Summary. The aim of this paper is to give a new method for the numerical approximation of the biharmonic problem. This method is based on the mixed method given by Ciarlet-Raviart and have the same numerical properties of the Glowinski-Pironneau method. The influence of power ultrasound on the crystallization of potash alum was investigated. Experiments have been carried out in a batch stirred vessel. It was found that ultrasonic waves decrease the supersaturation limits and modify the morphology of the crystals produced. The average crystal size decreases with an increase of ultrasonic power. To investigate also the action of ultrasound on already existing crystals, crystals produced in silent conditions were suspended in saturated potash alum solution at various ultrasonic powers. The results show that ultrasound has also an abrasive effect on potash alum crystals for high power inputs.  相似文献

Live cell fluorescent labeling of proteins has become a seminal tool in biology and has led to hallmark discoveries in diverse research areas such as protein trafficking, cell-to-cell interactions, and intracellular network dynamics. One of the main challenges, however, remains the ability to label intracellular proteins using fluorescent ligands with high specificity, all the while retaining viability of the targeted cells. Here, we present the first example of live cell labeling and imaging of an intracellular bacterial receptor involved in cell-to-cell communication (i.e., quorum sensing), using a novel two-step approach involving covalent attachment of a reactive mimic of the primary endogenous Pseudomonas aeruginosa quorum-sensing signal to its receptor, LasR, followed by aniline-catalyzed oxime formation between the modified receptor and a fluorescent BODIPY derivative. Our results indicate that LasR is not distributed evenly throughout the cytoplasmic membrane but is instead concentrated at the poles of the P. aeruginosa cell.  相似文献

This paper describes a method to direct the formation of microstructures of poly(isobenzofuran) (PIBF) by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on chemically patterned, reactive, self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) prepared on gold substrates. We examined the growth dependence of PIBF by deposition onto several different SAMs each presenting different surface functional groups, including a carboxylic acid, a phenol, an alcohol, an amine, and a methyl group. Interferometry, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and optical microscopy were used to characterize the PIBF films grown on the various SAMs. Based on the kinetic and the spectroscopic analyses, we suggest that the growth of PIBF is surface-dependent and may follow a cationic polymerization mechanism. Using the cationic polymerization mechanism of PIBF growth, we also prepared patterned SAMs of 11-mercapto-1-undecanol (MUO) or 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA) by microcontact printing (microCP) on gold substrates as templates, to direct the growth of the PIBF. The directed growth and the formation of microstructures of PIBF with lateral dimensions of 6 microm were investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM). The average thickness of the microstructures of PIBF films grown on the MUO and the MUA patterns were 400 +/- 40 nm and 490 +/- 40 nm, respectively. SAMs patterned with carboxylic acid salts (Cu2+, Fe2+, or Ag+) derived from MUA led to increases in the average thickness of the microstructures of PIBF by 10%, 12%, or 27%, respectively, relative to that of control templates. The growth dependence of PIBF on the various carboxylic acid salts was also investigated using experimental observations of the growth kinetics and XPS analyses of the relative amount of metal ions present on the template surfaces.  相似文献

Essential oils are gaining interest as environmentally friendly alternatives to synthetic fungicides for management of seedborne pathogens. Here, seven essential oils were initially tested in vivo for disinfection of squash seeds (Cucurbita maxima) naturally contaminated by Stagonosporopsis cucurbitacearum, Alternaria alternata, Fusarium fujikuro, Fusarium solani, Paramyrothecium roridum, Albifimbria verrucaria, Curvularia spicifera, and Rhizopus stolonifer. The seeds were treated with essential oils from Cymbopogon citratus, Lavandula dentata, Lavandula hybrida, Melaleuca alternifolia, Laurus nobilis, and Origanum majorana (#1 and #2). Incidence of S. cucurbitacearum was reduced, representing a range between 67.0% in L. nobilis to 84.4% in O. majorana #2. Treatments at 0.5 mg/mL essential oils did not affect seed germination, although radicles were shorter than controls, except with C. citratus and O. majorana #1 essential oils. Four days after seeding, seedling emergence was 20%, 30%, and 10% for control seeds and seeds treated with C. citratus essential oil (0.5 mg/mL) and fungicides (25 g/L difenoconazole plus 25 g/L fludioxonil). S. cucurbitacearum incidence was reduced by ~40% for plantlets from seeds treated with C. citratus essential oil. These data show the effectiveness of this essential oil to control the transmission of S. cucurbitacearum from seeds to plantlets, and thus define their potential use for seed decontamination in integrated pest management and organic agriculture.  相似文献
