Terminal Ligand and Packing Effects on Slow Relaxation in an Isostructural Set of [Dy(H2dapp)X2]+ Single Molecule Magnets**

We report three structurally related single ion Dy compounds using the pentadentate ligand 2,6-bis((E)-1-(2-(pyridin-2-yl)-hydrazineylidene)ethyl)pyridine (H₂dapp) [Dy(H₂dapp)(NO₃)₂]NO₃ ( 1 ), [Dy(H₂dapp)(OAc)₂]Cl ( 2 ) and [Dy(H₂dapp)(NO₃)₂]Cl_0.92(NO₃)_0.08 ( 3 ). The (H₂dapp) occupies a helical twisted pentagonal equatorial arrangement with two anionic ligands in the axial positions. Further influence on the electronic and magnetic structure is provided by a closely associated counterion interacting with the central N−H group of the (H₂dapp). The slow relaxation of the magnetisation shows that the anionic acetates give the greatest slowing down of the magnetisation reversal. Further influence on the relaxation properties of compounds 1 and 2 is the presence of short nitrate-nitrate intermolecular ligand contact opening further lattice relaxation pathways.     

Enhancement of Spin Relaxation in an FeDy2Fe Coordination Cluster by Magnetic Fields

Two [FeLn₂Fe(μ₃‐OH)₂(teg)₂(N₃)₂(C₆H₅COO)₄] compounds (where Ln=Y^III and Dy^III; teg=triethylene glycol anion) have been synthesized and studied using SQUID and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The magnetic measurements on both compounds indicate dominant antiferromagnetic interactions between the metal centers. Analysis of the ⁵⁷Fe Mössbauer spectra complement the ac magnetic susceptibility measurements, which show how a static magnetic field can quench the slow relaxation of magnetization generated by the anisotropic Dy^III ions.     

Investigation of Growth Conditions for the Expansion of Porcine Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Microcarriers in Stirred Cultures

The extensive use of mesenchymal stem cells (MCS) in tissue engineering and cell therapy increases the necessity to improve their expansion. Among these, porcine MCS are valuable models for tissue engineering and are classically expanded in static T-flasks. In this work, different processes of stirred cultures were evaluated and compared. First, the effect of glucose, glutamine, antioxidant, and growth factors concentrations on porcine MSC expansion were analyzed in a suitable medium by performing kinetic studies. Results showed that a lower glucose concentration (5.5 mM) enabled to increase maximal cell concentration by 40 % compared with a higher one (25 mM), while addition of 2 to 6 mM of glutamine increased maximal cell concentration by more than 25 % compared with no glutamine supplementation. Moreover, supplementation with 1 μM thioctic acid increased maximal cell concentration by 40 % compared with no supplementation. Using this adapted medium, microcarriers cultures were performed and compared with T-flasks expansion. Porcine MSC were shown to be able to proliferate on the five types of microcarriers tested. Moreover, cultures on Cytodex 1, Cytopore 2, and Cultispher G exhibited a MSC growth rate more than 40 % higher compared with expansion in T-flasks, while MSC metabolism was similar.     

On the Froissart phenomenon in multivariate homogeneous Padé approximation

In univariate Padé approximation we learn from the Froissart phenomenon that Padé approximants to perturbed Taylor series exhibit almost cancelling pole–zero combinations that are unwanted. The location of these pole–zero doublets was recently characterized for rational functions by the so‐called Froissart polynomial. In this paper the occurrence of the Froissart phenomenon is explored for the first time in a multivariate setting. Several obvious questions arise. Which definition of Padé approximant is to be used? Which multivariate rational functions should be investigated? When considering univariate projections of these functions, our analysis confirms the univariate results obtained so far in [13], under the condition that the noise is added after projection. At the same time, it is apparent from section 4 that for the unprojected multivariate Froissart polynomial no conjecture can be formulated yet.

     

On the continuity of the multivariate Padé operator

Continuity of the univariate Padé operator was proved in [5,6]. We discuss the limitations of a multivariate generalization and prove a multivariate analogon of the continuity property.     

Etude structurale par spectrometrie infrarouge et raman des composes de coordination: bis(pyridine)- trichloro aluminium(III) et bis(pyridine)tribromo aluminium(III)

The compounds AlX₃-2Py (X = Cl or Br, Py = C₅H₅N or C₅D₅N) have been prepared by using a method based on an exchange of organic ligands. The infrared and Raman spectra, which have been recorded between 50 and 4000 cm^?1, give strong evidence for the existence of the anion AlCl₄^? (or AlBr₄^?) and show that the cation is AlX₂(Py)⁺₄. The comparison of the spectra with those of the compound NiX₂(Py)₄., and of the cations trans-AlX₂(THF)₄⁺ and cis-AlX₂(bipy)₂⁺ indicates that the cation AlX₂(Py)₄⁺ has the helical configuration (helical trans-octahedron) and allows the assignment of the vibrations.     

Spatiotemporal dynamics of wormlike micelles under shear

Velocity profiles in a wormlike micelle solution (cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide in D2O) are recorded using ultrasound every 2 s during a startup experiment into the shear-banding regime. The stress relaxation occurs over more than 6 h and corresponds to the very slow nucleation and growth of the high-shear band. Moreover, oscillations of the interface position with a period of about 50 s are observed during the growth process. Strong wall slip, metastable states, and transient nucleation of three-band flows are also reported and discussed in light of previous experiments and theoretical models.
