Bromine (20-40 ppm), chlorine (200-500 ppm), sulphur (0.2-3%) and phosphorus (300-1000 ppm) in peat have been determined by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRFS) combined with the standard-addition method. Chlorine, sulphur and phosphorus have also been determined by other methods and agreement between the results is good. Theoretical calculations based on the Sherman equation were made to validate the linearity of the standard-addition curves. A multi-element standard-addition technique has been tested with addition of all elements at the same time. The results for chlorine were high but after correction for the difference in attenuation coefficient between the sample and added compound the results agreed with those from single-element standard addition.  相似文献

In November 2002, the tanker Prestige sank west of Spain laden with about 77 000 tons of a heavy oil distillation residue that polluted beaches in Spain and France. The public was warned of its toxic properties, (falsely) said to be due to the sulfur. Sulfur is present in commercial crude oils to the extent of 0.1 – 4 %. It is derived from sulfate ions of sea water. Following reduction, it reacts with matter in sediments, ultimately leading to organic sulfur compounds. The removal of this sulfur is an important industrial process.  相似文献

A quasielastic neutron scattering study has been performed on a polymer gel electrolyte consisting of lithium perchlorate dissolved in ethylene carbonate/propylene carbonate and stabilized with poly(methyl methacrylate). The dynamics of the solvent, which is crucial for the ion conduction in this system, was probed using the hydrogen/deuterium contrast variation method with nondeuterated solvent and a deuterated polymer matrix. Two relaxation processes of the solvent were studied in the 10-400 microeV range at different temperatures. From analysis of the momentum transfer dependence of the processes we conclude that the faster process ( approximately 100 microeV) is related to rotational diffusion of the solvent and the slower process ( approximately 10 microeV) to translational diffusion of the solvent. The translational diffusion is found to be similar to the diffusion in the corresponding liquid electrolyte at short distances, but geometrically constrained by the polymer matrix at distances beyond approximately 5 A. The study indicates that the hindered diffusion of the solvent on a length scale of the polymer network interchain distance ( approximately 5-20 A) is sufficient to explain the reduced macroscopic diffusivity and ion conductivity of the gel electrolyte compared to the liquid electrolyte.  相似文献

The low-temperature limiting value of the Grüneisen parameter for low-frequency phonons and the density dependence of the thermal conductivity (Bridgman parameter) of low-density amorphous (LDA) ice, high-density amorphous (HDA) ice, hexagonal ice Ih, and cubic ice Ic were calculated from high-pressure sound velocity and thermal conductivity measurements, yielding negative values for all states except HDA ice. LDA ice is the first amorphous state to exhibit a negative Bridgman parameter, and negative Grüneisen parameters are relatively unusual. Since Ih, Ic, and LDA ice all transform to HDA upon pressurization at low temperatures and share the unusual feature of negative Grüneisen parameters, this seems to be a prerequisite for pressure induced amorphization. We estimate that the Grüneisen parameter increases at the ice Ih to XI transition, and may become positive in ice XI, which indicates that proton-ordered ice XI does not amorphize like ice Ih on pressurization.  相似文献

Several types of chiral hetero‐ and carbocyclic compounds have been synthesized by using the asymmetric hydrogenation of cyclic alkenes. N,P‐Ligated iridium catalysts reduced six‐membered cyclic alkenes with various substituents and heterofunctionality in good to excellent enantioselectivity, whereas the reduction of five‐membered cyclic alkenes was generally less selective, giving modest enantiomeric excesses. The stereoselectivity of the hydrogenation depended more strongly on the substrate structure for the five‐ rather than the six‐membered cyclic alkenes. The major enantiomer formed in the reduction of six‐membered alkenes could be predicted from a selectivity model and isomeric alkenes had complementary enantioselectivity, giving opposite optical isomers upon hydrogenation. The utility of the reaction was demonstrated by using it as a key step in the preparation of chiral 1,3‐cis‐cyclohexane carboxylates.  相似文献

Droplet microfluidics allows the isolation of single cells and reagents in monodisperse picoliter liquid capsules and manipulations at a throughput of thousands of droplets per second. These qualities allow many of the challenges in single‐cell analysis to be overcome. Monodispersity enables quantitative control of solute concentrations, while encapsulation in droplets provides an isolated compartment for the single cell and its immediate environment. The high throughput allows the processing and analysis of the tens of thousands to millions of cells that must be analyzed to accurately describe a heterogeneous cell population so as to find rare cell types or access sufficient biological space to find hits in a directed evolution experiment. The low volumes of the droplets make very large screens economically viable. This Review gives an overview of the current state of single‐cell analysis involving droplet microfluidics and offers examples where droplet microfluidics can further biological understanding.  相似文献

Typically, a significant fraction of phosphorus in soils is composed of organic phosphates, and this fraction thus plays an important role in the global phosphorus cycle. Here we have studied adsorption of monomethyl phosphate (MMP) to goethite (α-FeOOH) as a model system in order to better understand the mechanisms behind adsorption of organic phosphates to soil minerals, and how adsorption affects the stability of these molecules. The adsorption reactions and stability of MMP on goethite were studied at room temperature as a function of pH, time and total concentration of MMP by means of quantitative batch experiments, potentiometry and infrared spectroscopy. MMP was found to be stable at the water-goethite interface within the pH region 3-9 and over extended periods of time, as well as in solution. The infrared spectra indicated that MMP formed three predominating pH-dependent surface complexes on goethite, and that these interacted monodentately with surface Fe. The complexes differed in hydrogen bonding interactions via the auxiliary oxygens of the phosphate group. The presented surface complexation model was based on the collective spectroscopic and macroscopic results, using the Basic Stern approach to describe the interfacial region. The model consisted of three monodentate inner sphere surface complexes where the MMP complexes were stabilized by hydrogen bonding to a neighboring surface site. The three complexes, which had equal proton content and thus could be defined as surface isomers, were distinguished by the distribution of charge over the 0-plane and β-plane. In the high pH-range, MMP acted as a hydrogen bond acceptor whereas it was a hydrogen bond donor at low pH.  相似文献

Dielectric relaxation spectra of a metastable crystal phase formed on implosive and exothermic transformation of pressure-amorphized hexagonal ice have been measured in situ at 0.97 GPa pressure over a range of temperature. The metastable phase showed no relaxation peak at 130 K and 0.97 GPa. When heated at a fixed pressure of 0.97 GPa, it began to transform at approximately 145 K exothermally to a phase whose relaxation rate and equilibrium dielectric permittivity increased. A second, but slower exothermic transformation also occurred at approximately 175 K. After keeping at 213 K, the relaxation rate and equilibrium permittivity reached the known values of these two quantities for ice VI. Thus the metastable phase transformed to ice VI in two stages. It is conjectured that the intermediate phase in this transformation could be ice XII. The rate of transformation is not determined by the reorientational relaxation rate of water molecules in the ices.  相似文献

The thermal conductivity λ and heat capacity per unit volume ρcp of poly(isobutylene)s, one 2.8 in weight average molecular weight and one 85 kg mol−1 in viscosity average molecular weight (PIB-2800 and PIB-85000), have been measured in the temperature range 170–450 K at pressures up to 2 GPa using the transient hot-wire method. At 297 K and atmospheric pressure, λ = 0.115 W m−1 K−1 for PIB-2800 and λ = 0.120 W m−1 K−1 for PIB-85000. The bulk modulus BT has been measured in the temperature range 170–297 K up to 1 GPa. At atmospheric pressure, the room temperature bulk moduli BT are 2.0 GPa for PIB-2800 and 2.5 GPa for PIB-85000 with dBT/dp = 10 for both. These data were used to calculate the volume dependence of λ, At room temperature and atmospheric pressure (liquid phase) we find g = 3.4 for PIB-2800 and g = 3.9 for PIB-85000, but g depends strongly on temperature for both molecular weights. The difference in g between the glassy state and liquid phase is small and just outside the inaccuracy of g of about 8%. The best predictions for g are given by the theoretical model of Horrocks and McLaughlin. We have found that PIB exhibits two relaxations, where one is associated with the glass transition. The value for dTg/dp at atmospheric pressure (for the main glass transition) is about 0.21 K MPa−1 for both molecular weights. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
