The aspect of magnetic transferability was established using an automated magnetic particle transfer workstation. Maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles were synthesized via conventional co-precipitation procedure. Their transferability was determined in addition to several commercial nanoparticles that ranged in diameter, surface functionality, and composition. Transmission and scanning electron micrographs and infrared spectrum, respectively, provided size and surface information on the synthesized particles for comparison to commercially available magnetic nanoparticles.  相似文献

We examined ultraviolet radiation (UVR)-induced DNA damage in marine micro-organisms collected from surface seawater along a latitudinal transect in the Central Pacific Ocean from 70°N to 68°S. Samples were collected predawn and incubated under ambient UVR in transparent incubators at in situ temperatures until late afternoon at which time they were filtered into primarily bacterioplankton and eukaryotic fractions. Cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs) and (6-4) photoproducts [(6-4)PDs] were quantified in DNA extracts using radioimmunoassays. UVB was lowest in the polar regions and highest near the equator and correlations between UVB and DNA damage were observed. The eukaryotic fraction showed significant CPDs across the entire transect; (6-4)PDs were detected only in the tropics. The bacterial fraction showed no accumulation of (6-4)PDs at any latitude, although residual (6-4)PDs were observed. Bacterial cell volumes were greatest in the sub-Arctic and northern temperate latitudes and lower in the tropics and southern hemisphere, a unique observation that parallels Bergmann's rule. A strong negative correlation was observed between cell volume and CPDs. The environmental impact of solar UVR on marine micro-organisms in the open ocean is complex and our results suggest that several factors such as DNA repair, cell size, temperature, salinity, nutrients and species composition are important in determining relative sensitivity.  相似文献

Plutonium metal exchange programs operated by the Rocky Flats Plant were conducted from 1956–1989 to ensure quality and to compare measurements in a plutonium metal matrix. Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) re-established the program in 2001 to assess the quality of analytical chemistry capabilities that support special nuclear material characterization. It is the only program of its kind for the preparation and distribution of plutonium metal reference materials with a range of impurity contents to multiple laboratories for destructive measurements of elemental concentration, isotopic abundance, and both metallic and non-metallic impurity levels. This program provides independent verification of analytical measurement capabilities for each of the seven currently participating laboratories, and allows any technical problems with analytical measurements to be identified and corrected. This paper focuses on basic program elements and presents a summary of methods and results for plutonium, uranium, neptunium, and americium, measurements.  相似文献

Acid remarks : The anhydrous diprotic boron acids H2(B12X12) (X=Cl, Br; see picture, B orange, X green) are the first examples of diprotic superacids and may be the strongest acids yet isolated. Both protons protonate benzene to give benzenium ion salts that are stable at room temperature. These acids owe their existence to the stability of the icosahedral B12 cluster with its dinegative charge buried beneath a layer of halide substituents.

Nanocrystals of multicomponent chalcogenides, such as Cu(2)ZnSnS(4) (CZTS), are potential building blocks for low-cost thin-film photovoltaics (PVs). CZTS PV devices with modest efficiencies have been realized through postdeposition annealing at high temperatures in Se vapor. However, little is known about the precise role of Se in the CZTS system. We report the direct solution-phase synthesis and characterization of Cu(2)ZnSn(S(1-x)Se(x))(4) nanocrystals (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) with the aim of probing the role of Se incorporation into CZTS. Our results indicate that increasing the amount of Se increases the lattice parameters, slightly decreases the band gap, and most importantly increases the electrical conductivity of the nanocrystals without a need for annealing.  相似文献

We present a facile, simple method to detect DNA methylation by measuring the transverse proton relaxation behaviour. Positively charged nanoparticles are arranged along the negatively charged backbone of DNA strands through electrostatic interactions. The arrangement of NPs along DNA strands aids to amplify and compare the transverse proton relaxation signal for un-cut versus cut DNA strands cleaved by sequence specific restriction enzymes. Results from this study suggest that the presence of methylation on DNA can be detected using superparamagnetic NPs using NMR.  相似文献

The halide-induced ligand rearrangement reaction (HILR) has been employed to provide selective and exclusive in situ formation of heteroligated Rh(I), Pd(II), and Pt(II) complexes with bidentate phosphino-chalcoether ligands. To gain insights on the nature of this unique reaction, we explored this process via the stepwise addition of bidentate phosphino-chalcoether (P, X; X = S or Se) and relevant monodentate phosphine ligands with a Pt(II) metal precursor. The corresponding monoligated complexes were obtained in quantitative yields by reacting 1 equiv of a P, X bidentate ligand with Pt(II) and were fully characterized via single crystal X-ray diffraction studies and heteronuclear ((31)P, (77)Se, and (195)Pt) NMR spectroscopy in solution. These species were further reacted with a second equivalent of either a bidentate ligand or the monodentate ethyl diphenylphosphine ligand, resulting in the clean formation of the heteroligated species or, in the case of the monodentate ligand with an electron-withdrawing bidentate ligand, a mixture of products. On the basis of competitive exchange reactions between these heteroligated, homoligated, and monoligated complexes, we conclude that ligand chelation plays a crucial role in the Pt(II) HILR. The in situ preferable formation of the stable monoligated complex allows for ligand sorting to occur in these systems. In all cases where the heteroligated product results, the driving force to these species is ligand chelation.  相似文献

A surfactant bilayer/diblock polymer coating was previously developed for the separation of proteins. The coating consisted of a mixture of the cationic surfactant dioctadecyldimethylammonium bromide (DODAB) and the neutral polymer poly-oxyethylene (POE) 40 stearate (Journal of Chromatography A 1130 (2006) 265–271). Herein an improved method of generating DODAB/POE stearate coatings is demonstrated, which yields more predictable EOF, more stable coatings, greater average efficiencies and easier method development. In this sequential preparation method the DODAB is first flowed through the capillary, followed by a flow of the POE stearate (sequential method). A tunable EOF (−2.40 to −0.17 × 10−4 cm2/Vs) is achieved by varying the POE chain length (8, 40 and 100 oxyethylene units). Mixtures of POE 8 and POE 40 stearate enabled continuous variation in EOF from −2.44 to −0.42 × 10−4 cm2/Vs. Separations of basic proteins yielded efficiencies of 760 000–940 000 plates/m. Coatings formed using the sequential method were more stable over a larger number of runs (%RSD for migration times: 0.7–1.0% over 30 runs) than those formed using the original mixed method (%RSD: 2.4–4.6% over 14 runs). The ability to tune the EOF is important in maximizing the resolution of analytes with similar electrophoretic mobilities. Histone proteins are separated on a sequentially coated capillary with resolution of nine possible subtypes. Acidic proteins are separated on a sequentially coated capillary at pH 6.4.  相似文献

The development of viral nanoparticles (VNP) displaying multiple copies of the buckyball (C(60)) and their photodynamic activity is described. VNP-C(60) conjugates were assembled using click chemistry. Cell uptake and cell killing using white light therapy and a prostate cancer cell line is demonstrated.  相似文献
