Unsteady state heat flow in epidermis and dermis of a human body

We investigate the unsteady state temperature distribution in human skin where subcutaneous tissues are not present. The mathematical model is employed for a onedimensional unsteady state case, taking the blood mass flow rate and metabolic heat generation variable with respect to the position in the dermis. The metabolic heat generation depends on the tissue temperature. The thermal conductivity is taken constant but different in two layers. The problem has been solved using Laplace transform and Bessel functions. Numerical results for a simple case are discussed.

Characterizations of Null Holomorphic Sectional Curvature of G C R-Lightlike Submanifolds of Indefinite Nearly K ¨ahler Manifolds

We obtain the expressions for sectional curvature, holomorphic sectional curvature and holomorphic bisectional curvature of a GCR-lightlike submanifold of an indefinite nearly K ¨ahler manifold and obtain characterization theorems for holo-morphic sectional and holomorphic bisectional curvature. We also establish a condi-tion for a GCR-lightlike submanifold of an indefinite complex space form to be a null holomorphically flat.     

Excess volume of mixing of some electron-donating hydrocarbons with an electron-accepting liquid 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene

The excess volume of mixing of some electron-donating aromatic hydrocarbons like benzene, toluene,p-xylene, and mesitylene with an electronaccepting liquid 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene have been measured at 30°C. The results indicate that the interaction between the components increases as the electron-donating power of the hydrocarbons increases. The V _m ^e values are related to the ionization potentials of the hydrocarbons.

Deciphering the molecular details for the binding of the prion protein to main ganglioside GM1 of neuronal membranes

The prion protein (PrP) resides in lipid rafts in?vivo, and lipids modulate misfolding of the protein to infectious isoforms. Here we demonstrate that binding of recombinant PrP to model raft membranes requires the presence of ganglioside GM1. A combination of liquid- and solid-state NMR revealed the binding sites of PrP to the saccharide head group of GM1. The binding epitope for GM1 was mapped to the folded C-terminal domain of PrP, and docking simulations identified key residues in the C-terminal region of helix C and the loop between strand S2 and helix B. Crucially, this region of PrP is linked to prion resistance in?vivo, and structural changes caused by lipid binding in this region may explain the requirement for lipids in the generation of infectious prions in?vitro.     

Synthesis,crystal structure and optical properties of quasi-one-dimensional lead (II) iodide: C14H18N2Pb2I6

Quasi-one-dimensional lead (II) iodide compound, C₁₄H₁₈N₂Pb₂I₆, with unique crystal structure was synthesized and solved for the crystal structure. These novel inorganic-organic hybrids have high thermal stability of upto 300 °C and show excitonic and charge-transfer features in their optical properties. An attempt has been made to understand the structural and optical mechanisms between inorganic one-dimensional polymeric PbI nano ribbons and the guest organic moiety for future applications in nanoscaled electronic devices.     

Adsorption Equilibrium and Kinetics of Egg-White Proteins on Immobilized Metal Ion Affinity Gels for Designing Fractionation

Designing an Immobilized Metal ion Affinity (IMA) chromatographic process on large scale demands a thorough understanding to be developed regarding the adsorption behaviour of proteins on metal loaded IMA (IMA-M(II)) gels and the characteristic adsorption parameters to be evaluated. This research investigation illustrates the significance of these aspects for the proposed fractionation of chicken egg-white proteins on these gels. Consequently, a systematic investigation of the adsorption characteristics of three chicken egg-white proteins viz., ovalbumin, conalbumin and lysozyme on Cu(II) and Ni(II) loaded IMA gels, iminodiacetate (IDA) and tris(2-aminoethyl)amine (TREN), has been undertaken. These gels differ in their selectivity towards the proteins of interest under the identical sets of experimental conditions. While TREN-Ni(II) was selective only for lysozyme, IDA-Cu(II), IDA-Ni(II) and TREN-Cu(II) showed varying affinities for all the three proteins. The equilibrium and kinetic data were analysed using various theoretical models and adsorption parameters were quantified. On the basis of these investigations, various strategies have been proposed for the efficient large-scale fractionation of chicken egg-white proteins on these gels.     

A silicon-position dependent 6-endo-trig cyclization during Tsuji–Trost alkylation

Two silylated cyclohexenes products have been prepared by using a Tsuji–Trost palladium-catalyzed cyclization. It involves the generation of a cationic π-allylic palladium complex bearing a triethylsilyl group on C-3, which cyclizes via a 6-endo-trig process to afford the cyclohexene derivatives. It is also demonstrated that the position of the silyl group on the starting allylic substrate strongly influenced the reaction. It could favor either the production of the expected cyclohexenyl ring or a diene by an elimination that occurs on the silyl-substituted C-2 π-allylic palladium complex.
