Increase in dynamic modulus of nylon 6 fiber in repeated heating and cooling cycles under sinusoidal deformation

The repeated heating and cooling cycles under sinusoidal deformation have been investigated on nylon 6 fibers. The fibers zone-drawn twice at high temperatures were used, which have a crystallinity of 52.2% and a birefringence of 59.4×10^?3. The heating and cooling cycle was performed twice at a frequency of 110 Hz over a temperature range from 0°C to 180°C and 190°C. The crystallinity and birefringence of the treated fiber were 51.7% and 60.7×10^?3, respectively, indicating almost no changes in molecular orientation and crystallinity. However, the dynamic modulus, E′, increased steadily over whole temperature range measured. Finally, the E′ value reached 21 GPa at room temperature and 10 GPa ever at 180°C. The elongation of fiber after two cycles was only about 5%. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Synthesis and characterization of vitamin B12-hyperbranched polymer

Vitamin B₁₂-hyperbranched polymer was synthesized and characterized by UV-vis and NMR spectroscopy as well as DLS. The shape of hybrid polymer was also directly observed by TEM. Microenvironmental polarity around vitamin B₁₂ derivative on the polymer was evaluated by UV-vis absorption peak with α-band of vitamin B₁₂ chromophore.     

Preparation of Cu2ZnSnS4 thin films by hybrid sputtering

In order to fabricate Cu₂ZnSnS₄ thin films, hybrid sputtering system with two sputter sources and two effusion cells is used. The Cu₂ZnSnS₄ films are fabricated by the sequential deposition of metal elements and annealing in S flux, varying the substrate temperature. The Cu₂ZnSnS₄ films with stoichiometric composition are obtained at the substrate temperature up to 400 °C, whereas the film composition becomes quite Zn-pool at the substrate temperature above 450 °C. The Cu₂ZnSnS₄ film shows p-type conductivity, and the optical absorption coefficient and the band gap of the Cu₂ZnSnS₄ film prepared in this experiment are suitable for fabricating a thin film solar cell.     

The structure of the CT complex between 5,7,12,14-tetramethoxydibenzo[b,i]thianthrene with TCNQ

The structure of 1,4-dithiines obtained from orthodihalogeno heterocycles with thiocarbonyl compounds was determined by X-ray structure analysis of the intermolecular charge-transfer complex between 5,7,12,14-tetramethoxydibenzo[b,i]thianthrene and TCNQ. The formation of the thiazole ring has already been reported but the products were confirmed to be 1,4-dithiines by X-ray structure analysis and the previously reported results.     

Mechanism of stigmasterol dealkylation in insect

Deuterated stigmasterols (10, 11 and 12) were chemically synthesized and fed to silk-worm larvae. GC-MS analysis of the metabolites, cholesterol (4) and desmosterol (6), indicates the migration of 25-hydrogen to C-24 position during stigmasterol dealkylation. 22,24(28)-Dienes(8a and 8b) were shown to be converted to 22,24-diene (5), desmosterol and cholesterol.     

Laser Stark spectroscopy of the ν4 band of CH3C15N: Fermi resonance with 3ν83

Laser Stark spectra for the ν₄ band of CH₃C¹⁵N have been measured by using CO₂ and N₂O lasers. Almost 650 resonances have been assigned to about 140 ro-vibrational transitions with J′ ≤ 34 and K ≤ 11. An anomaly of the rotational structure around K = 7 has been proved to be due to a Fermi interaction by analyzing each K subband separately. Observed data have been fitted to a model which includes ν₄-3ν₈³ Fermi coupling by the method of least squares. The standard deviation of observed from calculated frequencies is 4.6 MHz. Molecular constants derived are also listed.     

Regio-controlled hydrogen-deuterium exchange of biologically important indoles under uv irradiation

Photochemical hydrogen-deuterium exchange reaction of biologically important indoles is reported. The regioselectivity of the photodeuteration was found to be controlled by the ammonium group of the side chain.     

Studies on organic fluorine compounds. LIII. Preparation of functionalized trifluoromethylated compounds using 1-phenylsulfonyl-3,3,3-trifluoropropene

Reaction of 1-phenylsulfonul-3,3,3-trifluoropropene(1) with carbonyl-stabilized enolate anions smoothly proceeded to give the addition products(7) in good yield while with an alkyl-lithium or Grignard reagent the formation of the vinyl anion(8) was one of the reaction pathways. Reaction of 1 with the chiral nucleophiles(11, 16) was carried out to give the functionalized trifluoromethylated compounds(13, 7b) in 4-43% ee     

On linear classification procedures between two categories with known mean vectors and covariance matrices

Summary This paper is concerned with probabilities (error probabilities), caused by misclassification, of linear classification procedures (linear procedures) between two categories, whose mean vectors and covariance matrices are assumed to be known, while the distribution of each category may well be continuous or discrete. The tightest upper bounds on the largest of two kinds of error probability of each linear procedure and on the expected error probability for any apriori probabilities are obtained. Moreover in some cases of interest, theoptimal linear procedure (in the sense of attaining the infimum out of all the upper bounds) is given.
