The results of our earlier work [C. Brooksby, O. V. Prezhdo, and P. J. Reid, J. Chem. Phys. 119, 9111 (2003)] rationalizing the surprisingly weak solvent dependence of the dynamics following photoexcitation of chlorine dioxide in water, chloroform, and cyclohexane are thoroughly tested. Comparisons are made between equilibrium and nonequilibrium solvent response, equilibrium response in the ground and excited electronic states, as well as the cumulant and direct evaluation of the optical response function. In general, the linear response and cumulant approximations are found to hold, although minor deviations are found with all solvents. The ground state, linear response, and cumulant data show best agreement with experiment, most likely due to the better tested ground-state force field and the robust behavior of the linear response and cumulant approximations. The main conclusion of our earlier work explaining the weak solvent dependence by the domination of the van der Waals interaction component remains intact within the more advanced treatments. However, the molecular origin of this surprising experimental observation is different in water and chloroform compared to cyclohexane.  相似文献

High-speed temperature programming is implemented via the direct resistive heating of the separation column (2.3m MXT-5 Silicosteel column with a 180 microm I.D. and a 0.4 microm 5% phenyl/95% dimethyl polysiloxane film). Resistive temperature programming was coupled with synchronized dual-valve injection (with an injection pulse width of 2 ms), producing a complete high-speed gas chromatography (GC) system. A comparison of isothermal and temperature programmed separations of seven n-alkanes (C(6) and C(8)-C(13)) shows a substantial improvement of peak width and peak capacity with temperature programming. The system was further implemented in separations of a mixture of analytes from various chemical classes. Separations of the n-alkane mixture using three different temperature programming rates are reported. A temperature programming rate as high as 240 degrees C/s is demonstrated. The method for determination of temperature programming rate, based on isothermal data, is discussed. The high-speed resistive column heating temperature programming resulted in highly reproducible separations. The highest rate of temperature programming (240 degrees C/s) resulted in retention time and peak width RSD, on average, of 0.5 and 1.4%, respectively, for the n-alkane mixture. This high level of precision was achieved with peak widths-at-half-height ranging from 13 to 36 ms, and retention times ranging from 147 to 444 ms (for n-hexane to n-tridecane).  相似文献

Capillary liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization to a quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer was explored as a method for the analysis of polar anionic compounds in complex metabolome mixtures. A ternary mobile phase gradient, consisting of aqueous acidic, aqueous neutral and organic phases in combination with an aqueous compatible reversed-phase stationary phase allowed metabolites with a wide range of polarities to be resolved and detected. Detection limits in the full scan mode for glycolysis and tricarboxylic acid cycle intermediates were from 0.9 to 36fmol. Using this system, 111+/-9 (n=3) metabolites were detected in Escherichia coli lysate samples. Reducing column I.D. from 50 to 25microm increased the number of metabolites detected to 156+/-17 (n=3). The improvement in number of metabolites detected was attributed to an increase in separation efficiency, an increase in sensitivity, and a decrease in adduct formation. Implementation of a second separation mode, strong anion exchange, to fractionate the sample prior to capillary RPLC increased the number of metabolites detected to 244+/-21 (n=3). This improvement was attributed to the increased peak capacity which decreased co-elution of molecules enabling more sensitive detection by mass spectrometry. This system was also applied to islets of Langerhans where more significant improvements in metabolite detection were observed. In islets, 391+/-33 small molecules were detected using the two-dimensional separation. The results demonstrate that column miniaturization and use of two-dimensional separations can yield a significant improvement in the coverage of the metabolome.  相似文献

Numerous relationships between noise exposure and transportation noise-induced annoyance have been inferred by curve-fitting methods. The present paper develops a different approach. It derives a systematic relationship by applying an a priori, first-principles model to the findings of forty three studies of the annoyance of aviation noise. The rate of change of annoyance with day-night average sound level (DNL) due to aircraft noise exposure was found to closely resemble the rate of change of loudness with sound level. The agreement of model predictions with the findings of recent curve-fitting exercises (cf. Miedma and Vos, 1998) is noteworthy, considering that other analyses have relied on different analytic methods and disparate data sets. Even though annoyance prevalence rates within individual communities consistently grow in proportion to duration-adjusted loudness, variability in annoyance prevalence rates across communities remains great. The present analyses demonstrate that 1) community-specific differences in annoyance prevalence rates can be plausibly attributed to the joint effect of acoustic and non-DNL related factors and (2) a simple model can account for the aggregate influences of non-DNL related factors on annoyance prevalence rates in different communities in terms of a single parameter expressed in DNL units-a "community tolerance level."  相似文献

The hybrid dibismuthines O(CH(2)CH(2)BiPh(2))(2) and MeN(CH(2)-2-C(6)H(4)BiPh(2))(2) react with [M(CO)(5)(thf)] (M = Cr or W) to form [{M(CO)(5)}(2){O(CH(2)CH(2)BiPh(2))(2)}] and [{Cr(CO)(5)}(2){MeN(CH(2)-2-C(6)H(4)BiPh(2))(2)}] containing bridging bidentate (Bi(2)) coordination. The unsymmetrical tertiary bismuthine complexes [M(CO)(5){BiPh(2)(o-C(6)H(4)OMe)}] are also described. Depending upon the molar ratio, the hybrid distibines O(CH(2)CH(2)SbMe(2))(2) and MeN(CH(2)-2-C(6)H(4)SbMe(2))(2) react with [M(CO)(5)(thf)] to give the pentacarbonyl complexes [{M(CO)(5)}(2){O(CH(2)CH(2)SbMe(2))(2)}] and [{Cr(CO)(5)}(2){MeN(CH(2)-2-C(6)H(4)SbMe(2))(2)}] or tetracarbonyls cis-[M(CO)(4){O(CH(2)CH(2)SbMe(2))(2)}] and cis-[M(CO)(4){MeN(CH(2)-2-C(6)H(4)SbMe(2))(2)}]. The latter can also be obtained from [Cr(CO)(4)(nbd)] or [W(CO)(4)(pip)(2)], and contain chelating bidentates (Sb(2)-coordinated) as determined crystallographically. S(CH(2)-2-C(6)H(4)SbMe(2))(2) coordinates as a tridentate (SSb(2)) in fac-[M(CO)(3){S(CH(2)-2-C(6)H(4)SbMe(2))(2)}] (M = Cr or Mo) and fac-[Mn(CO)(3){S(CH(2)-2-C(6)H(4)SbMe(2))(2)}][CF(3)SO(3)]. Fac-[Mn(CO)(3){MeN(CH(2)-2-C(6)H(4)SbMe(2))(2)}][CF(3)SO(3)] contains NSb(2)-coordinated ligand in the solid state, but in solution a second species, Sb(2)-coordinated and with a κ(1)-CF(3)SO(3) replacing the coordinated amine is also evident. X-ray crystal structures were also determined for fac-[Cr(CO)(3){S(CH(2)-2-C(6)H(4)SbMe(2))(2)}], fac-[Mn(CO)(3){S(CH(2)-2-C(6)H(4)SbMe(2))(2)}][CF(3)SO(3)] and fac-[Mn(CO)(3){MeN(CH(2)-2-C(6)H(4)SbMe(2))(2)}] [CF(3)SO(3)]. Hypervalent N···Sb interactions are present in cis-[M(CO)(4){MeN(CH(2)-2-C(6)H(4)SbMe(2))(2)}] (M = Mo or W), but absent for M = Cr.  相似文献

This paper compares different buffer systems for the electrophoretic separation of the five most abundant serum proteins on native-PAGE gel and cellulose membranes. A modified Tris-tricine system was shown to be superior for the separation of these serum proteins in a 7% m/v native-PAGE gel as compared with the traditionally used Tris-glycine and Tris-tricine methods. This modified Tris-tricine buffer system was also employed for the separation of serum proteins using a cellulose acetate membrane and very effective separation was observed as compared with the traditionally used Tris-barbital and Tris-glycine buffer systems.  相似文献

Solid state 13C-NMR spectra of pure tannin powders from four different sources--mimosa, quebracho, chestnut and tara--are readily distinguishable from each other, both in pure commercial powder form, and in leather which they have been used to tan. Groups of signals indicative of the source, and type (condensed vs. hydrolyzable) of tannin used in the manufacture are well resolved in the spectra of the finished leathers. These fingerprints are compared with those arising from leathers tanned with other common tanning agents. Paramagnetic chromium (III) tanning causes widespread but selective disappearance of signals from the spectrum of leather collagen, including resonances from acidic aspartyl and glutamyl residues, likely bound to Cr (III) structures. Aluminium (III) and glutaraldehyde tanning both cause considerable leather collagen signal sharpening suggesting some increase in molecular structural ordering. The 2?Al-NMR signal from the former material is consistent with an octahedral coordination by oxygen ligands. Solid state NMR thus provides easily recognisable reagent specific spectral fingerprints of the products of vegetable and some other common tanning processes. Because spectra are related to molecular properties, NMR is potentially a powerful tool in leather process enhancement and quality or provenance assurance.  相似文献

The morphology of bi-phase aerosol particles containing phase separated hydrophobic and hydrophilic components is considered, comparing simulations based on surface and interfacial tensions with measurements made by aerosol optical tweezers. The competition between the liquid phases adopting core-shell and partially engulfed configurations is considered for a range of organic compounds including saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons, aromatics, alcohols, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters and amines. When the solubility of the organic component and the salting-out of the organic component to the surface by the presence of concentrated inorganic solutes in the aqueous phase are considered, it is concluded that the adoption of a partially engulfed structure predominates, with the organic component forming a surface lens. The aqueous surface can be assumed to be stabilised by a surface enriched in the organic component. The existence of acid-base equilibria can lead to the dissociation of organic surfactants and to significant lowering of the surface tension of the aqueous phase, further supporting the predominance of partially engulfed structures. Trends in morphology from experimental measurements and simulations are compared for mixed phased droplets in which the organic component is decane, 1-octanol or oleic acid with varying relative humidity. The consequences of partially engulfed structures for aerosol properties are considered.  相似文献

Current phase-shift cavity ring-down spectroscopy (PS-CRDS) experiments make use of equations originally developed for fluorescence studies. As these equations fail to take the length of the optical cavity and the superposition of reflecting beams into account, they lose validity as the length of the cavity increases. A new set of equations, based solely on the principles of PS-CRDS, is developed for determining the ring-down time from either the phase shift or the intensity of the waveform exiting the cavity. It is shown that the PS-CRDS equations reduce to those developed for fluorescence study for short cavities. The new equations provide a more accurate method in determining the characteristic ring-down time and phase shift for long cavities, especially fiber optic cavities, which is promising in on-site chemical sensing.  相似文献

This review presents a chronological discussion of the evolution of our conceptual and experimental understanding of aromaticity as pertaining to the borepin ring structure. Borepin is the boron‐containing charge‐neutral analogue of the carbocyclic tropylium ion, and many molecular variations involving the borepin motif have been synthesized over the past half century. The aromaticity of the borepin system has been probed with ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis), photoluminescence and infrared (IR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, X‐ray crystallography and computational analysis. Recently, the focus of borepin‐containing compounds has shifted to π‐electron materials, building on the foundation of a firm understanding of the physical organic properties of the borepin motif that will allow for electronic fine‐tuning toward desired applications.
