Über die Stromdichtepotentialkurven passivierbarer Metalle,am Beispiel des Eisens dargestellt

Zusammenfassung Es wurde an Hand des Zahlenmaterials meiner Arbeit »Über die Passivierung speziell des Eisens« a. a. O. gezeigt, da\ man unter BerÜcksichtigung der Zeiterscheinungen Stromspannungskurven fÜr die Passivierung des Eisens erhält, welche aus zwei ästen bestehen. Von diesen entspricht der eine dem Verhalten des aktiven, der andere dem Verhalten des passiven Metalles. Die frÜheren, ohne BerÜcksichtigung der Zeitverhältnisse von verschiedenen Forschern aufgestellten Kurven entsprechen mehr oder weniger Zufallswerten, geben das Verhalten eines Metalles, das aktiv und passiv auftreten kann, nicht vollständig wieder und sind als Grundlage theoretischer Diskussionen unzureichend.     

Functional calculus for non-commuting operators with real spectra via an iterated Cauchy formula

We define a smooth functional calculus for a non-commuting tuple of (unbounded) operators A_j on a Banach space with real spectra and resolvents with temperate growth, by means of an iterated Cauchy formula. The construction is also extended to tuples of more general operators allowing smooth functional calculii. We also discuss the relation to the case with commuting operators.

Sliding spark spectroscopy

Summary A new analytical radiation source combined with fiber optics linked to a diode array detection device with modified software is described. The direct-reading spectrometer simultaneously covers the wavelength range 185–510 nm with a spectral resolution of <1.5 nm. Intense optical emission is observed when positionally stable high-current surface sparks supplied by a pulse-generator with definite discharge parameters (max. 800 Ampere/pulse) are sliding over compact non-conductive materials such as plastics, glasses, quartz filters or powder pellets. Substrate vaporization, ionization and excitation processes in the surface discharge plasma channel generate emission corresponding to neutral and ionic states. The spectra are essentially composed of lines emitted by the electrode material (e.g. copper, silver), from the substrate under investigation, radiation continuum as well as structured background from the surrounding air atmosphere. Due to the occurrence of emission lines of reactive fillers, inorganic pigments and stabilizers, a rapid multi-element screening method is demonstrated. A rapid identification system (mix-up test) of PVC or fire-retardant thermoplastics within one second has been realized from the atomic emission line intensity originating from the sputtered copper electrode material according to its increased volatility in the presence of chlorine (modified Beilstein test).Puls-Plasma-Technik GmbH, Dortmund     

Asymmetric hydrogenation of alkyl(vinyl)thioethers: a promising approach to α-chiral thioethers

This paper describes the enantioselective hydrogenation of vinylthioethers. We show that thioether derivatives of maleic esters can be hydrogenated with full conversion and up to 60% ee, and that α-thioether cinnamic acids can be hydrogenated in 51% ee with modest conversion.     

Contingent epiderivatives and set-valued optimization

In this paper we introduce the concept of the contingent epiderivative for a set-valued map which modifies a notion introduced by Aubin [2] as upper contingent derivative. It is shown that this kind of a derivative has important properties and is one possible generalization of directional derivatives in the single-valued convex case. For optimization problems with a set-valued objective function optimality conditions based on the concept of the contingent epiderivative are proved which are necessary and sufficient under suitable assumptions.
