We investigated how the duration of short laser pulses evolves in a dispersive material, using rms widths and a propagation law based on a pulse quality factor. Experiments were carried out with femtosecond pulses (10 to 25fs at the temporal waist) propagating in bulk fused silica. Excellent agreement was found between theory and experiment. This approach does not require complete characterization of laser pulses and eliminates the need for any assumption regarding the interpretation of autocorrelation traces. The method is of general validity, and it can be applied to pulses of arbitrary shape.  相似文献

On the basis of a next-to-leading-order calculation in chiral perturbation theory, the first complete analysis of isospin breaking for direct CP violation in K0-->2 pi decays is performed. We find a destructive interference between three different sources of isospin violation in the CP violation parameter epsilon'. Within the uncertainties of large-N(c) estimates for the low-energy constants, the isospin violating correction for epsilon' is below 15%.  相似文献

This paper presents the surrogate model based algorithm SO-I for solving purely integer optimization problems that have computationally expensive black-box objective functions and that may have computationally expensive constraints. The algorithm was developed for solving global optimization problems, meaning that the relaxed optimization problems have many local optima. However, the method is also shown to perform well on many local optimization problems, and problems with linear objective functions. The performance of SO-I, a genetic algorithm, Nonsmooth Optimization by Mesh Adaptive Direct Search (NOMAD), SO-MI (Müller et al. in Comput Oper Res 40(5):1383–1400, 2013), variable neighborhood search, and a version of SO-I that only uses a local search has been compared on 17 test problems from the literature, and on eight realizations of two application problems. One application problem relates to hydropower generation, and the other one to throughput maximization. The numerical results show that SO-I finds good solutions most efficiently. Moreover, as opposed to SO-MI, SO-I is able to find feasible points by employing a first optimization phase that aims at minimizing a constraint violation function. A feasible user-supplied point is not necessary.  相似文献

The structure of a starlike molecule (SLM) fluid with four arms of different length is studied by applying the associative Percus–Yevick integral equation (IE) theory and canonical Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. In the IE study the SLM fluid is modelled by a fluid of hard spheres with four associative sites on each sphere while the MC has been performed for a freely-joined tangent hard sphere fluid. The total radial distribution functions have been calculated in both approaches for different volume fraction regimes and different arm lengths. It is shown that the associative IE theory predicts the structure of SLM fluid best for relatively long arms and at high densities. Additionally, the dependence of the SLM centre–centre correlations on the functionality and fluid particle density has been analysed using the MC results.  相似文献

We study the mass, width and couplings of the lightest resonance multiplet with I (J PC ) = 1 (1-) quantum numbers. Effective field theories based on chiral symmetry are employed in order to describe the form factor associated with the two pseudoscalar matrix element of the QCD vector current. The bare poles of the intermediate resonances are regularized through a Dyson-Schwinger-like summation. We explore the role of the resonance width in physical observables and make a coupled-channel analysis of the final-state interactions. This provides many interesting properties, like the pole mass MeV. At energies GeV, a second 1 (1-) resonance multiplet is considered in order to describe the data in a more consistent way. From the phenomenologically extracted resonance couplings, we obtain the chiral coupling , at MeV, and show how the running with the scale μ affects the resonance parameters. A 1/N C counting is adopted in this work and the consistency of the large-NC expansion is tested. Finally, we make an estimation of the contribution from diagrams with resonances in crossed channels. It has recently been suggested that a laser cavity formed by a pair of gratings would show anomalously large longitudinal mode spacing which should favor single-longitudinal-mode emission. An experimental verification of that prediction with a TEA-CO2 laser is presented. The repeatedly negative results obtained under various conditions are given a tentative explanation, based on the well-known analysis of a closely related problem: the grating-pair pulse compression scheme.  相似文献

The cross section for production of neutrino pairs by high energy muons in the nuclear Coulomb field is calculated analytically. For right (left)-handedμ ?(μ +) helicity, the process is only mediated by neutral currents, which opens the possibility to look for the number of generations. Assuming three generations, the calculated cross section turns out to be 1.1×10?40 cm2 for56Fe and 6.6×10?40cm2 for208Pb at an incident muon energy of 300 GeV. Some comments about the equivalent photon approximation are made.  相似文献

We present a new calculation of the B parameter which governs the short distance contribution to the K0-K0 off-diagonal mass matrix. The calculation combines the information provided by the effective chiral lagrangian realization of QCD at long distances with the perturbative behaviour of QCD at short distances via the local duality approach. The result exhibits an explicit renormalization scale dependence which exactly cancels with the corresponding dependence in the Wilson coefficient.  相似文献
