Synchrotron radiation photoelectron studies for primary radiation effects using a liquid water jet in vacuum: Total and partial photoelectron yields for liquid water near the oxygen -edge

A new spectroscopy to identify the hydration structure playing important role in liquid-phase radiation damage is in progress using a laminar liquid water jet sample in vacuum in combination with soft X-ray synchrotron radiation. We present the total and partial electron yields for liquid water using a photoelectron spectroscopy. Partial electron yields for the K^-11b₁1b₁ Auger transition are obtained for the first time by measuring the electrostatically dispersed electron kinetic energy spectra as a function of photon energy of synchrotron radiation.     

Families of cyclic polynomials obtained from geometric generalization of Gaussian period relations

A general method of constructing families of cyclic polynomials over with more than one parameter will be discussed, which may be called a geometric generalization of the Gaussian period relations. Using this, we obtain explicit multi-parametric families of cyclic polynomials over of degree . We also give a simple family of cyclic polynomials with one parameter in each case, by specializing our parameters.

     

Highly dispersed Ce(III) species on silica and alumina as new photocatalysts for non-oxidative direct methane coupling

Highly dispersed cerium oxide species on silica and alumina, which mainly exist as Ce(III) species, promote non-oxidative direct methane coupling photocatalytically around room temperature, while Ce(IV) species as CeO2 particles do not behave as a catalyst for this reaction.     

A novel photorearrangement of a cyclohexadiene derivative of C60

[reaction: see text] Photorearrangement of tetraalkoxycarbonyl-substituted cyclohexadiene derivatives of C(60) yields not only well-known bis(fulleroid) but also bis(methano)fullerene. Existence of a labile and structurally new intermediate is observed in the reaction mixture. The discovery of the compound suggests the existence of another possible pathway giving those two products other than the widely accepted [4 + 4]/[2 + 2 + 2] mechanism.     

Fe-Al layered double hydroxides in bromate reduction: Synthesis and reactivity

This study presents a rare use of layered double hydroxides of Fe(II) and Al(III) (Fe-Al LDH), as reported for the first time for bromate removal from aqueous solutions. The Fe-Al LDH samples were prepared with Fe/Al molar ratios of 1-4 using a co-precipitation method at pH 7, with subsequent hydrothermal treatment at 120°C. The Fe-Al LDH (molar ratio of Fe/Al=1, 2) with a layered structure exhibited nearly complete removal of bromate from initial concentration of 100μmol/dm(3) at a wide pH range of 4.0-10.5 over a 2h reaction period; the residual bromate concentration in the solution was lower than the detection limit of 0.07μmol/dm(3) (9μg-BrO(3)(-)/dm(3)). During the reaction period, bromide was released into the solution via a reduction process. Reactivity of Fe-Al LDH with a Fe/Al molar ratio of 2 did not decrease the bromate reduction efficiency during 30days.

Three metabolites of N-[2-(1-azabicyclo[3.3.0]octan-5-yl)ethyl]-2-nitroaniline fumarate (SK-946), a novel central muscarinic cholinergic receptor agonist, were prepared to confirm their proposed structures, and tested for muscarinic receptor affinity in vitro.

Rationality problem of three-dimensional purely monomial group actions: the last case

A -automorphism of the rational function field is called purely monomial if sends every variable to a monic Laurent monomial in the variables . Let be a finite subgroup of purely monomial -automorphisms of . The rationality problem of the -action is the problem of whether the -fixed field is -rational, i.e., purely transcendental over , or not. In 1994, M. Hajja and M. Kang gave a positive answer for the rationality problem of the three-dimensional purely monomial group actions except one case. We show that the remaining case is also affirmative.
