Ferroelectric porous molecular crystal, [Mn3(HCOO)6](C2H5OH), exhibiting ferrimagnetic transition

A porous molecular crystal with guest ethanol molecules, [Mn3(HCOO)6](C2H5OH), was found to be a new type of multifunctional molecular system, which exhibits a ferroelectric transition at 165 K and a ferrimagnetic transition at 8.5 K. [Mn3(HCOO)6](C2H5OH) will give a hint to design "multiferroic" molecular materials where ferroelectric and ferromagnetic orders coexist.     

Protective effects of a neutral polysaccharide isolated from the mycelium of Antrodia cinnamomea on Propionibacterium acnes and lipopolysaccharide induced hepatic injury in mice

Mycelia of Antrodia cinnamomea were extracted with chloroform and hot water. A neutral polysaccharide named ACN2a separated from the water extract was purified using 10% CCl3COOH, and repeated column chromatography on HW-65 and DE-52 cellulose. Its structure was determined by chemical and spectroscopic analyses. ACN2a was composed of Gal, Glc, Fuc, Man and GalN (in the ratio 1:0.24:0.07:0.026:faint), in which an alpha-D-(1-->6)-Gal linkage accounted for 73% of all linkages. The ratio of branch points was about 16% of the total residual numbers, and branches were attached to C-2 of galactosyl residues of the main chain. ACN2a had an average molecular weight of 12.9x10(5) Daltons, [alpha]D25=+115 degrees (c=0.44, H2O); [eta]=0.0417dl.g-1, Cp=0.2663 cal/(g. degrees C). The hepatoprotective effect of ACN2a was evaluated using a mouse model of hepatic injury that was induced by Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The administration of ACN2a (0.4, 0.8 g/kg/d, p.o.), significantly prevented increases in serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) enzyme activities in mice treated with P. acnes-LPS, indicating hepatoprotective activity in vivo.     

A white-light interferometer using a lamp source and heterodyne detection with acousto-optic modulators

A heterodyne technique for white-light interferometer with a lamp source, which uses two acousto-optic modulators, is developed for high-sensitivity detection of weak light. By using converging input beams input into a Michelson interferometer with spherical mirrors, the spectral dependence of the modulators is canceled, and the white-light heterodyne interference fringes are generated at 200 kHz. Using a tandem interferometer, the object surface which has a low surface reflectivity of less than 10⁻⁴ was detected with a good signal-to-noise ratio.     

Polystyrenes with chiral phosphoramide substituents as Lewis base catalysts for asymmetric addition of allyltrichlorosilane: enhancement of catalytic performance by polymer effect

In the asymmetric addition of allyltrichlorosilane to benzaldehyde, polystyrenes with chiral phosphoramide substituents as Lewis base catalysts showed up to 2.4 times better catalytic activity and 1.4 times higher enantioselectivity than the corresponding low-molecular-weight analogues.     

Optical waveguide spectrometer based on thin-film glass plates

Commercially available thin-film glass plates have been successfully used for optical waveguide spectroscopy of chemical and biological films adsorbed upon the plates' surfaces. A 50-mum -thick glass plate was placed in contact with two parallel strips of silicone rubber supported on a slide glass. The plate area between the rubber strips served as the waveguiding region, eliminating the negative effect of the substrate on absorbance sensitivity. We coupled white light into the waveguide by focusing the light from a xenon lamp onto one end of a glass fiber and then inserting the other end into a glycerol drop overlaid upon the plate's surface. With a CCD detector, light at wavelengths as short as 360 nm was found to transmit out of the plate's end face. The propagation loss of the waveguide was measured to be 相似文献   

New structure model for the GaAs(001)-c(4x4) surface

The surface structure of the As-stabilized GaAs(001)-c(4 x 4) surface has been studied. We show that the seemingly established three As-dimer model is incompatible with experimental data and propose here a new structure model which has three Ga-As dimers per c(4 x 4) unit cell. This mixed dimer model, confirmed by the rocking-curve analysis of reflection high-energy electron diffraction and first-principles calculations, resolves disagreements in the interpretation of several previous experiments. A good agreement between the observed scanning tunneling microscopy image and the simulated one further confirms the newly proposed model.     

One-dimensional Kalman filter in a robot system for total analysis of solid dosage formulations

A one-dimensional Kalman filter for peak resolution is applied to a totally automated robot system for liquid chromatographic analysis of solid dosage formulations. Sample solutions were prepared from four tablets of clemastine fumarate (1 mg/tablet) and injected automatically at regular, short intervals onto the column by the robot system. The overlapped peaks in the resulting complicated chromatogram were resolved and evaluated quantitatively by the one-dimensional filter. The peak-resolving powers are shown to be reliable by comparison with a multidimensional Kalman filter. The applicability of the whole analytical system with the linear Kalman filter is discussed.
