Dialgebra cohomology as a G-algebra

It is well known that the Hochschild cohomology of an associative algebra admits a G-algebra structure. In this paper we show that the dialgebra cohomology of an associative dialgebra has a similar structure, which is induced from a homotopy G-algebra structure on the dialgebra cochain complex .

On a differential-algebraic problem

The method of quasilinearization is a procedure for obtaining approximate solutions of differential equations. In this paper, this technique is applied to a differential-algebraic problem. Under some natural assumptions, monotone sequences converge quadratically to a unique solution of our problem.     

Silicon detector technology development in India for the participation in international experiments

A specific research and development program has been carried out by BARC in India to develop the technology for large area silicon strip detectors for application in nuclear and high energy physics experiments. These strip detectors will be used as pre-shower detector in the CMS experiment at LHC, CERN for π ⁰/λ rejection. The fabrication technology to produce silicon strip detectors with very good uniformity over a large area of ∼40 cm², low leakage currents of the order of 10 nA/cm² per strip and high breakdown voltage of >500 V has been developed by BARC. The production of detectors is already under way to deliver 1000 detector modules for the CMS and 90% production is completed. In this paper, research and development work carried out to develop the detector fabrication technology is briefly described. The performance of the silicon strip detectors produced in India is presented. The present status of the detector technology is discussed.      

Maximum principles for a fourth order equation from thin plate theory

This paper focuses on a nonlinear equation from thin plate theory of the form Δ(D(x)Δw)−(1−ν)[D,w]+c(x)f(w)=0. We obtain maximum principles for certain functions defined on the solution of this equation using P-functions or auxiliary functions of the types used by Payne [L.E. Payne, Some remarks on maximum principles, J. Anal. Math. 30 (1976) 421-433] and Schaefer [P.W. Schaefer, Solution, gradient, and laplacian bounds in some nonlinear fourth order elliptic equations, SIAM J. Math. Anal. 18 (1987) 430-434].     

A practical synthesis of (+)-cocaine

(+)-Cocaine has been prepared from commercially available 3-tropinone in four steps. Synthetic procedures and experimental details are provided.     

Absolute and relative cut-off in adaptive approximation by wavelets

Given the wavelet expansion of a function v, a non-linear adaptive approximation of v is obtained by neglecting those coefficients whose size drops below a certain threshold. We propose several ways to define the threshold: all are based on the characterization of the local regularity of v (in a Sobolev or Besov scale) in terms of summability of properly defined subsets of its coefficients. A-priori estimates of the approximation error are derived. For the Haar system the asymptotic behavior of both the approximation error and the number of survived coefficients is thoroughly investigated for a class of functions having Hölder-type singularities.     

Development of PE/PCL Bilayer Films Modified with Casein and Aluminum Oxide

The studied samples were prepared from polyethylene (PE) polymer which was coated with modified polycaprolactone (PCL) film in order to obtain bilayer films. Thin PCL film was modified with casein/aluminum oxide compound to enhance vapor permeability as well as mechanical and thermal properties of PE/PCL films. Casein/aluminum oxide modifiers were used in order to achieve some functional properties of polymer film that can be used in various applications, e.g., reduction of water vapor permeability (WVTR) and good mechanical and thermal properties. Significant improvement was observed in mechanical properties, especially in tensile strength as well as in water vapor values. Samples prepared with aluminum oxide particles indicated significantly lower values up to 60%, and samples that were prepared with casein and 5% Al₂O₃ showed the lowest WVTR value.
