The Dual Function of PhOH Included in the Coordination Sphere of the Nickel Complexes in the Processes of Oxidation with Dioxygen

The role of ligands in the regulation of the catalytic activity of Ni-complexes (Ni(acac)₂) in green process-selective ethylbenzene oxidation with O₂ into α-phenyl ethyl hydroperoxide is considered in this article. The dual function of phenol (PhOH) included in the coordination sphere of the nickel complex as an antioxidant or catalyst depends on the ligand environment of the metal. The role of intermolecular H-bonds and supramolecular structures (AFM method) in the mechanisms of selective catalysis by nickel complexes in chemical and biological oxidation reactions is analyzed.     

New Derivatives of 5-Substituted Uracils: Potential Agents with a Wide Spectrum of Biological Activity

Pyrimidine nucleoside analogues are widely used to treat infections caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and DNA viruses from the herpes family. It has been shown that 5-substituted uracil derivatives can inhibit HIV-1, herpes family viruses, mycobacteria and other pathogens through various mechanisms. Among the 5-substituted pyrimidine nucleosides, there are not only the classical nucleoside inhibitors of the herpes family viruses, 2′-deoxy-5-iodocytidine and 5-bromovinyl-2′-deoxyuridine, but also derivatives of 1-(benzyl)-5-(phenylamino)uracil, which proved to be non-nucleoside inhibitors of HIV-1 and EBV. It made this modification of nucleoside analogues very promising in connection with the emergence of new viruses and the crisis of drug resistance when the task of creating effective antiviral agents of new types that act on other targets or exhibit activity by other mechanisms is very urgent. In this paper, we present the design, synthesis and primary screening of the biological activity of new nucleoside analogues, namely, 5′-norcarbocyclic derivatives of substituted 5-arylamino- and 5-aryloxyuracils, against RNA viruses.

Relation between structure and enthalpy for stacking interactions of aromatic molecules

An approximately linear correlation has been found between the enthalpy of complexation and the area of overlap of the chromophores using published structural and thermodynamical data on the self- and hetero-association of aromatic molecules measured under similar solution conditions. This finding is consistent with the assumption that short-range van-der-Waals forces dominate over other contributions to the enthalpy of stacking of aromatic molecules. It provides a ‘model-independent’ approach for a priori estimation of the enthalpy of aromatic–aromatic stacking interactions from knowledge of the structural properties or vice versa.     

Propagation of extremely short pulses in a graphene–boron nitride bilayer

In this study we investigate the propagation of extremely short optical pulses in a thin film formed by a graphene grown on a boron nitride substrate. Conduction electrons of the system are described on the basis of the long-wavelength effective Hamiltonian in the case of low temperatures; the electromagnetic field being taken into account within the framework of the classical Maxwell equations. The time evolution of the pulse?s shape for different speeds and maximum amplitudes of an extremely short pulse is analyzed.

Diasteroselective Addition of Monoand Bis-Silylphosphines to Chiral Aldehydes

Abstract

The addition of silylphosphines to chiral aldehydes proceeds with high diastereoselectivity to give optically pure tertiary α -trimethylsiloxyalkylphosphines. The diastereomeric excesses of the addition products were achieved to 90–100%. The reaction of bis(trimethylsilyl)phenylphosphine with the acetonide of (R)-glyceraldehyde provides diastereomerically enriched tertiary bis(glyceryl)phosphines.     

Generalized Landau-Lifshitz models on the interval

We study the classical generalized gln Landau-Lifshitz (L-L) model with special boundary conditions that preserve integrability. We explicitly derive the first non-trivial local integral of motion, which corresponds to the boundary Hamiltonian for the sl₂ L-L model. Novel expressions of the modified Lax pairs associated to the integrals of motion are also extracted. The relevant equations of motion with the corresponding boundary conditions are determined. Dynamical integrable boundary conditions are also examined within this spirit. Then the generalized isotropic and anisotropic gln Landau-Lifshitz models are considered, and novel expressions of the boundary Hamiltonians and the relevant equations of motion and boundary conditions are derived.     

Characterizing the influence of reinforcing resin on the structure and the mechanical response of filled isoprene rubber

In the present study, a specific type of reinforcing resin behavior is investigated using various mechanical approaches as well as microscopic techniques such as transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Based on these observations, it could be concluded that the reinforcing resin introduces a synergistic effect with carbon black in order to strengthen the system. This is implied since the percolation threshold is significantly reduced and the morphology of the filler aggregates changes toward higher compactness, i.e., an increase of volume-to-size ratio with the addition of resin.
