Trace element characterization of bullet lead by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) is hampered by the high spectral background due to antimony, normally present in high concentration in bullet lead. Tin is indicated to be a very useful element for characterization purposes. Beta-active121Sn is a suitable nuclide for quantitation of tin provided it is separated in high radiochemical purity. A radiochemical procedure capable of determining tin down to 10 ppm in bullet lead, a sequential procedure for its determination along with copper, arsenic and antimony and the application of this procedure for the determination of the contents of these elements in various bullet leads are described. This method has been applied to a “Rhinoceros shoot-out” case, referred to our laboratory.  相似文献

The dynamics of free-ion production through electron transfer in K(np)/CH3CN collisions are examined through measurements using velocity-selected Rydberg atoms. The data show that Rydberg electron transfer leads to the creation of two groups of dipole-bound CH3CN- ions, one long lived (tau>85 micros), the other short lived (tau<1 micros). The velocity dependences associated with the production of both groups of ions are similar, the ion formation rate decreasing markedly with decreasing Rydberg atom velocity, principally as a consequence of postattachment electrostatic interactions between the product ions. The results are in reasonable accord with the predictions of a Monte Carlo collision model that considers the effect of crossings between the diabatic potential curves for the covalent K(np)/CH3CN system and the K+/CH3CN- ion pair. This model also accounts for the relatively small reaction rate constants, approximately 0.5-1.0 x 1.0(-8) cm(3) s(-1), associated with the formation of long-lived CH3CN- ions. No velocity dependence in the lifetime of the CH3CN- ions is observed.  相似文献

In this report we demonstrate the ability to tune the physical properties of a liquid crystal elastomer (LCE) by varying the amount and type of crosslinking within the elastomer network. LCE films composed of a single mesogenic compound were capable of uniaxial contraction when thermally actuated through the nematic to isotropic phase of the material. We probed the physical properties of the LCE films while varying the amount and concentration of two crosslinking agents and measured actuation strains of 10-35%, elastic moduli of 3-14 MPa, and transition temperatures ranging between 75 and 60°C. The viscous losses of the elastomers and the estimated work capable of being produced by the films were also evaluated. The ability to tune the physical properties of the LCE films allows for a wide range of applications including robotics, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), shape-changing membranes, and/or microfluidics.  相似文献
