Abstract A strongly basic anion-exchange resin is used for the trace enrichment and automated sample handling of phenol, with subsequent determination by reversed-phase liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection. Because of the presence of high concentrations of ionic compounds in the water samples tested, phenol is first trapped on a relatively long precolumn filled with a highly hydrophobic packing material; during this step, (in) organic anions which are not retained, are flushed to waste. In the next step, phenol is desorbed from this column at high pH and sorbed in a small zone (“peak compression”) on a short precolumn containing the anion exchanger. In the analysis of tap and river water samples, the detection limit was found to be 10ppt (1:1011). 相似文献

Abstract The possibility was investigated to apply a commercially available automatic head-space sampler in trace analysis of ethylene dibromide (EDB, 1,2-dibromoethane), in cereals. Samples of rice and wheat flour were thermostatted in closed vials at 70[ddot]C for 30min. The top gas was then automatically introduced into a gas chromatograph equipped with an electron capture detector. Quantitation was performed using external standards (untreated samples spiked with solutions of EDB in N,N′-dimethylacetamide). The relative standard deviation of the method was 3.4% for rice and 4.5% for wheat flour, at a residue level of 0.008 mg/kg. The detection limit was 0.001 mg/kg (the official EC residue tolerance is 0.01 mg/kg). Preliminary experiments with other fumigants were carried out as well. The headspace technique in question has the following advantages over other methods for determining EDB residues in cereals: 1. No sample pre-treatment like extraction, steam distillation, purge and trap etc.; 2. Automated sample handling; 3. “Clean” chromatograms. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe discovery of the oblique chiral (or, the twist-bend, NTB) nematic phase predicted for bent-core mesogens has engendered much interest due to its unique structure and physical properties, and the possibility of use in the next generation of fast electro-optic technology. Bimesogenic calamitic as well as bent-core mesogens are found to form the NTB phase. Here, we report direct measurements of the temperature dependence of the conical tilt and the evidence of volcano-like orientational distribution of molecules in the NTB phase. Optical and x-ray scattering investigations of two single-component calamitic bimesogens and their mixtures show that, while the Maier–Saupe orientational distribution function (ODF) is valid for the higher temperature nematic phase, a generalised expansion in terms of even Legendre functions is needed for the NTB phase. Temperature dependence of the ODFs and the order parameters 〈P2(cosβ)〉, 〈P4(cosβ)〉, and 〈P6(cosβ)〉 has been measured in both phases. The parameters 〈P2(cosβ)〉 and 〈P4(cosβ)〉 increase/decrease in the N/NTB phase with decreasing temperature, while 〈P6(cosβ)〉 remains vanishingly small for all samples. The value of 〈P4(cosβ)〉 becomes negative in the NTB phase confirming a conical distribution of molecules as they follow a helical trajectory keeping the local director tilted at an angle α wrt the macroscopic director. The heliconical tilt calculated from ODFs, exhibits a power law behaviour with temperature, vanishing at the transition to the N phase. 相似文献

A simple and sensitive analytical method based on ultraperformance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC‐MS/MS) has been developed for determination of moclobemide in human brain cell monolayer as an in vitro model of blood–brain barrier. Brucine was employed as the internal standard. Moclobemide and internal standard were extracted from cell supernatant by ethyl acetate after alkalinizing with sodium hydroxide. The UPLC separation was performed on an Acquity UPLCTM BEH C18 column (50 × 2.1 mm, 1.7 µm, Waters, USA) with a mobile phase consisting of methanol–water (29.5:70.5, v/v); the water in the mobile phase contained 0.05% ammonium acetate and 0.1% formic acid. Detection of the analytes was achieved using positive ion electrospray via multiple reaction monitoring mode. The mass transitions were m/z 269.16 → 182.01 for moclobemide and m/z 395.24 → 324.15 for brucine. The extraction recovery was 83.0–83.4% and the lower limit of quantitation (LLOQ) was 1.0 ng/mL for moclobemide. The method was validated from LLOQ to 1980 ng/mL with a coefficient of determination greater than 0.999. Intra‐ and inter‐day accuracies of the method at three concentrations ranged from 89.1 to 100.9% for moclobemide with precision of 1.1–9.6%. Abstract The compound 4-cyano-4′-(α,α,α-trifluoromethoxy)biphenyl (1OCBF3) has been synthesized. Unlike the fully protonated analogue, 4-cyano-4′-methoxybiphenyl (1OCB), it does not show a liquid crystalline phase on cooling from the melting point (51°C) to room temperature. The transition temperature to a monotropic nematic phase was obtained as approximately 0°C by determining the transition temperatures of mixtures with 1OCB. The structures, conformational properties and orientational ordering of both 1OCB and 1OCBF3 as solutes in a nematic solvent ZLI 1132 have been investigated via the 17 dipolar couplings obtained by analysing the proton and fluorine NMR spectra of these solutions. It is concluded that the major difference between the two molecules lies in the potential, V(φ2), governing rotation about the ring–oxygen bonds. In 1OCB the potential has the same form as in anisole, with a minimum when the C–O bond is in the plane of the attached ring (φ2 = 0°), and a maximum of about 15 kJ mol?1 when φ2 is 90°. In 1OCBF3 the barrier to rotation about the ring–O bond decreases substantially to being near zero. 相似文献

The Copaifera species (Leguminoseae) are popularly known as ‘copaíba’ or ‘copaíva’ and are grown in the states of Amazonas, Pará and Ceará in northern Brazil. The oleoresins obtained from these species have been extensively used owing to their pharmacological potential and their application in cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations. In the present study, the development and validation of a novel, rapid and efficient RP‐HPLC methodology for the analysis of the diterpene (?)‐copalic acid (CA), pointed out as the only chemical marker of the Copaifera genus, are described. The regression equation (Y = 26,707x ? 29,498) was obtained with good linearity (r2 = 0.9993) and the limits of quantification and detection were 9.182 and 3.032 µg/mL, respectively. The precision and the accuracy of the method were adequate (lower than 4%). Finally, the validation parameters evaluated were satisfactorily met, so the developed method represents a suitable tool for application in the quality control of such natural products. Further studies aiming to develop analytical methodologies for each Copaifera species using a more representative number of chemical markers should be performed. Different pyrometallurgical materials such as slags, refractory materials and thermally treated lead ores likely related to smelting and extractive processes and chronologically related to Punic and Roman periods (IV–III BC) have been found at Bocche di Sciria and Conca e Mosu in the Montevecchio mine basin (south western Sardinia, Italy), where archaeological findings and classical authors locate extractive metallurgy activities since pre-Roman times. By means of the combined use of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) combined with energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), selected-area X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and optical microscopy (OM), micro-chemical and micro-structural investigations have been carried out in order to identify the nature of the pyrometallurgical materials, to decipher the processes carried out there and their technological steps and to determine the technological level of competence reached by the ancient metallurgists. The results confirm that the findings can be associated with smelting and extractive processes carried out close to the metal ore deposits first for the argentiferous lead production and, then, for the silver recovery via a cupellation process. Finally, the results disclose the high level of technological competence of the ancient metallurgists able to carry out complex high-temperature processes to treat the argentiferous lead ores and to recover low amounts of silver via high-temperature lead-selective oxidation. 相似文献
