Quadruple-period ordering in GaAsSb alloys is studied both theoretically and experimentally. A growth model is proposed to account for the observed three-dimensional (3D) ordered structure. The model is qualitatively different from the widely accepted surface reconstruction and dimerization-induced ordering models that strictly speaking explain only the in-plane 2D patterns. Here, we show that the already ordered substrate will affect the reconstruction of the growth front with respect to the substrate to ensure a correct stacking of the individual 2D ordered layers into the observed 3D lattice.  相似文献

Ultrasonic absorption in polymer gel dosimeters was investigated. An ultrasonic interferometer was used to study the frequency (f) dependence of the absorption coefficient (alpha) in a polyacrylamide gel dosimeter (PAG) in the frequency range 5-20 MHz. The frequency dependence of ultrasonic absorption deviated from that of an ideal viscous fluid. The presence of relaxation mechanisms was evidenced by the frequency dependence of alpha/f(2) and the dispersion in ultrasonic velocity. It was concluded that absorption in polymer gel dosimeters is due to a number of relaxation processes which may include polymer-solvent interactions as well as relaxation due to motion of polymer side groups.The dependence of ultrasonic absorption on absorbed dose and formulation was also investigated in polymer gel dosimeters as a function of pH and chemical composition. Changes in dosimeter pH and chemical composition resulted in a variation in ultrasonic dose response curves. The observed dependence on pH was considered to be due to pH induced modifications in the radiation yield while changes in chemical composition resulted in differences in polymerisation kinetics.  相似文献

Free-standing frequency-selective surfaces consisting of approximately 10-microm-thick copper films with cross-aperture arrays are found to be tunable toward lower frequencies by means of wet chemical etching. Center frequencies were tuned from 1.57 to 1.53 THz while maintaining high transmittance. Wet etching also adjusts bandwidth, peak transmittance, and sidelobe transmittance. The advantage of the wet-etch technique is demonstrated by employment of these devices as bandpass filters for difluoromethane-based terahertz lasers. Adjustment in aperture dimensions because of etching results in suppression of a competing laser line (133.93 microm) by 15 dB while maintaining high transmittance at the operating wavelength of 192.06 microm.  相似文献

We describe a novel technique for contrast enhancement in optical coherence tomography (OCT) that makes possible molecular-specific imaging for what is believed to be the first time. A pump-probe technique is employed in which a pulsed pump laser is tuned to ground-state absorption in a molecule of interest. The location of the target molecule population is derived from the resulting transient absorption of OCT sample-arm light acting as probe light. A signal processing technique for three-dimensional localization of the transient absorption signal is described, and preliminary results exhibiting OCT contrast from methylene blue dye in multilayer and scattering phantoms are presented.  相似文献

We measure two-dimensional profiles of collimated microwave beams transmitted through composite wire and split-ring resonator prisms. Prior experiments suggest these structures have a negative index of refraction, though these claims have been questioned. Our 2D measurements demonstrate that transmission obeys Snell's law with a negative index, confirming the refractive nature of this signal and refuting alternatives posed in the criticisms. In addition, we present preliminary evidence that a flat rectangular slab of this material can focus power from a point source.  相似文献

Beta-sialons are ceramic phases occurring in the SiO(2)-Si(3)N(4)-AlN-Al(2)O(3) system. A series of samples with differing compositions has been investigated by magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). Although the constituent nitrogen nuclei occupy positions of low symmetry in the beta-sialon structure, 14N NMR spectra could be recorded for the samples examined. The origin of the 14N signal could be traced to the presence of an aluminium nitride (AlN) impurity phase with the help of 27Al NMR and XRD results. Similarly, the existence of Al(2)O(3) grains could be readily detected for a number of samples. Thus, the combination of 14N and 27Al NMR is shown to be an especially effective tool in identifying and characterizing impurity phases in sialon ceramics, complementing the results obtained from standard XRD analysis.  相似文献

Contrast bubble destruction is important in several new diagnostic and therapeutic applications. The pressure threshold of destruction is determined by the shell material, while the propensity for of the bubbles to undergo inertial cavitation (IC) depends both on the gas and shell properties of the ultrasound contrast agent (UCA). The ultrasonic fragmentation thresholds of three specific UCAs (Optison, Sonazoid, and biSpheres), each with different shell and gas properties, were determined under various acoustic conditions. The acoustic emissions generated by the agents, or their derivatives, characteristic of IC after fragmentation, was also compared, using cumulated broadband-noise emissions (IC "dose"). Albumin-shelled Optison and surfactant-shelled Sonazoid had low fragmentation thresholds (mean = 0.13 and 0.15 MPa at 1.1 MHz, 0.48 and 0.58 MPa at 3.5 MHz, respectively), while polymer-shelled biSpheres had a significant higher threshold (mean = 0.19 and 0.23 MPa at 1.1 MHz, 0.73 and 0.96 MPa for thin- and thick-shell biSpheres at 3.5 MHz, respectively, p<0.01). At comparable initial concentrations, surfactant-shelled Sonazoid produced a much larger IC dose after shell destruction than did either biSpheres or Optison (p<0.01). Thick-shelled biSpheres had the highest fragmentation threshold and produced the lowest IC dose. More than two and five acoustic cycles, respectively, were necessary for the thin- and thick-shell biSpheres to reach a steady-state fragmentation threshold.  相似文献

 Some of the consequences that follow from the C 2 condition of Zhu are analysed. In particular it is shown that every conformal field theory satisfying the C 2 condition has only finitely many n-point functions, and this result is used to prove a version of a conjecture of Nahm, namely that every representation of such a conformal field theory is quasirational. We also show that every such vertex operator algebra is a finite W-algebra, and we give a direct proof of the convergence of its characters as well as the finiteness of the fusion rules. Particles moving along curved trajectories will diffuse if the curvature fluctuates sufficiently in either magnitude or orientation. We consider particles moving at a constant speed with either a fixed or a Gaussian distributed magnitude of curvature. At small speeds the diffusivity is independent of the speed. At larger particle speeds, the diffusivity depends on the speed through a novel exponent. We apply our results to intracellular transport of vesicles. In sharp contrast to thermal diffusion, the effective diffusivity increases with vesicle size and so may provide an effective means of intracellular transport.  相似文献

New and rapid syntheses of the enantiomeric intracellular signalling molecules d-myo-inositol 1,4,5,6-tetrakisphosphate (1 a) and D-myo-inositol 3,4,5,6-tetrakisphosphate (1 b) are described. The synthetic strategy employs the novel butane-2,3-diacetal-protected (BDA-protected) myo-inositol (+/-)-3 ab, directly accessible from myo-inositol on a large scale, and an optical resolution with diastereoisomeric (R)-(-)-acetylmandelate esters. The X-ray crystal structure of (+/-)-4, an unusual side product of acid-catalysed reaction of myo-inositol with butanedione is also presented, and the absolute configurations of 1 a and 1 b are definitively assigned by conversion of key precursors into (+)-bornesitol and L-iditol hexaacetate, respectively. Biological activity of synthetic 1 b was confirmed in comparison with the natural polyphosphate.  相似文献
