The dispersion properties of high- and low-frequency electrostatic oscillations of a spherical metallic plasma consisting of hot electrons and cold ions are investigated. The main interest and the key first applications of this system are the spherical metal nanoparticles. General expressions of dispersion relations are obtained for the so-called surface and bulk plasmon waves, and surface and bulk ion-acoustic waves in spherical geometry, using hydrodynamic equations and Poisson equation with appropriate boundary conditions. Numerical results show that dispersion effects become large for metallic particles of small radii, particularly in the range of few nanometers.  相似文献

Propagation of surface plasmon–polariton modes in metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes is investigated within the framework of the classical electrodynamics. Electronic excitations on the nanotube's surface are modeled by an infinitesimally thin layer of free-electron gas which is described by means of the linearized hydrodynamic theory. General expression of surface modes dispersion is obtained by solving Maxwell and hydrodynamic equations with appropriate boundary conditions. It is shown that the system generally disallows the separation of the transverse electric (TE) modes and transverse magnetic (TM) modes, except for the case of modes with no angular dependence.  相似文献

This article reports the reduction of methylene blue (MB) by sulfide ions (S2−) in aqueous solution by a nanoAlMCM-41 catalyst. The results obtained showed that, under acidic conditions (pH=2) MB was reduced to the Leuco methylene blue (LMB) form by sulfide ions and by changing the pH between 2.0 and 7.0 a reduction of the MB dye to the MBH2+ form was observed. In alkaline media (pH=8), a reduction of methylene blue by sulfide ions to the MBH2+ form and demethylation of the dye was observed simultaneously. The demethylation of MB leads to a thionine dye product. Using nanoAlMCM-41 but with encapsulated CoS nanoparticles only causes demethylation of MB in aqueous solution.  相似文献

An investigation on the time-dependent chemical degradation of ethylene-propylene diene rubber containing 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene as diene cured by peroxide crosslinking in the presence of a coagent in an acidic environment (20% Cr/H2SO4) has been made. Two types of rubber, with comparable monomer composition, but having significant differences in molar mass and levels of long chain branching were tested. Dicumyl peroxide and triallylcyanurate under similar conditions were used for curing the rubbers. The molecular mechanisms of chemical degradation at the surface were studied using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, which demonstrate that several oxygenated species evolve during exposure. The primary process of degradation is hydrolytic attack on the crosslink sites, which is manifested by a decrease in crosslink density. The surface degradation is found to be strong enough to alter the bulk mechanical properties as observed by the change in retention in tensile strength, elongation at break, modulus at 50% elongation and, the change in micro-hardness. Retention in modulus at 50% elongation is found to follow a negative linear correlation with decrease in crosslink density. With higher molar mass and level of long chain branching more crosslinking occurs and thus comparatively more hydrolytic attack ensues. Scanning electron microscopy shows that the surface topography is significantly altered upon exposure and supports the notion of the dependence of degradation on the crosslinking density of the samples. Importantly, the coagent used in this study is shown to enhance the chemical degradation through formation of weaker sites for hydrolysis. The results also show that upon prolonged exposure the resulting oxygenated species tend to combine with each other.  相似文献

In this paper the thermal conductivity of the Lennard-Jones fluid is calculated by applying the combination of the density-fluctuation theory, the modified free volume theory of diffusion, and the generic van der Waals equation of state. A Monte Carlo simulation method is used to compute the equilibrium pair-correlation function necessary for computing the mean free volume and the coefficient in the potential-energy and virial contributions to the thermal conductivity. The theoretical results are compared with our own molecular dynamics simulation results and with those reported in the literature. They agree in good accuracy over wide ranges of density and temperature examined in molecular dynamics simulations. Thus the combined theory represents a molecular theory of thermal conductivity of the Lennard-Jones fluid and by extension simple fluids, which enables us to compute the nonequilibrium quantity by means of the Monte Carlo simulations for the equilibrium pair-correlation function.  相似文献

Time-resolved contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (CE-MRA) provides contrast dynamics in the vasculature and allows vessel segmentation based on temporal correlation analysis. Here we present an automated vessel segmentation algorithm including automated generation of regions of interest (ROIs), cross-correlation and pooled sample covariance matrix analysis. The dynamic images are divided into multiple equal-sized regions. In each region, ROIs for artery, vein and background are generated using an iterative thresholding algorithm based on the contrast arrival time map and contrast enhancement map. Region-specific multi-feature cross-correlation analysis and pooled covariance matrix analysis are performed to calculate the Mahalanobis distances (MDs), which are used to automatically separate arteries from veins. This segmentation algorithm is applied to a dual-phase dynamic imaging acquisition scheme where low-resolution time-resolved images are acquired during the dynamic phase followed by high-frequency data acquisition at the steady-state phase. The segmented low-resolution arterial and venous images are then combined with the high-frequency data in k-space and inverse Fourier transformed to form the final segmented arterial and venous images. Results from volunteer and patient studies demonstrate the advantages of this automated vessel segmentation and dual phase data acquisition technique.  相似文献

A matching algorithm based on self-organizing map (SOM) neural network is proposed for tracking rod-like particles in 2D optical measurements of dispersed two-phase flows. It is verified by both synthetic images of elongated particles mimicking 2D suspension flows and direct numerical simulations-based results of prolate particles dispersed in a turbulent channel flow. Furthermore, the potential benefit of this algorithm is evaluated by applying it to the experimental data of rod-like fibers tracking in wall turbulence. The study of the behavior of elongated particles suspended in turbulent flows has a practical importance and covers a wide range of applications in engineering and science. In experimental approach, particle tracking velocimetry of the dispersed phase has a key role together with particle image velocimetry of the carrier phase to obtain the velocities of both phases. The essential parts of particle tracking are to identify and match corresponding particles correctly in consecutive images. The present study is focused on the development of an algorithm for pairing non-spherical particles that have one major symmetry axis. The novel idea in the algorithm is to take the orientation of the particles into account for matching in addition to their positions. The method used is based on the SOM neural network that finds the most likely matching link in images on the basis of feature extraction and clustering. The fundamental concept is finding corresponding particles in the images with the nearest characteristics: position and orientation. The most effective aspect of this two-frame matching algorithm is that it does not require any preliminary knowledge of neither the flow field nor the particle behavior. Furthermore, using one additional characteristic of the non-spherical particles, namely their orientation, in addition to its coordinate vector, the pairing is improved both for more reliable matching at higher concentrations of dispersed particles and for higher robustness against loss of particle pairs between image frames.  相似文献

In the present study, the static response of cylindrical sandwich panels with a flexible core is investigated. The face sheets are considered as composite laminates with a cross-ply lay-up and the core as a flexible elastic medium. The flexibility of the low-strength core leads to high stress concentrations in terms of peeling stresses between the face sheets and the core at edges of the sandwich panel. To take into account the compressibility of the core and to determine the free-edge stresses of sandwich structures accurately, the Reddy layerwise theory (LWT) is used in this paper. The paper outlines the mathematical formulation, along with a numerical study, of a cylindrical sandwich panel with two simply supported and two free edges under a transverse load. The formulation includes the derivation of field equations along with boundary conditions. A Levy-type solution procedure is performed to determine the distributions of stresses and strains. In the numerical study, first a comparison is made with results from the commercial finite-element software ANSYS to verify the LWT results. Finally, a parametric study is conducted, and the effect caused by varying different parameters, such as the radii of curvature and the core to face sheet thickness ratio, on the results are investigated. The results obtained demonstrate a good agreement between LWT and FEM solutions and show increasing interlaminar stresses in the free edge of the sandwich panel  相似文献
