers follow Poisson statistics. The M(n) and M(w) values were also evaluated. An explanation for the observed effects is given. 相似文献

The spectral dependence of classical and small-angle dissymmetryZ in polydispersions containing spherical particles with lognormal distribution was theoretically studied. It has been found, for instance, for polystyrene latex that small-angle dissymmetry may be used for determining the distribution parameters in systems with particle medial radius 60–700 nm on the basis of measurements ofZ (10°/5°( at two wavelengths of radiation. The Staudinger ketene-imine cycloaddition reactions of cyclobrassinin phytoalexin analogues 2-aryl-4,9-dihydro-1,3-thiazino[6,5-b]indoles with chloroacetyl chloride as a ketene source were investigated under different conditions. Both β-lactam ring formation and the N-chloroacetylation of the indole moiety took place. The indole N-chloroacetyl group can be easily removed by treatment in the presence of silica gel in methanol at reflux temperature. The selective β-lactam formation can be also achieved in certain cases under milder Staudinger conditions. The treatment of azeto[2,1-b]thiazino[6,5-b]indole-1-one derivatives with sodium ethoxide in ethanol provided the novel thiazepino[7,6-b]indole ring systems in a one-step ring transformation. The complexity of the phenomena which arise during the heating of the various substances seldom can be described by a single reaction kinetic equation. As a consequence, sophisticated models with several unknown parameters have to be developed. The determination of the unknown parameters and the validation of the models requires the simultaneous evaluation of whole series of experiments. We can accept a model and its parameters if, and only if we get a reasonable fit to several experiments carried out at different experimental conditions. In the field of the thermal analysis the method of least squares alone seldom can select abest model or abest set of parameter values. Nevertheless, the careful evaluation of the experiments may help in the discerning between various chemical or physical assumptions by the quality of the corresponding fit between the experimental and the simulated date. Amorphous silicon–carbon alloy films in different compositions were prepared by pulsed laser deposition from two-component
targets containing pure silicon and carbon parts. The silicon–carbon ratio in the films was varied by adjusting the number
of laser shots on the constituent silicon and carbon targets. The composition, optical properties, thickness, and bonding
structure of the films were determined by backscattering spectrometry, spectroscopic ellipsometry, and X-ray photoelectron
spectroscopy, respectively. Backscattering spectrometry data were used to determine the deposition rate of silicon and carbon.
This enabled the calculation of the number of the shots onto each target to reach a predefined composition. As the film composition
changed from carbon to silicon, it was shown that the microscopic and macroscopic properties of the films also changed from

A highly efficient trifluoromethanesulfonic acid-mediated rearrangement of the benzoylaminomethylthio group of 3-benzoylaminomethylthioindoles (7a-e) to position 2 of the indole ring was developed. Thus, 2-benzoylaminomethylthioindoles (9a-e) were obtained in good yields and were involved as key intermediates in the synthesis of the new γ-carboline analogue ring system: 2,9-dihydro-4-aryl-1,3-thiazino[6,5-b]indole derivatives (11a-e).
