Specifics of scattering of nonrelativistic electrons in nanosized films

The specifics of energy exchange by nonrelativistic electrons (electron energy of ∼10²–10³ eV) during their travelling through a dielectric layer have been studied depending on the thickness of the layer applied on substrates with different parameters. Electron travelling across a dielectric (pyrene) layer with a thickness of up to 10 nm deposited on a metal (bismuth) mirror is accompanied by the following effects dependent on the dielectric-layer thickness and the electric parameters of the boundary: a nonmonotonic change in the pyrene luminescence intensity and variation in secondary electron emission.     

New Phosphides with Transition and Rare-Earth Metals and Their Crystal Structures

Abstract

The interaction between components in systems M-M′- P (M -Zr, Hf, Nb, Mo, W, Mn, Re; M′-V, Cr, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu), Ln-{Fe, Co, Ni, Cu}-P (Ln-rare-earth metals) and M-{Si, B}-P (M-Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Re, Co, Ni, Cu) have been investigated and isotermal sections for 47 ternary systems have been built. 98 new phosphides have been synthesized and the crystal structure for 76 has been determined. The structures of new compounds belong to the known structure types, such as MgCu₂, Mg₆ Cu₁₆ Si₇, TiNiSi, Zr₂ Fe₁₂P₇, Hf₂ CO₄ P₃, CeAl₂ Ga₂, ZrFe₄Si₂, Nb₄ CoSi, Mo₅ SiB₂, MgZn₂, HfCuSi₂. The structures of several phosphides represent the new types: Nb₂P, α-Ni₈P₃, Zr₂Ni_l-xP, Tb,_1?xNiP, SmNi₄P₂, Nd₃Ni₇P₅, Ni₃,₃₆Si₁,₇₆P₆, Mo₂Ni₆P₃, Re_0,6, Ni_0,4P · The obtained experimental data allowed us to make the following conclusions:     

Hydrolysis constants of tervalent lanthanum and lanthanide ions in 0.1 M KNO3 solution

The hydrolysis constants K _h of tervalent lanthanum and lanthanide ions at 25°C have been determined by pH titration against the background of 0.1 M KNO₃. pK _h values change monotonically from 8.53 for La(OH)²⁺ to 7.41 for Lu(OH)²⁺ and from 26.56 for La(OH)₃ to 21.43 for Lu(OH)₃.     

Characteristics of a nanosecond discharge in atmospheric air with a liquid electrolytic electrode

The spatial, electric, and radiative characteristics of a pulse-periodic nanosecond discharge between an electrode based on a system of blades and the distilled water surface as well as an aqueous solution of zinc sulfate in atmospheric air are considered.
