Coherent X-ray diffraction imaging of nanoengineered polymeric capsules

For the first time, nanoengineered polymeric capsules and their architecture have been studied with coherent X-ray diffraction imaging technique. The use of coherent X-ray diffraction imaging technique allowed us to analyze the samples immersed in a liquid. We report about the significant difference between polymeric capsule architectures under dry and liquid conditions.

A simple and efficient synthesis of enantiomeric (3aRS,4RS,6aSR)-4-hydroxy-3,3a,4,6a-tetrahydro-1H-cyclopenta[c]furan-1-ones

Diastereomeric amides produced via the cleavage of easily available (±)-7,7-dichloro-4-exo-trimethylsilylbicyclo[3.2.0]hept-2-en-6-one by treatment with (+)-α-methylbenzylamine were transformed into bicyclic lactam-aminals, which can easily be separated by column chromatography on SiO₂. The latter products lead to enantiomeric (3a,6a)-4-hydroxy-3,3a,4,6a-tetrahydro-1H-cyclopenta[c]furan-1-ones after the removal of the chiral auxiliary and epoxidation.     

Homo- and methano[60]fullerenes with chiral attached moieties--1H and 13C NMR chemical shift assignments and diastereotopicity effects

(1)H and (13)C NMR chemical shift predictions of homo- and methano[60]fullerenes containing chiral centers in attached fragment were made using the two-dimensional NMR technique (HH COSY, (1)H-(13)C HSQC and HMBC) and the quantum chemistry GIAO calculation method in the PBE/3ζ approach. The influence of a chiral substituent on the (13)C chemical shifts of diastereotopic fullerene carbons was estimated by comparing the calculated and experimental (13)C NMR spectra. The resonances of the fullerene carbons in α-, β- and δ-positions relative to the position of the substituent exhibit the greatest diastereotopic splitting.
