Fragmentation of <Superscript>7</Superscript>Li relativistic nuclei on a proton into the <Superscript>3</Superscript>H + <Superscript>4</Superscript>He channel

In a track nuclear photoemulsion exposed to a beam of ⁷Li nuclei accelerated to a momentum of 3 GeV/c per nucleon at the synchrophasotron of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR, Dubna), 13 events in which ⁷Li nuclei interacting with protons break up into ³H and ⁴He fragments were detected among 3730 inelastic-interaction events. For this fragmentation channel, the cross section was found to be 8 ± 2 mb. The average value of the fragment total transverse momentum was 214 ± 5 MeV/c. This value exceeds markedly the average value of the transverse-momentum transfer in the coherent dissociation of ⁷Li nuclei on track-emulsion nuclei (166±5MeV/c). The recoil-proton transverse momentum was on average 98% of the total proton momentum. The longitudinal-momentum distribution of protons was characterized by a variance of 16 MeV/c and a mean value of 37 ± 2MeV/c.     

Synthesis and characterization of 2-(4-aryl-3-cyano-6-methylpyridin-2(1H)-ylidene)malononitriles

The synthesis of pyridine derivatives containing a buta-1,3-diene-1,1,3-tricarbonitrile fragment via the base-promoted reaction of benzalacetones and malononitrile dimer with subsequent oxidation is described. The influence of the substituents on the spectral-luminescent and electrochemical properties was also investigated.     

Solvation of Tetraethyl- and Tetrabutylammonium Bromides in Aqueous Acetone and Aqueous Hexamethyl Phosphoric Triamide Mixtures in the Water-Rich Region

The enthalpies of solutions of tetraethylammonium and tetrabutylammonium bromides in the water-rich region of the water–acetone and water–hexamethyl phosphoric triamide mixed solvents have been measured at 25°C using a precise calorimetry system. The enthalpies of electrolyte solutions at infinite dilution were calculated using the Debye–Hückel theory. The enthalpies of solute transfer from water to the mixtures with acetone and hexamethyl phosphoric triamide were calculated. The enthalpy coefficients of solute–pair interactions with hexamethyl phosphoric triamide and acetone in aqueous solution were obtained using the McMillan–Mayer formalism. The values obtained were compared with those for other organic cosolvents. It was found that in aqueous solution the solutes show a strong tendency for hydrophobic interaction with cosolvent molecules, particularly in the water–hexamethyl phosphoric triamide system.     

Developing Bicatalytic Cascade Reactions: Ruthenium-catalyzed Hydrogen Generation From Methanol

A novel state-of-the-art bicatalytic system for hydrogen generation from aqueous methanol at low temperature and base concentration is described. Applying two molecularly defined ruthenium complexes A and B3 for methanol dehydrogenation at the same time under the same conditions, a synergistic effect is observed. This behavior is explained by the increase of the dehydrogenation of formic acid, which is formed as an intermediate, by the second catalyst B3 .
