The behaviour of the Ce(IV)-catalyzed Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) system has been monitored at 20.0 degrees C in unstirred batch conditions in the absence and presence of different amounts of the non-ionic micelle-forming surfactants hexaethylene glycol monodecyl ether (C10E6) and hexaethylene glycol monotetradecyl ether (C14E6). The influence of the non-ionic surfactants on both the kinetics of the oxidation of malonic acid (MA) by Ce(IV) species and the behaviour of the BZ reaction in stirred batch conditions has also been studied over a wide surfactant concentration range. The experimental results have shown that, in unstirred batch conditions, at surfactant concentrations below the critical micelle concentration (c.m.c.) no significant change in the dynamics of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky system occurs. Beyond this critical concentration the presence of micelles forces the BZ system to undergo a chaos-->quasi-periodicity-->period-1 transition. Thus, the surfactant concentration has been considered as a bifurcation parameter for a Ruelle-Takens-Newhouse (RTN) scenario. Addition of increasing amounts of non-ionic surfactants has no significant effect on the kinetics of the reaction between MA and Ce(IV), but it influences the oscillatory parameters of the stirred BZ system. At surfactant concentrations below the c.m.c. all the oscillatory parameters are practically unaffected by the presence of surfactant, while beyond this critical value the induction period is the same as in aqueous solution but both the oscillation period and the duration of the rising portion of the oscillatory cycle decrease. In all cases, the experimental trends have been ascribed to the enhancement in the medium viscosity due to the presence of micelles.  相似文献

Analytical investigations using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), with Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and High Resolution Magic Angle Spinning Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (CP-MAS NMR), were carried out on white, yellow and red overpaintings on Apulian red-figured pottery fragments (4th century BC) from Altamura, Monte Sannace and Canosa - among the most relevant archaeological sites in ancient Peucetia - in order to outline technological features and define the nature of pigments. The results obtained allow us to highlight that Apulian objects have an external appearance which is very similar to Attic objects, but that they are nevertheless different, as they were made using locally available raw materials employing similar but not identical production technology. Perhaps familiarity, rather than real and proper continuity with the Attic pottery tradition, would explain the analytical results.Moreover, this paper proves that solid state nuclear magnetic spectroscopy (CP-MAS NMR) is a useful analytical tool for the examination of ancient pottery, which is also suitable for the identification of its firing temperature.  相似文献

‘Gnathia’ pottery samples, dating back to the mid‐fourth and third century BC, from the archaeological site of Egnazia (Fasano, Brindisi, Italy) have been characterised from the physical‐chemical, mineralogical and morphological points of view. Optical and scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray energy‐dispersive spectroscopy and X‐ray diffraction analyses have been carried out on the ceramic body, black gloss, white, yellow and red over‐paintings of fragments, with the aim of outlining technological features and defining the nature of coatings and decorations. Analytical results confirm from both a technological and morphological/decorative point of view the close relationship between ‘Gnathia’ pottery and red figured pottery, particularly with the Apulian red figured from which it takes its inspiration. At the same time the experimental results highlight shared characteristics and differences with both Attic and Apulian red figured productions. The biggest difference is in the utilisation of the ‘ingobbio rosso’ layer that covers the ceramic body. This does not seem to be based on aesthetic grounds, as in the case of Apulian red figured pottery, but on application of acquired production processes, since ‘Gnathia’ pottery was made in the same workshops as red figured pottery. In this paper we simulate a discussion with our students, in which we alternate specific mathematical issues (as the PERT (Program Evaluation and Review Technique) in 1.2, a discrete dynamical system in 2.1 and fractals in 2.2) that can be applied in situations such as the evolution of populations (2.1) or other well-known contexts such as the economic equilibrium theory or the ecological systems. The students are given occasions to deepen both the meaning and use of the studied model. We emphasize those cases where the model leads to analyses of behaviour depending on parameters whose values highlight stable states of dynamic systems (regions of peace) and regions where control over the system evolution is lost, and where the system passes from bifureations to chaos (regions of war).  相似文献

An experimental and theoretical study has been used to investigate gas diffusion and solubility in PEBAX®2533 block copolymer membrane. Molecular simulations using COMPASS force field have been successful in predicting the gas-transport properties of a PEBAX®2533 block copolymer and of a pure PTMO homopolymer. Gusev–Suter transition state theory (TST) and Monte Carlo methods are used for simulating the transport of five permanent gases (He, H2, N2, O2, CO2 and CH4).
