Temperature sensitivity of Ge-B-SiO(2) waveguide Bragg gratings on a crystallized glass substrate

Waveguide Bragg gratings were fabricated by plasma-enhanced chemical-vapor deposition followed by irradiation with KrF excimer laser light through a phase mask. The period of the Bragg grating was 0.53 mum, and the Bragg wavelength was ~1.53 mum . The temperature dependence of the Bragg wavelength was 11 pm/ degrees C for a 10GeO(2) -90SiO(2)(mol.%) core waveguide on a Si substrate, and the Bragg wavelength shift was successfully reduced to 5.0pm/ degrees C by use of a 14GeO(2)-12B(2)O(3)-74SiO(2) (mol.%) core and a crystallized glass substrate with a thermal-expansion coefficient of -2.0x10(-6)(/ degrees C) .     

Resolutions of monomial almost complete intersections and generalizations

Let S=K[x₁,…,x_n] be a polynomial ring over a field kand let / be a monomial ideal of S. The main result of this paper is an explicit minimal resolution of kover R= S/Iwhen / is a monomial almost complete intersection ideal of S. We also compute an upper bound on the multigraded resolution of k over a generalization of monomial almost complete intersection ring.     

Second-harmonic wave induced by vortex beams with radial and azimuthal polarizations

The author investigated second-harmonic (SH) wave patterns generated by focused vortex beams with radial and azimuthal polarizations. Expressions for electric field components near the focus through a dielectric interface were obtained based on vector diffraction theory. Furthermore, the (110) and (001) planes of a crystal classified in the symmetry group 4?3m were considered as second order nonlinear optical medium to analyze nonlinear polarization and the intensity distributions of the SH wave in the far-field were simulated for topological charge m = 1 and 2. Numerical simulations indicated that the intensity and emission pattern of the SH wave depended principally on the electric field component and distribution near the focus. In particular, for the (001) plane, the intensity of the SH wave was strongly correlated with the existence of a longitudinal electric field.     

High-performance optical code generation and recognition by use of a 511-chip, 640-Gchip/s phase-shifted superstructured fiber Bragg grating

The generation and recognition of a record-length 511-chip optical code is experimentally demonstrated by use of a superstructured fiber Bragg grating (SSFBG) with a chip rate of 640 Gchips/s. Very high reflectivity (92%) is achieved with high-quality correlation properties. The temperature deviation tolerance is approximately +/- 0.3 degrees C, which is within the package's temperature stability range (+/- 0.1 degrees C). Experimental results show good agreement with the theory. They indicate the SSFBG's potential for processing a long optical code with an ultrahigh chip rate, which could significantly improve the system's performance.     

Influence of Cu electroplating solutions on boron carbon nitride (BCN) film

Cu electroplating is required for the fabrication of Cu/low-k interconnections. The permeation of a plating solution into low-k films during Cu electroplating is a serious challenge for 45-nm nodes and more complex devices. We investigated the influence of Cu electroplating solutions on boron carbon nitride (BCN) as a low-k film. After dipping it into a Cu electroplating solution that contained additives, the BCN film's hydrophilic surface changed to a hydrophobic surface, and the incorporation of water into the BCN film was suppressed by surfactant adsorption. Sulfuric residue was detected on the BCN sample by thermal desorption spectroscopy after treatment in the Cu electroplating solution with additives; however, it was found through electrical measurements that this solution did not affect the leakage current or the dielectric constant of the BCN film. We successfully fabricated an electroplating Cu layer on a BCN film with good adhesion, and we believe that this BCN film is a sufficiently useful material for Cu/BCN integration in LSI.     

Observation of B(s)(0) → D(s)(*)+ D(s)(*)- using e+ e- collisions and a determination of the B(s)-B(s) width difference ΔΓ(s)

We have made the first observation of B(s)(0)→D(s)(*)+ D(s)(*)- decays using 23.6 fb(-1) of data recorded by the Belle experiment running on the Υ(5S) resonance. The branching fractions are measured to be B(B(s)(0)→D(s)+ D(s)-)=(1.03(-0.32-0.25)(+0.39+0.26))%, B(B(s)(0)→D(s)(*±) D(s)(?))=(2.75(-0.71)(+0.83)±0.69)%, and B(B(s)(0)→D(s)*+ D(s)*-)=(3.08(-1.04-0.86)(+1.22+0.85))%; the sum is B[B(s)(0)→D(s)(*)+ D(s)(*)-]=(6.85(-1.30-1.80)(+1.53+1.79))%. Assuming B(s)(0)→D(s)(*)+ D(s)(*)- saturates decays to CP-even final states, the branching fraction determines the ratio ΔΓ(s)/cosφ, where ΔΓ(s) is the difference in widths between the two B(s)-B(s) mass eigenstates, and φ is a CP-violating weak phase. Taking CP violation to be negligibly small, we obtain ΔΓ(s)/Γ(s)=0.147(-0.030)(+0.036)(stat)(-0.041)(+0.042)(syst), where Γ(s) is the mean decay width.     

Investigation of selective mono-deallylation of O,O'-diallylcatechols and 3-methylene-1,5-benzodioxepanes

Selective mono-deallylation of O,O'-diallylcatechols using 10% Pd/C was investigated to give the correspond-ing allylphenols. A similar reaction of 3-methylene-1,5-benzodioxepanes afforded O-methacryl catecohols. When substrates bearing various substituents on the benzene ring were subjected to the reaction, regioselective cleavage of an ether bond occurred at the side of para position to an electron-withdrawing group on the aromatic ring. On the other hand, an electron-donating group did not cause any selectivity.     

The vibrational spectrum of thionynyl fluoride and its oxygen-18 isotopomer[1]

The vibrational spectrum of thionyl fluoride, SOF₂, has been reinvestigated by means of high resolution infrared and Raman spectroscopy. Substitution of oxygen-16 by oxygen-18 led to a definitive identification of those modes to which sulfur-oxygen motion makes a large contribution. The band structure of the sulfur-oxygen stretching vibration, which is obscured by Fermi resonance with a combination band in S¹⁶OF₂, has been resolved in S¹⁸OF₂. The experimental isotopic splittings are compared with those calculated by previous investigators.     

Application of nanoscale packed capillary liquid chromatography (75 μm id) and capillary zone electrophoresis/electrospray ionization mass spectrometry to the analysis of macrolide antibiotics

Nanoscale separation techniques, nanoscale packed capillary columns (75 μm id), and capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE), on-line with electrospray mass spectrometry (ESI/MS), were applied to the separation of a series of ten macrolide antibiotics. Both techniques use sub-microliter-per-minute flow rates through the analytical column and therefore require an electrospray probe that incorporates coaxial sheath flow. Positive ion electrospray mass spectra of these compounds yielded mainly protonated molecules. Fragmentation to yield structurally significant fragment ions was achieved by collision-induced dissociation (CID) at increased skimmer voltages. Separations were achieved using both techniques, with CZE/ESI/MS showing improved peak shapes and detection limits combined with faster analysis times. Nanoscale packed capillary columns provided better chromatographic resolution and was less susceptible to peak broadening caused by overloading of the analytes.     

Negative ion mass spectra of chlorine-containing molecules

The negative ion mass spectra of chlorine-containing molecules have been measured using a double focusing mass spectrometer with a photographic plate detector. The formulae of the negative ions not previously assigned using an electron multiplier detector have now been assigned.
