PLLA, PCL and PHBV are aliphatic polyesters which have been researched and used in a wide range of medical devices, and all three have advantages and disadvantages for specific applications. Blending of these materials is an attractive way to make a material which overcomes the limitations of the individual polymers. Both PCL and PHBV have been evaluated in polymer blends with PLLA in order to provide enhanced properties for specific applications. This paper explores the use of PCL and PHBV together with PLLA in ternary blends with assessment of the thermal, mechanical and processing properties of the resultant polymer blends, with the aim of producing new biomaterials for orthopaedic applications. DSC characterisation is used to demonstrate that the materials can be effectively blended. Blending PCL and PHBV in concentrations of 5–10% with PLLA produces materials with average modulus improved by up to 25%, average strength improved by up to 50% and average elongation at break improved by 4000%, depending on the concentrations of each polymer used. PHBV impacts most on the modulus and strength of the blends, whilst PCL has a greater impact on creep behaviour and viscosity. Blending PCL and PHBV with PLLA offers an effective approach to the development of new polyester-based biomaterials with combinations of mechanical properties which cannot be provided by any of the materials individually.  相似文献

The GRANIT system operates by applying an impulse of known force by means of an impact device that is attached to the tendon of the anchorage. The vibration response signals resulting from this impulse are complex in nature and require analysis to be undertaken in order to extract information from the vibrational response signatures that is relevant to the condition of the anchorage. In the system, the complicated relationship that exists between characteristics of an anchorage and its response to an impulse is identified and learned by a novel artificial intelligence network based on artificial intelligence techniques.The results presented in this paper demonstrate the potential of the GRANIT system to diagnose the integrity of ground anchorages at a site near Stone, England, by using a trained neural network capable of diagnosing the post-tension level of the anchorage. This neural network was used for the diagnosis of load in a second ground anchorage adjacent to the original anchorage used for the training of the neural network. Further tests were taken with a different anchor head configuration of the anchorage and a different relationship between the signature response of the anchorage to an applied impulse and its post-tension level was found.Problems encountered during the diagnosis of this second set of test signatures by the trained neural network are investigated with the use of a lumped parameter dynamic model. This model is able to identify the parameters in the anchorage system that affect this change in response signature. The results from the investigation lead to a new form of classification for the installed anchorages, based on their anchor head configuration.Laboratory strand anchorage tests were undertaken in order to compare with and validate the results obtained from the field tests and the lumped parameter dynamic model.  相似文献

Using a counter rotating parallel plate shear flow cell, the shape relaxation of deformed droplets in a quiescent matrix is studied microscopically. Both the effects of geometrical confinement and component viscoelasticity are systematically explored at viscosity ratios of 0.45 and 1.5. The flow conditions are varied from a rather low to a nearly critical Ca number. Under all conditions investigated, viscoelasticity of the droplet phase has no influence on shape relaxation, whereas matrix viscoelasticity and geometrical confinement result in a slower droplet retraction. Up to high confinement ratios, the relaxation curves for ellipsoidal droplets can be superposed onto a master curve. Confined droplets with a sigmoidal shape relax in two stages: the first consists of a shape change to an ellipsoid with a limited amount of retraction, and the second is the retraction of this ellipsoid. The latter stage can be described by means of one single relaxation time that can be obtained from the relaxation of initially ellipsoidal droplets. The experimental results are compared to the predictions of a recently published phenomenological model for droplet dynamics in confined systems with viscoelastic components (Minale et al., Langmuir 26:126–132, 2010). However, whereas the model predicts additive effects of geometrical confinement and component viscoelasticity, the experimental data reveal more complex interactions.  相似文献

We study the existence of strong solutions to the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes initial-boundary value problem in the domain, , exterior to a rigid body that rotates with constant angular velocity, . We show that when the initial data, u0, are prescribed in an appropriate functional class, a strong solution exists at least in some finite time interval. Moreover, the solution exists for all times, provided u0, in suitable norm, and the magnitude of do not exceed a certain constant depending only on the kinematic viscosity and on the regularity of . In this latter case, we also show that the velocity field converges to the velocity field of the corresponding steady-state solution.  相似文献

A stochastic estimation technique has been applied to simultaneously acquired data of velocity and surface pressure as a tool to identify the sources of wall-pressure fluctuations. The measurements have been done on a NACA0012 airfoil at a Reynolds number of Re c  = 2 × 105, based on the chord of the airfoil, where a separated laminar boundary layer was present. By performing simultaneous measurements of the surface pressure fluctuations and of the velocity field in the boundary layer and wake of the airfoil, the wall-pressure sources near the trailing edge (TE) have been studied. The mechanisms and flow structures associated with the generation of the surface pressure have been investigated. The “quasi-instantaneous” velocity field resulting from the application of the technique has led to a picture of the evolution in time of the convecting surface pressure generating flow structures and revealed information about the sources of the wall-pressure fluctuations, their nature and variability. These sources are closely related to those of the radiated noise from the TE of an airfoil and to the vibration issues encountered in ship hulls for example. The NACA0012 airfoil had a 30 cm chord and aspect ratio of 1.  相似文献

Oxyfuel combustion is a promising alternative for CO2 capture. While this has been proven in pulverized fuel (PF) burners, research in fluidized bed (FB) reactors is still scarce. Our work aims to increase the knowledge about this technology. To this purpose, a 95 kWth FB oxyfuel combustion test rig has been erected. Its main characteristics are described in this paper, giving detailed information on the subsystems: the FB reactor, the fuel and oxidant supplies, and ancillaries. Plant flexibility is emphasized. It allows to operate under different CO2/O2 ratios, and to recycle CO2 from the flue gases. Both the processes design and monitoring are supported by simulations that have been validated against experimental data, regarding fluid dynamics, combustion, and heat transfer. Finally, the performance of the facility has been tested both with coal alone and blended with biomass. CO2 concentrations over 90% (dry basis) in the flue gases have been obtained. Comparison of air and oxygen combustion tests and operational recommendations are discussed, confirming the feasibility of the FB oxyfuel technology for CO2 capture purposes.  相似文献

The dynamics of single droplets in a bounded shear flow is experimentally and numerically investigated for blends that contain one viscoelastic component. Results are presented for systems with a viscosity ratio of 1.5 and a Deborah number for the viscoelastic phase of 1. The numerical algorithm is a volume-of-fluid method for tracking the placement of the two liquids. First, we demonstrate the validation of the code with an existing boundary integral method and with experimental data for confined systems containing Newtonian components. This is followed by numerical simulations and experimental data for the combined effect of geometrical confinement and component viscoelasticity on the droplet dynamics after startup of shear flow at a moderate capillary number. The viscoelastic liquids are Boger fluids, which are modeled with the Oldroyd-B constitutive model and the Giesekus model. Confinement substantially increases the viscoelastic stresses and the elongation rates in and around the droplet. We show that the latter can be dramatic for the use of the Oldroyd-B model in confined systems with viscoelastic components. A sensitivity analysis for the choice of the model parameters in the Giesekus constitutive equation is presented.  相似文献
