Poly(vinylpyrrolidone)‐stabilized silver nanoparticles deposited onto strained‐silicon layers grown on graded Si1−xGex virtual substrates are utilized for selective amplification of the Si–Si vibration mode of strained silicon via surface‐enhanced Raman scattering spectroscopy. This solution‐based technique allows rapid, highly sensitive and accurate characterization of strained silicon whose Raman signal would usually be overshadowed by the underlying bulk SiGe Raman spectra. The analysis was performed on strained silicon samples of thickness 9, 17.5 and 42 nm using a 488 nm Ar+ micro‐Raman excitation source. The near monolayer depth resolution of medium energy ion scattering is utilized to develop a probe of the depth dependent composition of bimetallic nanoparticles supported on planar oxide supports. The approach fits spectra of scattered ion intensity versus ion energy at well-defined scattering angles taking into account the asymmetric line shape in such spectra and also the depth dependent loss processes encountered by incident ions as they pass through the bimetallic particles.  相似文献

We report the demonstration of electro-optical tunable time delay and advance using a silicon feedback-microring resonator integrated with p-i-n diodes. By controlling the feedback and round-trip phase shifts through the carrier-injection-based free-carrier dispersion effect, we obtain a large dynamic time tuning range (-88 ps to 110 ps) upon dc bias voltage change in the range of few tens of millivolts at a given resonance wavelength. We also demonstrate tunable time delay and advance at different resonance wavelengths within 0.76 nm wavelength range.  相似文献

We demonstrate a method to count small numbers of atoms held in a deep, microscopic optical dipole trap by collecting fluorescence from atoms exposed to a standing wave of light that is blue detuned from resonance. While scattering photons, the atoms are cooled by a Sisyphus mechanism that results from the spatial variation in light intensity. The use of a small blue detuning limits the losses due to light-assisted collisions, thereby making the method suitable for counting several atoms in a microscopic volume.  相似文献

The reference scan method is a simple yet powerful method for measuring spatial drift of the x-ray spot during a low-cone-angle μ-CT experiment. As long as the drift is smooth, and occurring on a time scale that is long compared to the acquisition time of each projection, this method provides a way to compensate for the drift by applying 2D in-plane translations to the radiographs. Here we show that this compensation may be extended to the regime of high-magnification, high-cone-angle CT experiments where source drift perpendicular to the detector plane can cause significant magnification changes throughout the acquisition.  相似文献

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a powerful tool for examining kidney function, including organ blood flow and oxygen bioavailability. We have used contrast enhanced perfusion and blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD) MRI to assess kidney transplants with normal function, acute tubular necrosis (ATN) and acute rejection. BOLD and MR-perfusion imaging were performed on 17 subjects with recently transplanted kidneys. There was a significant difference between medullary R2? values in the group with acute rejection (R2?=16.2/s) compared to allografts with ATN (R2?=19.8/s; P=.047) and normal-functioning allografts (R2?=24.3/s;P=.0003). There was a significant difference between medullary perfusion measurements in the group with acute rejection (124.4±41.1 ml/100 g per minute) compared to those in patients with ATN (246.9±123.5 ml/100 g per minute; P=.02) and normal-functioning allografts (220.8±95.8 ml/100 g per minute; P=.02). This study highlights the utility of combining perfusion and BOLD MRI to assess renal function. We have demonstrated a decrease in medullary R2? (decrease deoxyhemoglobin) on BOLD MRI and a decrease in medullary blood flow by MR perfusion imaging in those allografts with acute rejection, which indicates an increase in medullary oxygen bioavailability in allografts with rejection, despite a decrease in blood flow.  相似文献

Using a multi-scaled, chaotic flow known as the KS model of turbulence [J.C.H. Fung, J.C.R. Hunt, A. Malik, R.J. Perkins, Kinematic simulation of homogeneous turbulence by unsteady random fourier modes, J. Fluid Mech. 236 (1992) 281-318], we investigate the dependence of Lyapunov exponents on various characteristics of the flow. We show that the KS model yields a power law relation between the Reynolds number and the maximum Lyapunov exponent, which is similar to that for a turbulent flow with the same energy spectrum. Our results show that the Lyapunov exponents are sensitive to the advection of small eddies by large eddies, which can be explained by considering the Lagrangian correlation time of the smallest scales. We also relate the number of stagnation points within a flow to the maximum Lyapunov exponent, and suggest a linear dependence between the two characteristics.  相似文献

Ultrasonic absorption in polymer gel dosimeters was investigated. An ultrasonic interferometer was used to study the frequency (f) dependence of the absorption coefficient (alpha) in a polyacrylamide gel dosimeter (PAG) in the frequency range 5-20 MHz. The frequency dependence of ultrasonic absorption deviated from that of an ideal viscous fluid. The presence of relaxation mechanisms was evidenced by the frequency dependence of alpha/f(2) and the dispersion in ultrasonic velocity. It was concluded that absorption in polymer gel dosimeters is due to a number of relaxation processes which may include polymer-solvent interactions as well as relaxation due to motion of polymer side groups.The dependence of ultrasonic absorption on absorbed dose and formulation was also investigated in polymer gel dosimeters as a function of pH and chemical composition. Changes in dosimeter pH and chemical composition resulted in a variation in ultrasonic dose response curves. The observed dependence on pH was considered to be due to pH induced modifications in the radiation yield while changes in chemical composition resulted in differences in polymerisation kinetics.  相似文献
