Tissue water content is an important diagnostic parameter that can be used for estimation of water loss in muscles such as common dehydration during high endurance exercises. It could be also applied for evaluation of the increased fluids content in the tissue caused by the variety of pathological conditions or edemas. Ultrasonic method for tissue water content monitoring is based on the premise that the speed of a bulk or compression sound wave is determined mainly by the molecular content of the tissue. Most soft tissues, including muscles that consist of about 70-80% water, exhibit shift of the ultrasound velocity associated with the change in their water content. In the present paper, we tested the feasibility of assessing changes in tissue water content by measurements of ultrasound velocity in ex vivo animal muscle tissues. An increase in the ultrasound velocity correlated with the volumetric water loss in the tissue was observed when other tissue components (proteins, fat) remained constant. Possibility to assess muscle dehydration with 1% accuracy was confirmed in model dehydration experiments, where ultrasound velocity slope of about 3 m/s per 1% of water loss was revealed at measurement error less than 2 m/s. Hence, the ultrasonic approach can provide basis for a convenient, lightweight system in sports medicine for monitoring total body hydration during long-term endurance exercise in hot conditions, as well as for edemas monitoring and other medical applications.  相似文献

We present a study of resonant optical properties of gold‐protected silver nanoisland films. Silver nanoislands were grown on a glass substrate using out‐diffusion technique, the growth was followed by the deposition of nanometer‐thick gold coatings. Scanning electron microscopy and optical spectroscopy were used to characterize morphology and extinction spectra of the grown combined silver–gold nanostructures. Micro Raman spectroscopy of the combined nanoislands has demonstrated their signal enhancement factor exceeding that one of the initial silver nanoislands.  相似文献

Observed first in Wilson's pioneering experiments in the cloud chamber, the sign preference has remained a mystery for more than a century. We investigate the sign preference using a quantum approach and show that this puzzling phenomenon is essentially quantum in nature. It is shown that the effect of the chemical identity of the core ion is controlled by the electronic structure of the core ion through the influence on the intermolecular bonding energies during the initial steps of cluster formation. Our results demonstrate the superiority of the quantum approach and indicate fundamental problems of conventional ion-induced nucleation theories, in which the electronic structure of the core ion is either ignored or not treated rigorously.  相似文献

We consider the Higgs boson production in the gluon-fusion channel to next-to-next-to-leading order within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. In particular, we present analytical results for the matching coefficient of the effective theory and study its influence on the total production cross section in the limit where the masses of all MSSM particles coincide. For supersymmetric masses below 500 GeV it is possible to find parameters leading to a significant enhancement of the Standard Model cross section, the K-factors, however, change only marginally.  相似文献

Femtosecond x-ray magnetic circular dichroism was used to study the time-dependent magnetic moment of 4f electrons in the ferromagnets Gd and Tb, which are known for their different spin-lattice coupling. We observe a two-step demagnetization with an ultrafast demagnetization time of 750 fs identical for both systems and slower times which differ sizeably with 40 ps for Gd and 8 ps for Tb. We conclude that spin-lattice coupling in the electronically excited state is enhanced up to 50 times compared to equilibrium.  相似文献

The main properties of infrared stimulated electronic Raman scattering (SERS) at the 62 S 1/2-72 S 1/2, 3/2 transitions in cesium atoms are studied theoretically and experimentally as functions of the atomic concentration, which was varied from 1011 to 1016 cm?3. It is found that the efficiency of generation of Stokes radiation strongly depends on one-photon absorption of the pump radiation tuned near frequencies of the 62 S 1/2-72 P 1/2, 3/2 transitions. By using the equation for the density matrix, which describes the evolution of a three-level system, the theory of resonance excitation of IR radiation upon one-photon absorption at an adjacent transition is developed. The theory describes well the main features of IR SERS in alkali-metal vapors.  相似文献

A source of positrons allowing 5 × 108 positrons accelerated to the energy of 70 MeV to be produced per pulse has been developed. The process of electron-positron pair production in an electromagnetic shower is used for production of positrons. The electromagnetic shower is generated in a tantalum target by a beam of 2 × 1010 electrons with energy 270 MeV. A high efficiency of positron collection (positron yield Y ≈ 0.1 GeV?1) is ensured by a unique design of the matching device.  相似文献

A remarkable analogy is established between the well-known spin Hall effect and the polarization dependence of Rayleigh scattering of light in microcavities. This dependence results from the strong spin effect in elastic scattering of exciton polaritons: if the initial polariton state has a zero spin and is characterized by some linear polarization, the scattered polaritons become strongly spin polarized. The polarization in the scattered state can be positive or negative dependent on the orientation of the linear polarization of the initial state and on the direction of scattering. Very surprisingly, spin polarizations of the polaritons scattered clockwise and anticlockwise have different signs. The optical spin Hall effect is possible due to strong longitudinal-transverse splitting and finite lifetime of exciton polaritons in microcavities.  相似文献
