2‐connected 7‐coverings of 3‐connected graphs on surfaces

An m‐covering of a graph G is a spanning subgraph of G with maximum degree at most m. In this paper, we shall show that every 3‐connected graph on a surface with Euler genus k ≥ 2 with sufficiently large representativity has a 2‐connected 7‐covering with at most 6k ? 12 vertices of degree 7. We also construct, for every surface F² with Euler genus k ≥ 2, a 3‐connected graph G on F² with arbitrarily large representativity each of whose 2‐connected 7‐coverings contains at least 6k ? 12 vertices of degree 7. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Simple and efficient cleavage reaction of the boc group in heterocyclic compounds

Dedicated to the memory of Pr. Ladjama Daif A series of chiral cyclosulfamides have been synthesized by alkaline cyclisation starting from N‐benzoylamino acids (Ala, Val, Leu, Phe) derivatives and chlorosulfonyl isocyanate. A simplified and regioselective deprotection of the cyclic compounds (cyclosulfamides) containing the tert‐butyloxycarbonyl group (Boc) has been achieved in good yield by fusion under reduced pressure.     

An expedient synthesis of an isofervenulin analogue

An efficient approach has been developed for the synthesis of an isofervenulin analogue 1 employing a one‐pot condensation‐substitution reaction of a chlorocarboethoxytriazine (electrophile) with a urea (nucleophile). The resulting cyclization reaction resulted in the synthesis of a pyrimido‐heterocycle in good yield in either acidic or basic media. The former was assisted by utilizing trimethylsilyl chloride.     

Kristallstruktur des Zinkamids Zn[N(SiMe3)2]2

Crystal Structure of the Zinc Amide Zn[N(SiMe₃)₂]₂ X‐ray quality crystals of Zn[N(SiMe₃)₂]₂ (monoclinic, P2₁/c) are obtained by sublimation of the zinc amide Zn[N(SiMe₃)₂]₂ at —30 °C in vacuo (300 torr). According to the result of the X‐ray structural analysis, Zn[N(SiMe₃)₂]₂ contains an almost linear N‐Zn‐N unit with two short N‐Zn bonds.     

Heuristic Rejection in Interval Global Optimization

Based on the investigation carried out in Ref. 1, this paper incorporates new studies about the properties of inclusion functions on subintervals while a branch-and-bound algorithm is solving global optimization problems. It is found that the relative place of the global minimum value within the inclusion function value of the objective function at the current interval indicates mostly whether the given interval is close to a minimizer point. This information is used in a heuristic interval rejection rule that can save a considerable amount of computation. Illustrative examples are discussed and an extended numerical study shows the advantages of the new approach.     

Magnetic phases in Mn<Subscript>1</Subscript>_<Subscript>x</Subscript>Fe<Subscript>x</Subscript>WO<Subscript>4</Subscript> studied by neutron powder diffraction

The magnetic structures of Mn_1-xFe_xWO₄ with x = 0.0, 0.16, 0.21, 0.225, 0.232, 0.24, 0.27, 0.29, and 1.0 were refined from neutron powder diffraction data. The magnetic phase diagram could be completed in the coexistence range of different magnetic structures up to x = 0.29. For the magnetic state at 1.5 K a commensurate antiferromagnetic structure with a propagation vector = (±1/4, 1/2, 1/2) was found for x ⩽ 0.22 while the magnetic spins order with = (1/2, 0, 0) for x ≥ 0.22. In the latter phase, additionally, weak magnetic reflections indexed to an incommensurate ordering with = (- 0.214, 1/2, 0.457) occur in the diffraction pattern up to x = 0.29 indicating the occurence of a reentrant phase. For 0.12 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.29 the low temperature phases are separated from a magnetic high temperature phase showing only magnetic reflections indexed to a spin arrangement with = (1/2, 0, 0). The magnetic phase diagram is discussed qualitatively considering random superexchange between the statistically distributed Mn²⁺- and Fe²⁺-ions in the coexistence range 0.12 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.29 of different magnetic structures related to those of pure MnWO₄ and FeWO₄. Transition‐metal‐catalyzed reactions of 5‐methylene‐2‐oxazolidinone and 5‐methylene‐1,3‐thiazolidine‐2‐thione with isocyanates

5‐Methylene‐2‐oxazolidinone (1) and 5‐methylene‐1,3‐thiazolidine‐2‐thione (4) react with various isocyanates to give the corresponding urethanes 3 and 5 in high yields in the presence of palladium(0) or palladium(II) catalyst under mild reaction conditions. Crystal Structure of Adduct 2-Phenyl-imidazo [ 4,5-f ] 1,10-phenanthroline Methanol

The structure of the title adduct comprises a phenanthroline derivative 2-phenyl-imidazo[4,5-f]1,10-phenanthroline and a methanol.The composition of the crystalline adduct was characterized as C19H12N4.CH3OH.It belongs to orthorhombic system,space group Pna21 with a=1.3693(4)nm,b=2.2988(7)nm,c=0.51338(15)nm,V=1.6160(8)nm^3.Z=4,and final R1=0.0423.wR2=0.1012 .Crystal structure shows that all the 19 carbon atoms and 4 nitrogen atoms are coplanar.The bond length data indicated that a very extensive conjugation system was formed.This conjugation makes the compound being a potentially excellent energy transformer used for luminescent materials.     

A new regioselective synthesis and bioactivity of 1H‐pyrazolo[3,4‐d]pyrimidin‐4(5H)‐one derivatives

A series of new 1H‐pyrazolo[3,4‐d]pyrimidin‐4(5H)‐one Derivatives 5 has been designed and regio‐selectively synthesized via a tandem aza‐Wittig reaction. The structures of all compounds prepared have been confirmed by ¹H NMR, IR, EI‐MS spectroscopy and elemental analyses. The results of preliminary bioassay indicate that most compounds 5 possess an inhibition effect against Botrytis cinereapers and Pyricularia oryzae at the concentration of 50 mg/L.
