Manganites of the LA1−x
Ca
x
MnO3 family show a variety of new and poorly understood electronic, magnetic and structural effects. Here we outline a new approach
recently proposed by us, where we argue that due to strong Jahn-Teller (JT) coupling with phonons the twofold degeneratee
g
states at the Mn sites dynamically reorganize themselves into localised, JT polaronsl with exponentially small inter-site hopping, and band-like, nonpolaronic statesb, leading to anew 2-band model for manganites which includes strong Coulomb and Hund’s couplings. We also discuss some results from a dynamical mean-field theory treatment
of the model which explains quantitatively a wide variety of experimental results, including insulator-metal transitions and
CMR, in terms of the influence of physical conditions on the relative energies and occupation of thel andb states. We argue that this microscopic coexistence of the two types of electronic states, and their relative occupation and
spatial correlation is the key to manganite physics.

Summary When a shot is fired, the projectile and the cartridge case are released from the weapon, as well as components of the priming charge and propellant, the so-called powder-gunshot residues. In order to solve firearm offences, it is therefore very important to determine the topography of trace-bearing areas on the bullet and the cartridge case, as well as the chemical composition of gunshot residue particles. Gunshot residue particles are made visible with the scanning electron microscope (SEM) and are analysed by means of energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDXS) and lately also by means of wavelength-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (WDXS). In addition to this, analyses of these particles are displayed by means of Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) and depth profiles are prepared. To determine the local distributions of gunshot residue elements with regard to their quantity, the direct Zeeman atomic absorption spectroscopy (DZ-AAS) is employed. Besides the determination of the chemical composition, the topography of the trace-bearing areas on the bullet and cartridge case plays an important part. For the detection of these surfaces, light optical and electron-optical methods are employed. Motionless mixers have found a large range of applications, including blending, reaction, dispersion, heat transfer and mass
transfer. Understanding the mixing processes that occur in these diverse systems is essential for predicting many aspects
of practical importance. The objective of this study is to perform the experimental investigations of mixing characteristics
for three different motionless mixers. The red color dye tracer was mixed in the main stream of green hair styling gel, and
then the mixing efficiency was quantified by calculating the percentage area concentration of red color at the outlet cross
section using a digital image processing technique. In the Sulzer SMX and YHC mixer, a single element mixes the fluid nearly
in two dimensions, and three-dimensional mixing is accomplished by the next elements aligned at 90o to their former one. In
the Sulzer SMX mixer, the flow appears to be globally well mixed after 5 elements, while in the YHC and YNU mixers, it is

The NA60 experiment at the CERN SPS has studied low-mass muon pairs in 158 A GeV In–In collisions. A strong excess of pairs
is observed above the yield expected from neutral meson decays. The unprecedented sample size close to 400000 events and the
good mass resolution of about 2% made it possible to isolate the excess by subtraction of the decay sources. The shape of
the resulting mass spectrum shows some non-trivial centrality dependence, but is largely consistent with a dominant contribution
from π+π-→ϱ→μ+μ- annihilation. The associated ϱ spectral function exhibits considerable broadening, but essentially no shift in mass. The
pT-differential mass spectra show the excess to be much stronger at low pT than at high pT. The results are compared to theoretical model predictions; they tend to rule out models linking hadron masses directly to
the chiral condensate.

FeSiBNb amorphous powder cores were prepared with the amorphous powder by gas atomization and subsequent hot pressing of resulting powder after creating oxide layers on the amorphous powder. Fully amorphous FeSiBNb powders with good soft magnetic properties were successfully obtained in the particle size range below 100 μm. FeSiBNb amorphous powder cores exhibit stable permeability up to 10 MHz, showing excellent high-frequency characteristics. 相似文献

The size, shape and surface topology have a strong influence on powders properties, such as: mechanical, optical, catalytic, etc. In addition, when particles have a nanometer size, the dispersion of these features plays an important role.There are a number of techniques, which could be used in order to characterize powders in terms of particle size and shape. However, due to the scale of analysis, well beyond the wavelength of visible light, most of them cannot be applied for investigations of nanopowders.In this paper, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image analysis and X-ray methods are presented as promising and complementary techniques. Pd-Cu bimetallic surfaces formed through a vacuum-deposition of Pd on Cu(1 1 1) have been discussed on the basis of carbon monoxide (CO) adsorption: CO is used as a surface probe and infrared reflection absorption (IRRAS) spectra are recorded for the CO-adsorbed surfaces. Low energy electron diffraction (LEED) patterns for the bimetallic surfaces reveal six-fold symmetry even after the deposition of 0.6 nm. The lattice spacings estimated by the separations of reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED) streaks increase with increasing Pd thickness. Room-temperature CO exposures to the bimetallic surfaces formed by the Pd depositions less than 0.3 nm thickness generate the IRRAS bands due to the three-fold-hollow-, bridge- and linear-bonded CO to Pd atoms. In particular, on the 0.1 nm-thick Pd surface, the linear-bonded CO band becomes apparent at an earlier stage of the exposure. In contrast, the bridge-bonded CO band dominates the IRRAS spectra for CO adsorption on the 0.6 nm-thick Pd surface, at which the lattice spacing corresponds to that of Pd(1 1 1). A 90 K-CO exposure to the 0.1 nm-thick Pd surface leads to the IRRAS bands caused not only by CO-Pd but also by CO-Cu, while the Cu-related band is almost absent from the spectra for the 0.3 nm-thick Pd surface. The results clearly reveal that local atomic structures of the outermost bimetallic surface can be discussed by the IRRAS spectra for the probe molecule. 相似文献

Changes in 3d states occupancy associated with order–disorder transition and martensitic transformation in a Cu–Al–Be alloy was investigated by electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) in both high energy and low energy loss regions. From the high energy loss region, the Cu L2,3 white-line intensities, which reflect the unoccupied density of states in 3d bands, was measured for three states of the alloy: disordered austenite, ordered austenite and martensite. It was found that the white-line intensity remains the same during order–disorder transition but appears slightly smaller in martensite, indicating that some electrons left Cu 3d bands or some hybridization took place during phase transformation. From the low energy loss region, the optical joint density of states (OJDS) was obtained by Kramers–Kronig analysis. As maxima observed in the OJDS spectra are assigned to interband transitions, these spectra can be used to probe changes in the electronic band structure. The analysis shows that during the martensitic transformation, the peaks positions and relative intensities in the OJDS spectra undergoes noticeable changes, which are associated with interband transitions. 相似文献

An original procedure has been developed for the quantitative analysis and microstructural interpretation of angle-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectra (AR-XPS) of very thin (<6 nm), multi-element oxide films as grown on metallic binary alloy substrates by, e.g., thermal or plasma oxidation. To this end, first an approach has been given to retrieve the different metallic, oxidic and oxygen primary zero-loss (PZL) intensities from the measured AR-XPS spectra of the bare and oxidized alloy. The principal equations for the determination of the oxide-film thickness, composition and constitution from the resolved PZL intensities have been presented. On this basis, various corresponding calculation routes have been distinguished. The procedure has been applied to the case of very thin (<6 nm), mixed (Mg, Al)-oxide films on bare Mg-based MgAl substrates as grown by dry, thermal oxidation at room temperature. The results obtained on the thickness, composition, defect structure and constitution of the oxide-film have been discussed as function of the bulk Al alloying content and the applied partial pressure of oxygen. 相似文献
