Palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of coumarin derivatives: An overview

Coumarins are omnipresent in several plants and exhibit a plethora of pharmacological properties, making them an important scaffold in organic synthesis. Naturally, the chemistry of this motif has attracted ever-increasing attention, among which palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions are the most prevalent one. Numerous useful, easy, and concise syntheses and reactions have been achieved using palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions. This review focuses on recent advances in palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions such as Suzuki, Heck, Stille, Sonogoshira etc. reactions of coumarin derivatives and covers the literature from 2001 to 2020.     

Determination of 90Sr in environmental samples using solid phase extraction chromatography

The p-tert-butyl calix[4]arene thiophenol derivative was successfully synthesized with reflux condition and was characterized by FT-IR and ¹H-NMR. This work mainly adopted the method of controlling variables. The results showed that the optimum pH value, temperature and extraction time were respectively 4.5, 25 °C and 90 min. By calculating the data of the enthalpy change and gibbs free energy, indicating that the process of reaction was an exothermic and spontaneous process, and it demonstrated a close agreement with pseudo-second-order kinetic model. It is also found that the coexisting cations on the extraction of uranium had greater influence.

     

Synthetic, spectral and catalytic activity studies of ruthenium bipyridine and terpyridine complexes: Implications in the mechanism of the ruthenium(pyridine-2,6-bisoxazoline)(pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate)-catalyzed asymmetric epoxidation of olefins utilizing H2O2

Various Ru(L₁)(L₂) (1) complexes (L₁ = 2,2′-bipyridines, 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridines, 6-(4S)-4-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-oxazol-2-yl-2,2′-bipyridinyl or 2,2′-bipyridinyl-6-carboxylate; L₂ = pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate, pyridine-2-carboxylate or 2,2′-bipyridinyl-6-carboxylate) have been synthesized (or in situ generated) and tested on epoxidation of olefins utilizing 30% aqueous H₂O₂. The complexes containing pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate show extraordinarily high catalytic activity. Based on the stereoselective performance of chiral ruthenium complexes containing non-racemic 2,2′-bipyridines including 6-[(4S)-4-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-oxazol-2-yl]-[2,2′]bipyridinyl new insights on the reaction intermediates and reaction pathway of the ruthenium-catalyzed enantioselective epoxidation are proposed. In addition, a simplified protocol for epoxidation of olefins using urea hydrogen peroxide complex as oxidizing agent has been developed.     

The first preparation of the α-iodo-β,β-difluorovinylzinc reagent (CF2CIZnCl) and a high-yield one-pot synthesis of α-iodo-β,β-difluorostyrenes

The α-iodo-β,β-difluorovinylzinc reagent (CF₂CIZnCl) was synthesized in >87% yield via room-temperature metallation of the commercially available CF₃CH₂I with LDA in the presence of ZnCl₂. This novel zinc reagent upon palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling with aryl iodides produced α-iodo-β,β-trifluorostyrenes (ArCICF₂) in 62-80% isolated yield.     

Room temperature preparation of trifluoroethenylzinc reagent by metalation of the readily available halocarbon HFC-134a and an efficient, economically viable synthesis of 1,2,2-trifluorostyrenes

Trifluoroethenylzinc reagent [CF(2)=CFZnX] was generated from the readily available halocarbon HFC-134a by an in situ metalation-transmetalation procedure at temperatures near to room temperature (15-20 degrees C). By systematic standardization of the metalation experiments by manipulation of solvent, cosolvent, temperature, zinc salt, and the base, the trifluoroethenylzinc reagent was produced in 73% yield at 20 degrees C in THF medium. The palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of the trifluoroethenylzinc reagent with various aryl iodides was carried out under mild reaction conditions to produce 1,2,2-trifluorostyrenes in 59-86% isolated yields. The stability of the intermediate trifluoroethenyllithium reagent was compared at different temperatures and solvent systems. Experimental evidence for the mono-anion from HFC-134a (CF(3)CHF(-)) was obtained by the trapping of the mono-anion with zinc halide in THF/TMEDA medium. The structure and complexation of both the mono- and bis-trifluoroethenylzinc reagents with TMEDA and other ligands are discussed.     

Ultrasound irradiation in heterocycle synthesis: An overview

The synthesis of heterocyclic compounds has been a hot topic for several decades. Synthetic organic chemists are always in search of new methodologies which are greener for the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. The ultrasound-assisted reactions have contributed much to this field. This review focuses on the impact of sonochemistry in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds and covers the literature from 2009 to 2020.     

Recent developments in the metal catalysed cross-coupling reactions for the synthesis of the enone system of chalcones

For the last two decades, chalcones and their derivatives have attracted special interest among researchers due to their pharmaceutical properties. Numerous research works have been still going on to improve the methodologies of chalcone synthesis. Chalcone has displayed a remarkable curative efficiency to cure numerous diseases and it continues to show promise for new drug investigations. This review highlights the metal catalysed cross-coupling reactions for the synthesis of chalcone and its derivatives from 2009 to 2020.     

Highly stereoselective palladium-catalyzed Heck coupling of 5-iodouridine-5′-triphosphates with allylamine: a new efficient method for the synthesis of (E)-5-aminoallyl-uridine-5′-triphosphates

The palladium-catalyzed Heck coupling of 5-iodouridine-5′-triphosphates with allylamine is described. The reaction is highly stereoselective that results in high purity of (E)-5-aminoallyl-uridine-5′-triphosphate with good yields.     

Natural radioactivity studies of Bidar soil samples using gamma spectrometry

The activity of the terrestrial primordial radionuclides ²²⁶Ra, ²³²Th and ⁴⁰K are measured for Bidar soil samples. The collected soil samples are analyzed using HPGe detector based on high resolution gamma spectrometric system. The activity of the three radionuclides ²²⁶Ra, ²³²Th and ⁴⁰K were found to be in the range of BDL–47.68, 7.65–59.08 and BDL–260.65 Bq kg^?1 respectively. The mean gamma absorbed dose rate in air above 1 m from ground is estimated to be 34.47 nGy h^?1. Annual effective dose equivalent and the radium equivalent activity were within the limits in the present study and it is found that the activity of the radionuclides are comparable with the worldwide literature values. Also the external hazard indices for the soil samples of Bidar district were within the limit of unity.
