Cascade assembly of N,N′-dialkylbarbituric acids and aldehydes: a simple and efficient one-pot approach to the substituted 1,5-dihydro-2H,2′H-spiro(furo[2,3-d]pyrimidine-6,5′-pyrimidine)-2,2′,4,4′,6′(1′H,3H,3′H)-pentone framework

Cascade assembly of N,N′-dialkylbarbituric acids and aldehydes in the presence of bromine leads to the selective and efficient formation of substituted 1,5-dihydro-2H,2′H-spiro(furo[2,3-d]pyrimidine-6,5′-pyrimidine)-2,2′,4,4′,6′-(1′H,3H,3′H)-pentones in 70-88% yields via a complex cascade process. Spirobarbiturates containing the furo[2,3-d]pyrimidine framework are a class of compounds with interesting pharmacological and physiological activity.     

Mean oscillations of the logarithmic function

The main property of functions with bounded mean oscillations-viz. the exponential decay of the distribution function, is considered. This property is represented by the John–Nirenberg inequality but the exact constant in the exponent is known only for the functions defined on those intervals which are at least one-sided bounded. In the present paper, an estimate of this constant for the functions having bounded mean oscillation on the whole real line is given. Moreover, an estimate of mean oscillations for the even extension of the functions defined on a semi-axis is established.     

Measurement of the branching fraction, polarization, and asymmetry for decays, and determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa phase

We have measured the branching fraction , longitudinal polarization fraction f(L), and CP asymmetry coefficients A and S for B(0) --> rho(+) rho(-) decays with the Belle detector at the KEKB e(+) e(-) collider using 253 Fb(-1) of data. We obtain B = [22.8 +/- 3.8(stat)(+2.3)(-2.6)(syst)] x 10(-6), f(L) = 0.941 (+0.034)(-0.040)(stat) +/- 0.030(syst). A = 0.00 +/- 0.30(stat) +/- 0.09(syst) and S = 0.08 +/- 0.09(syst). These values are used to constrain the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa phase ; the solution consistent with the standard model is phi(2) = (88 +/- 17) degrees or 59 degrees < phi(2) < 115 degrees at 90% C.L.     

Observation of a chi(c2)' candidate in gamma gamma --> DD production at belle

We report on a search for new resonant states in the process gamma gamma --> DD. A candidate C-even charmonium state is observed in the vicinity of 3.93 GeV/c2. The production rate and the angular distribution in the gamma gamma center-of-mass frame suggest that this state is the previously unobserved chi(c2)', the 2(3)P2 charmonium state.     

Evidence for CP violation in time-integrated D0→h(-)h(+) decay rates

A search for time-integrated CP violation in D(0)→h(-)h(+) (h=K, π) decays is presented using 0.62 fb(-1) of data collected by LHCb in 2011. The flavor of the charm meson is determined by the charge of the slow pion in the D(*+)→D(0)π(+) and D(*-)→D[over ˉ](0)π(-) decay chains. The difference in CP asymmetry between D(0)→K(-)K(+) and D(0)→π(-)π(+), ΔA(CP)≡A(CP)(K(-)K(+))-A(CP)(π(-)π(+)), is measured to be [-0.82±0.21(stat)±0.11(syst)]%. This differs from the hypothesis of CP conservation by 3.5 standard deviations.     

Structural aspects and ionic conductivity in perovskite-like doped niobates and titanates

Aliovalent substitution in the cation sublattices of perovskite-like niobates of the type (Pb_1−xLa_2/3x−yLi_3x)Nb₂O₆ were studied. Their crystallographic peculiarities and electrophysical properties were investigated. It has been found that at x=1 lanthanum-lithium niobates with the structure of the defect La_2/3−yLi_3yNb₂O₃ perovskite are formed, which possess a high lithium-ion conductivity. The symmetry of the perovskite crystal lattice is shown to become higher and to change from rhombic to tetragonal and cubic with increasing lithium content. The La_2/3-xLiTiO₃ compounds have a perovskite structure and a high lithium ion conductivity. The Lines model for superionic conductor gives a satisfactory fit to the frequency-temperature nature of the electrophysical properties.     

Properties of lithium ion-conducting ceramics based on rare-earth titanates

The properties of complex oxides with perovskite structure of the Ln_2/3−XM_3XTiO₃ type (where Ln = rare-earth element and M = Li, Na, K) have been investigated. It has been shown that lithium - containing perovskites possess cationic conductivity, with values depending on the size of conducting channels and the concentration of vacant sites in the rare-earth ion sublattice.
