The phase behaviour ofl-α-phosphatidylcholine liposomes has been studied as a function of temperature, pH, ionic strength, etc., in the presence and absence of chlorpromazine by a polarization method using 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene as a fluorescence probe. The gel crystalline to liquid crystalline (Tc), liquid crystalline to cubic (TII), and cubic to hexagonal (HII) transition temperatures in multilayer liposomes have been detected, and are found to be affected by chlorpromazine under different experimental conditions.  相似文献

Photocatalytic oxidation of nucleic acid components on aqueous metal oxides (TiO(2), α-FeOOH, and α-Fe(2)O(3)) has been studied. The oxidation of purine nucleotides results in the formation of the purine radical cations and sugar-phosphate radicals, whereas the oxidation of pyrimidine nucleotides other than thymine results in the oxidation of only the sugar-phosphate. The oxidation of the thymine (and to a far less extent for the 5-methylcytosine) derivatives results in deprotonation from the methyl group of the base. Some single stranded (ss) oligoribonucleotides and wild-type ss RNA were oxidized at purine sites. In contrast, double stranded (ds) oligoribonucleotides and DNA were not oxidized. These results account for observations suggesting that cellular ds DNA is not damaged by exposure to photoirradiated TiO(2) nanoparticles inserted into the cell, whereas ss RNA is extensively damaged. The astrobiological import of our observations is that the rapid degradation of monomer nucleotides make them poor targets as biosignatures, whereas duplex DNA is a better target as it is resilient to oxidative diagenesis. Another import of our studies is that ds DNA (as opposed to ss RNA) appears to be optimized to withstand oxidative stress both due to the advantageous polymer morphology and the subtle details of its radical chemistry. This peculiarity may account for the preference for DNA over RNA as a "molecule of life" provided that metal oxides served as the template for synthesis of polynucleotides, as suggested by Orgel and others.  相似文献

Excited states of one-electron-oxidized guanine in DNA are known to induce hole transfer to the sugar moiety and on deprotonation result in neutral sugar radicals that are precursors of DNA strand breaks. This work carried out in a homogeneous aqueous glass (7.5 M LiCl) at low temperatures (77-175 K) shows the extent of photoconversion of one-electron-oxidized guanine and the associated yields of individual sugar radicals are crucially controlled by the photon energy, protonation state, and strandedness of the oligomer. In addition to sugar radical formation, highly oxidizing excited states of one-electron-oxidized guanine are produced with 405 nm light at pH 5 and below that are able to oxidize chloride ion in the surrounding solution to form Cl(2)(?-) via an excited-state hole transfer process. Among the various DNA model systems studied in this work, the maximum amount of Cl(2)(?-) is produced with ds (double-stranded) DNA, where the one-electron-oxidized guanine exists in its cation radical form (G(?+):C). Thus, via excited-state hole transfer, the dsDNA is apparently able to protect itself from cation radical excited states by transfer of damage to the surrounding environment.  相似文献

The integrated fluorescence of murine eyes is collected as a function of age. This fluorescence is attributed to pigments generally referred to as lipofuscin and is observed to increase with age. No difference in fluorescence intensity is observed between the eyes of males or females. This work provides a benchmark for further studies that are planned in order to use such signatures as markers of central nervous system (CNS) tissue or even of diseased CNS tissue and provides a basis for determining the age of a healthy animal.  相似文献

An analytical approach is developed for areas of nonlinear science such as the nonlinear free vibration of a conservative, two-degree-of-freedom mass–spring system having linear and nonlinear stiffnesses. The main contribution of this research is twofold. First, it introduces the transformation of two nonlinear differential equations for a two-mass system using suitable intermediate variables into a single nonlinear differential equation and, more significantly, the treatment of a nonlinear differential system by linearization coupled with Newton’s method. Secondly, the major section is the solving of the governing nonlinear differential equation where the displacement of the two-mass system can be obtained directly from the linear second-order differential equation using a first-order variational approach. The aforementioned approach proposed by J.H. He, who actually developed the method, is exactly He’s variational method. This approach is an explicit method with high validity for resolving strong nonlinear oscillation system problems. Two examples of nonlinear two-degree-of-freedom mass–spring systems are analyzed, and verified with published results and exact solutions. The method can be easily extended to other nonlinear oscillations and so could be widely applicable in engineering and science.  相似文献

A whole range of Robson-type tetraiminodiphenol macrocyclic ligands have been prepared as their perchlorate salts [H4L](ClO4)2 in high yield (ca. 90%) by a single-step [2 + 2] condensation reaction between 4-methyl(or tert-butyl)-2,6-diformyl(or diacyl)phenols and alpha,omega-diaminoalkanes (C2-C12) in the presence of acetic acid and NaClO4. The reduction of these 18- to 38-membered macrocyclic salts with NaBH4 have afforded corresponding tetraaminodiphenol macrocycles H2L'. The X-ray crystal structures of two of the tetraiminodiphenol macrocycles with the C2 and C4 lateral chains have been determined, and the optimized configurations for all of the macrocycles have been obtained by molecular mechanics calculations. The macrocycles have been characterized by elemental analysis and by IR, absorption, emission, and NMR spectroscopic study. The protonated tetraiminodiphenol macrocycles exhibit strong fluoroscence in methanol, acetonitrile, and nitromethane and undergo quenching when treated with triethylamine. The neutral macrocycles H2L, isolated by treating [H4L](ClO4)2 with excess of triethylamine, lack luminescence, as do the reduced tetraaminodiphenol macrocycles H2L'. The hydrolytic cleavage of [H4L](ClO4)2 has been studied.  相似文献

A new complex, {[CuL(μ1,5-dca)(dca)]}n (1), has been synthesized from the reaction of Cu(NO3)2 · 3H2O, N,N-diethyl-1,2-ethanediamine (L) and sodium dicyanamide (Nadca) in aqueous medium. Single crystal X-ray analysis reveals that the complex has a 1D infinite zigzag chain structure in which copper(II) ions are bridged by single dicyanamide ligands in an end-to-end fashion. The chains propagate parallel to the crystallographic b-axis and they are stacked one upon another along the c-axis. The coordination environment of the copper(II) centers are distorted square-pyramidal. Of the four coordination sites of the basal plane of the square-pyramid, two are occupied by the nitrogen atoms of the diamine and the remaining two sites are occupied by the terminal nitrogen atoms of the bridging dca groups. One terminal nitrogen atom of a monodentate dca group occupies the apical position of the coordinated polyhedra. [CuL(dca)] units are then connected to each other through a μ1,5-dca bridge to form 1D chains. The variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements evidenced weakly antiferromagnetic interactions (J = −0.35 cm−1) in {[CuL(μ1,5-dca)(dca)]}n (1).  相似文献

A series of silver(I) and gold(I) carbene complexes of the type [M(L)(2,2′-bipyridine)][PF6] (L = 1-benzyl-3-(2-pyridylmethyl)benzimidazolylidene; M = Ag ( 1 ); M = Au ( 3 )) and [M(L)(carbazole)] (M = Ag ( 2 ); M = Au ( 4 )) were synthesized and analyzed using a range of spectroscopic and crystallographic techniques. Inspection of the solid-state structures of 1 , 2 and 4 revealed a number of intermolecular noncovalent interactions. In the solid-state structure adopted by 1 , π–π and Ag–Ag interactions directed the complexes to orient in a head-to-tail fashion. The photophysical properties were found to be influenced by the ancillary ligands in solution as well as in the solid-state. Calculations were performed to support the aforementioned structural and optoelectronic assignments.  相似文献
