Photochemical reactions of N-alkyl and N,N-dialkylimidazolidinetriones

N-Akyl and N,N-Dialkylimidazolidinetriones undergo intramolecular hydrogen abstraction on irradiation to give elimination, intramolecular disproportionation, and cyclization products.     

Gas chromatographic separation of triglycerides according to their degree of unsaturation on glass capillary columns

Triglycerides are separated according to their molecular weight and their degree of unsaturation on glass capillary columns by use of the on-column injection technique. The columns employed are silylated SE-30 columns of 4.5, 8, and 10m length with a film thickness of ca. 0.15 μm. The paper gives several examples of chromatograms of natural and hydrogenated triglycerides as well as of mixtures of pure, known triglycerides before and after interesterification.     

Rhodium-catalyzed novel trifluoromethylation at the alpha-position of alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones

Treatment of alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones with CF(3)I in the presence of Et(2)Zn and RhCl(PPh(3))(3) gave novel alpha-trifluoromethylation products in good yields. Hydrogen transfer from the ethyl group on the rhodium complex to the beta-position of the enone seems to play an important role in this reaction.     

Electrical properties of superconducting micro-contact junction made of Y?Ba?Cu?O thin film

We have carried research for the electrical properties of the superconducting micro-contact junction made of Y–Ba–Cu–O thin film. Y–Ba–Cu–O thin film was deposited on SrTiO₃ substrate by using the RF magnetron sputtering methode.Under 70GHz millimeter wave radiation, we observed the bolometric response by use of the fabricated micro-contact junctions.     

Dual synchronization of chaos in microchip lasers

We have achieved dual synchronization of chaos in two pairs of one-way coupled Nd:YVO4 microchip lasers, using only one transmission channel, by experiment and numerical calculation. We observed the individual synchronization of chaos in each pair of two lasers by adjusting the optical frequencies for injection locking between the corresponding pairs. The achievement of dual synchronization is dependent on the injection-locking condition, which is different from the locking condition for a single pair of lasers because of the presence of an additional injection signal from the master laser of the other pair.     

Suppression of spin-orbit scattering in strongly disordered gold nanojunctions

We discovered that spin-orbit scattering in strongly disordered gold nanojunctions is strongly suppressed relative to that in weakly disordered gold thin films. This property is unusual because in weakly disordered films spin-orbit scattering increases with disorder. Granularity and freezing of spin-orbit scattering inside the grains explains the suppression of spin-orbit scattering. We propose a generalized Elliot-Yafet relation that applies to a strongly disordered granular regime.
