Stage-I fatigue cracks are commonly described by the model of Bilby, Cottrell and Swinden (BCS model). However, since several experimental investigations have shown a dislocation-free zone (DFZ) in front of crack-tips, it is necessary to validate the new DFZ model and to examine the deviations to the BCS model. Therefore, the dislocation density distribution is derived from height profiles of slip lines in front of stage-I fatigue cracks in CMSX4® single crystals measured by contact-mode atomic force microscopy. This is possible, because the cracks are initiated at notches milled by focused ion beam technique directly on slip planes with a high Schmid factor. Consequently, the directions of the Burgers vectors are well known; it is possible to calculate the dislocation density distributions from the height profiles. The measured distributions are compared to the calculated distribution function of the DFZ model proposed by Chang et al. The additionally measured microscopic friction stress of the dislocations is then used to calculate the influence of grain boundaries on the dislocation density distribution in front of stage-I cracks. The calculation is done by the extended DFZ model of Shiue et al. and compared with the measured distribution function in polycrystalline specimens. Finally, the crack-tip sliding displacement as a measure for the crack propagation rate is compared for the DFZ model and the BCS model with the experimentally revealed values. The important result: the often used BCS model does not reflect the experimental measurements. Channeling describes the collimated motion of energetic charged particles along the lattice plane or axis in a crystal. The energetic particles are steered through the channels formed by strings of atomic constituents in the lattice. In the case of planar channeling, the motion of a charged particle between the atomic planes can be periodic or quasiperiodic, such as a simple oscillatory motion in the transverse direction. In practice, however, the periodic motion of the channeling particles can be accompanied by an irregular, chaotic behavior. In this paper, the Moliere potential, which is considered as a good analytical approximation for the interaction of channeling particles with the rows of atoms in the lattice, is used to simulate the channeling behavior of positively charged particles in a tungsten (100) crystal plane. By appropriate selection of channeling parameters, such as the projectile energy E(0) and incident angle psi(0), the transition of channeling particles from regular to chaotic motion is demonstrated. High resolution 1H and 13C NMR data were obtained on PVC and PVC reduced with Bu3SnH. The reduction is never complete and CH2Cl groups preferentially remain. It causes almost complete formation of cyclopentane structures from both internal and chain end unsaturation. 1H NMR gives total unsaturation as well as chain end unsaturation except if there are interferences with initiator residues; in that case, its combination with 13 C NMR of reduced PVC gives the chain end unsaturation. By the last method short branches and long ends are determined. Residual primary chlorine in all kinds of branches (methyl, ethyl, butyl, long ends) is taken into account. Long end contents are to be corrected (factor around 1.5), due to incomplete relaxation in standard analysis conditions. 1H NMR of reduced PVC can be used to get the total non-reduced structures, both -CH2Cl and -CHCl-. PVC was prepared by suspension or solution (trichlorobenzene) polymerization at 55° C, using dicetyl peroxydicarbonate as an initiator. The initiator residue content is higher in suspension PVC at very low conversion, and then levels off at a low value; in solution polymerization, it chiefly depends on the monomer/initiator ratio. At low conversion, more chain end and less short branches are present in suspension polymerization. Otherwise, only the butyl branch content shows a definite trend to increase with conversion. In solution polymerization, the number of defects is chiefly dependent on the initial monomer concentration; it is generally much higher than in suspension, except for the chloromethyl branches where both processes give about the same results. 相似文献

We present an exact solution for the distribution P(h(m),L) of the maximal height h(m) (measured with respect to the average spatial height) in the steady state of a fluctuating Edwards-Wilkinson interface in a one dimensional system of size L with both periodic and free boundary conditions. For the periodic case, we show that P(h(m),L)=L(-1/2)f(h(m)L(-1/2)) for all L>0, where the function f(x) is the Airy distribution function that describes the probability density of the area under a Brownian excursion over a unit interval. For the free boundary case, the same scaling holds, but the scaling function is different from that of the periodic case. Numerical simulations are in excellent agreement with our analytical results.
