Influence of metastable-metastable collisions on electron distribution function in afterglow

The time dependence of the electron distribution function in helium afterglow, for pressures of 60–260 Pa, is calculated for the case in which metastable-metastable reactions are present. The time variation of the shape of the distribution function shows that careful consideration must be made of the time derivative of the distribution function in the Boltzmann equation for the calculation of the rate constant of such reactions from experimentally determined distribution function.     

Softening during and after the hot deformation of the AISI 321 steel with respect to practical applications

The softening processes during and after the hot deformation (850–1180 C) in AISI 321 stainless steel were studied with respect to true strains _D and true strain rates . The analysis of deformation curves indicates the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization for values of Zener-Hollomon parameterZ10¹⁵ s^–1. The retardation of static recrystallization by fine Ti(N, C) precipitates is documented by microstructure studies and by variations of annealing conditions.     

Conditioning of industrial waste in cement matrix

Results are presented of a series of experimental tests performed to determine the influence of matrix characteristics on the leaching mechanism of copper aluminium oxychloride immobilized into cement matrices. The objective of this research was to investigate the leaching mechanism of copper as a constituent of copper aluminium oxychloride (CAOX).     

Scalar gluonium candidates and the radiativeJ/ψ decays

We discuss productions of scalar gluonium candidates in the radiativeJ/ decays. The branching ratios of such productions are estimated on the basis of the Euler-Heisenberg effective Lagrangian for gluon-photon couplings. We mention that these estimates cannot be expected to be accurate to better than within a factor 2. We show that the radiativeJ/ decays probably invalidate gluoniumgg interpretation of the GAMS meson F₀(1590) and a narrow 0⁺⁺ stateS lying below 1 GeV. However, a possible wide scalar effective gluonium candidate(920) is shown not to be excluded by the data on the decayJ/. We also find that the experimental data about radiativeJ/ decays presumably agree with a recently suggested interpretation of F₀(1590) as being approximately a half-and-half mixture of pure 0⁺⁺ gluoniumgg andSU(3)_f singlet quarkoniumq¯q states.     

On the tensor product of supersingleton representations ofosp(1, 2n)

The tensor product of two supersingleton representations _n of the Lie superalgebraosp (1, 2n) is studied forn2. The main results are as follows: (a) anticommutators and commutators of the odd generators in _{n n} form a skew-symmetric representation of the Lie algebrau(n, n); (b) simple explicit form of all irreducible components of _{n n}, which are labelled by a single parameterJ=0, 1, ..., has been found. Each of them is a^*-representation ofosp (1, 2n) for which assertion (a) is valid. The dimension of its vacuum subspace equals , i.e., the nondegenerate vacuum occurs for J=0 only. Basic property of this family of irreducible^*-representations of osp(1, 2n) are analogous to those of massless representations of osp(1, 4).Dedicated to Academician Václav Votruba on the occasion of his eightieth birthday.     

Optimization of ozone generation

The generation of ozone under homogeneous conditions is described by a system of kinetic equations. We supposed a certain time dependence of electric field intensity inside a discharge gap. We computed the dependence of efficiency of the ozone generation on both the width and the maximum intensity of electric pulse.     

Ethylenediamine effect on the sorption of cesium on zeolites ZSM-5 and Y

The sorption of cesium was studied on zeolites ZSM-5 and Y. It was found that the sorption is much higher on zeolite Y than in ZSM-5 and it depends on the crystalline network of the zeolite. It was found as well that the main uptake mechanism involved in both zeolites for cesium was ion exchange.     

Peptide labeling using 188Re, 188Re-MAG3 and 153Sm-H1ETA: A comparison on their in vitro lipophilicity

Lanreotide peptide was labeled with ¹⁵³Sm-H₁ETA and ¹⁸⁸Re-MAG₃ in order to evaluate whether or not their conjugation to the peptide produce significant differences of the in vitro lipophilicity with respect to the ¹⁸⁸Re-lanreotide prepared by the direct labeling method (highly lipophilic). The differences of lipophilicity between the complexes, were evaluated using a reverse phase HPLC system. The measured lipophilicity of ¹⁵³Sm-H₁ETA-lanreotide, ¹⁸⁸Re-MAG₃-lanreotide and ¹⁸⁸Re-lanreotide was taken to be the capacity factor [k" = (t _R-t ₀)/t ₀ where t _R is the retention time and t ₀ is the dead time] for each of the complexes under identical chromatography conditions. Results showed that the in vitro lipophilicity decreased in the order ¹⁸⁸Re-lanreotide (direct labeling), ¹⁸⁸Re-MAG₃-lanreotide and ¹⁵³Sm-H₁ETA-lanreotide. Since the last one has a capacity factor (k") similar to that of ¹⁸⁸Re-MAG₃, some renal elimination for ¹⁵³Sm-H₁ETA-lanreotide could be expected, which probably would reduce the unnecessary radiation dose to normal tissues.     

Bonding Properties of a Novel Inorganometallic Complex, Ru(SnPh(3))(2)(CO)(2)(iPr-DAB) (iPr-DAB = N,N'-Diisopropyl-1,4-diaza-1,3-butadiene), and its Stable Radical-Anion, Studied by UV-Vis, IR, and EPR Spectroscopy, (Spectro-) Electrochemistry, and Density Functional Calculations

Ru(SnPh(3))(2)(CO)(2)(iPr-DAB) was synthesized and characterized by UV-vis, IR, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, (119)Sn NMR, and mass (FAB(+)) spectroscopies and by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, which proved the presence of a nearly linear Sn-Ru-Sn unit. Crystals of Ru(SnPh(3))(2)(CO)(2)(iPr-DAB).3.5C(6)H(6) form in the triclinic space group P&onemacr; in a unit cell of dimensions a = 11.662(6) ?, b = 13.902(3) ?, c = 19.643(2) ?, alpha = 71.24(2) degrees, beta = 86.91(4) degrees, gamma = 77.89(3) degrees, and V = 2946(3) ?(3). One-electron reduction of Ru(SnPh(3))(2)(CO)(2)(iPr-DAB) produces the stable radical-anion [Ru(SnPh(3))(2)(CO)(2)(iPr-DAB)](*-) that was characterized by IR, and UV-vis spectroelectrochemistry. Its EPR spectrum shows a signal at g = 1.9960 with well resolved Sn, Ru, and iPr-DAB (H, N) hyperfine couplings. DFT-MO calculations on the model compound Ru(SnH(3))(2)(CO)(2)(H-DAB) reveal that the HOMO is mainly of sigma(Sn-Ru-Sn) character mixed strongly with the lowest pi orbital of the H-DAB ligand. The LUMO (SOMO in the reduced complex) should be viewed as predominantly pi(H-DAB) with an admixture of the sigma(Sn-Ru-Sn) orbital. Accordingly, the lowest-energy absorption band of the neutral species will mainly belong to the sigma(Sn-Ru-Sn)-->pi(iPr-DAB) charge transfer transition. The intrinsic strength of the Ru-Sn bond and the delocalized character of the three-center four-electron Sn-Ru-Sn sigma-bond account for the inherent stability of the radical anion.     

Inductively coupled plasma compared with direct current arc spectrometry for analysis of minor elements in aluminium baths

A validation study was carried out in order to evaluate the efficiency of inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) for the analysis of minor elements (manganese, chromium, copper, iron, and titanium) in aluminium alloys. Aluminium casting samples were obtained by adding compressed powder compacts of each alloying element and aluminium (minitablets) to aluminum baths in a laboratory crucible furnace. Digestion of solid samples was performed using concentrated HCI and H202 35% (v/v) previous to analysis by ICP-OES without any matrix separation. This solution-based method was validated considering direct current arc spectrometry as the reference method based on direct analysis without any pretreatment of the solid samples considered. Univariate statistical procedures were carried out, for which precision <3% and trueness of the analytical results were taken into account.
