A linear analysis of the Kelvin–Helmholtz instability of interface between two viscous and magnetic fluids has been carried out where there was heat and mass transfer across the interface while the fluids have been subjected to a constant magnetic field parallel to the streaming direction. The viscous potential flow theory has been used for the investigation. A dispersion relation has been obtained and a stability criterion is given by a critical value of relative velocity as well as the critical value of magnetic field. The resulting plots show the effect of various physical parameters such as wave number, viscosity ratio, ratio of magnetic permeabilities and heat transfer coefficient. It has been observed that heat and mass transfer has a destabilizing effect whereas the horizontal magnetic field stabilizes the system.  相似文献

Twin cup pin-hole dosimeters having LR-115 as the detector were used to measure the concentration of radon and thoron in the dwellings of Firozabad city of Uttar Pradesh State in India. The mean values of radon, thoron, radon progeny and thoron progeny concentrations were found to be 37.4 Bqm?3, 13.7 Bqm?3, 4.0 and 1.5 mWL respectively. The average value of annual effective dose equivalent to the inhabitants of Firozabad city was found to be 1.1 mSv and is below the action level as recommended by the ICRP.  相似文献

The analysis of peptide mixtures from urine and plasma samples using bare (uncapped) SiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) with atmospheric-pressure matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (AP-MALDI-MS) has been reported. The method was based on the adsorption of positively charged peptides on the surface of negatively charged SiO2 NPs through the electrostatic force of attraction. The adsorption on the surface of SiO2 NPs caused enhancement of ionization efficiency of analytes and subsequently increased the signal intensity of peptides. Maximum signal intensity was obtained at optimized concentration of SiO2 NPs and pH of the aqueous solution. The limits of detection (LODs) obtained for different peptides in deionized water with and without using SiO2 NPs were in the range 4.7-360 nM and 0.1-18.0 microM, respectively. The sensitivity of the proposed method was 21-53-fold better than conventional use of AP-MALDI-MS. In addition, linearity in the range 9.5-95 nM was obtained for the peptide angiotensin-II in deionized water with a correlation of estimation of 0.992 using an internal standard. The proposed method provided a simple way to facilitate the ionization of peptides, reduce sample complexity and increase the tolerance to salts and surfactants in the analysis of biological samples. The applicability of the present method was also demonstrated in the real-world sample analysis of aminothiols and lysozyme using MALDI-time-of-flight (TOF)-MS.  相似文献

We describe the development of a fully automatic and programmable microfluidic cell culture array that integrates on-chip generation of drug concentrations and pair-wise combinations with parallel culture of cells for drug candidate screening applications. The device has 64 individually addressable cell culture chambers in which cells can be cultured and exposed either sequentially or simultaneously to 64 pair-wise concentration combinations of two drugs. For sequential exposure, a simple microfluidic diffusive mixer is used to generate different concentrations of drugs from two inputs. For generation of 64 pair-wise combinations from two drug inputs, a novel time dependent variable concentration scheme is used in conjunction with the simple diffusive mixer to generate the desired combinations without the need for complex multi-layer structures or continuous medium perfusion. The generation of drug combinations and exposure to specific cell culture chambers are controlled using a LabVIEW interface capable of automatically running a multi-day drug screening experiment. Our cell array does not require continuous perfusion for keeping cells exposed to concentration gradients, minimizing the amount of drug used per experiment, and cells cultured in the chamber are not exposed to significant shear stress continuously. The utility of this platform is demonstrated for inducing loss of viability of PC3 prostate cancer cells using combinations of either doxorubicin or mitoxantrone with TRAIL (TNF-alpha Related Apoptosis Inducing Ligand) either in a sequential or simultaneous format. Our results demonstrate that the device can capture the synergy between different sensitizer drugs and TRAIL and demonstrate the potential of the microfluidic cell array for screening and optimizing combinatorial drug treatments for cancer therapy.  相似文献

A readily available pincer ruthenium(II) complex catalyzes the selective monoalkylation of (hetero)aromatic amines with a wide range of primary alcohols (including pyridine-, furan-, and thiophene-substituted alcohols) with high efficiency when used in low catalyst loadings (1 mol %). Tertiary amine formation via polyalkylation does not occur, making this ruthenium system an excellent catalyst for the synthesis of sec-amines.  相似文献

Soil minerals study is vital in terms of investigating the major soil forming compounds and to find out the fate of minor and trace elements, essential for the soil–plant interaction purpose. X-ray diffraction (XRD) has been a popular technique to search out the phases for different types of samples. For the soil samples, however, employing XRD is not so straightforward due to many practical problems. In the current approach, principal component analysis (PCA) has been used to have an idea of the minerals present, in qualitative manner, in the soil under study. PCA was used on the elemental concentrations data of 17 elements, determined by the energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) technique. XRD analysis of soil samples has been done also to identify the minerals of major elements. Some prior treatments, like removal of silica by polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) slurry and grinding with alcohol, were given to samples to overcome the peak overlapping problems and to attain fine particle size which is important to minimize micro-absorption corrections, to give reproducible peak intensities and to minimize preferred orientation. A 2θ step of 0.05°/min and a longer dwell time than normal were used to reduce interferences from background noise and to increase the counting statistics. Finally, the sequential extraction procedure for metal speciation study has been applied on soil samples. Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) was used to find the concentrations of metal fractions bound to various forms. Applying all the three probes, the minerals in the soils can be studied and identified, successfully.  相似文献

The commonly used Lorentzian form of the Raman response function for studying propagation of ultrashort pulses in silica fibers does not properly account for the shoulder in the Raman gain spectrum originating from the Boson peak. We propose a more accurate form of this response function and show that its predictions for the Raman-induced frequency shift should be in better agreement with experiments.  相似文献

The reaction dynamics of vibrationally excited vinyl bromide have been investigated using classical trajectory methods on a neural network potential surface that is fitted to an ab initio database of 12 122 configuration energies obtained from electronic structure calculations conducted at the MP4(SDQ) level of theory using a 6-31G(d,p) basis set for the carbon and hydrogen atoms and Huzinaga's (43334334) basis set augmented with split outer s and p orbitals (4332143214) and a polarization f orbital with an exponent of 0.5 for the bromine atom. The sampling of the 12-dimensional configuration hyperspace of vinyl bromide prior to execution of the electronic structure calculations is accomplished by combining novelty-sampling methods, chemical intuition, and trajectory sampling on empirical and neural network surfaces. The final potential is obtained using a two-layer feed-forward neural network comprising 38 and 1 neurons, respectively, with hyperbolic tangent sigmoid and linear transfer functions in the hidden and output layers, respectively. The fitting is accomplished using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm with early stopping and Bayesian regularization methods to avoid overfitting. The interpolated potentials have a standard deviation from the ab initio results of 0.0578 eV, which is within the range generally regarded as "chemical accuracy" for the purposes of electronic structure calculations. It is shown that the potential surface may be easily and conveniently transferred from one research group to another. The files required for transfer of the vinyl bromide surface can be obtained from the Electronic Physics Auxiliary Publication Service. Total dissociation rate coefficients for vinyl bromide are obtained at five different excitation energies between 4.50 and 6.44 eV. Branching ratios into each of the six open reaction channels are computed at 24 vibrational energies in the range between 4.00 and 6.44 eV. The distribution of vibrational energies in HBr formed via three-center dissociation from vinyl bromide is determined and compared with previous theoretical and experimental results. It is concluded that the combination of ab initio electronic structure calculations, novelty sampling with chemical intuition and trajectories on empirical analytic surfaces, and feed-forward neural networks provides a viable framework in which to execute purely ab initio molecular-dynamics studies on complex systems with multiple open reaction channels.  相似文献
