Determination of microgram amounts of azide by gas chromatography

Azide ions (5–120 μg) are oxidized by cerium(IV) in an acidic medium. The nitrogen evolved is displaced by helium carrier and quantified by gas chromatography with a thermal conductivity detector. The relative standard deviation is <5%. Many sulphur anions, cyanide and some metal ions which form azide complexes do not interfere.     

Multicomponent analysis with a computerized flow injection system using LED photometric detection

An original computer-controlled solid-state photometer has been developed and its potential for simultaneous multicomponent flow-injection analysis of binary and ternary mixtures is demonstrated. The device is simple in construction. Its principle of operation is based on rapid sequential measurements of the absorbance of the complexes formed by the analytes with chromogenic reagents at the wavelengths corresponding to the emission maxima of three light emitting diodes (563, 580 and 638 nm).     

Novel Method for HPLC Analysis of Triterpenic Acids Using 9-Anthryldiazomethane Derivatization and Fluorescence Detection

Triterpenic acids are a group of secondary plant metabolites which are part of the cuticular waxes covering fruits, leaves, and flowers. To date, quantitative analysis of these compounds has often been conducted using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with spectrophotometric detection or mass spectrometry; however, these methods have some major drawbacks. This paper reports a new method of analysis implementing derivatization with 9-anthryldiazomethane and fluorescence detection. The method consists of the extraction of analytes from a matrix, purification with anion exchanging SPE columns, and an optional step of the alkaline hydrolysis of triterpenic acid esters. The paper also describes a fast and easy method for the synthesis of the derivatization agent. The detection limits of the method presented are approximately 100-fold lower than in a similar method using ultraviolet spectrophotometry as the mode of detection. The recovery and repeatability of the method are at satisfactory levels.     

Application of High Pressure-DTA for High Pressure-liquid Phase Epitaxy of Doped Mercury and Thallium HTS Formations

The fabrication method of superconducting thin films of compositions HgBa₂Ca₂Cu₃O_8+δ (Hg-1223) and Tl₂Ba₂CuO_y (2201) on single-crystalline SrTiO₃ and LaAlO₃ substrates is reported. The highest obtained T _c was 134 K and J _c over 10⁶ A cm^–2 at 77 K. High pressure DTA(HP-DTA) was applied to grow mercury- and thallium-based high-temperature superconducting crystals and thin films, to identify melting points of particular phases within these oxide systems and determine suitable processing conditions. The DTA system operates at the: maximum temperature of 1200°C, volume up to 5 cm³, working pressure up to 1.5 GPa and at a working atmosphere — inert gas with up to 25% oxygen. New characterizations of the Takagi function via functional equations

We provide two new characterizations of the Takagi function as the unique bounded solution of some systems of two functional equations. The results are independent of those obtained by Kairies (Wy? Szko? Ped Krakow Rocznik Nauk Dydakt Prace Mat 196:73–82, 1998), Kairies (Aequ Math 53:207–241, 1997), Kairies (Aequ Math 58:183–191, 1999) and Kairies et al. (Rad Mat 4:361–374, 1989; Errata, Rad Mat 5:179–180, 1989).     

Stabilization of elasticity–viscoporosity system by linear boundary feedback

The initial boundary value problem for linear elastodynamic system for viscoporous materials is considered. Exponential decay of solutions via the linear boundary feedback is established. Existence of solutions is obtained through the method of c₀‐semigroups. Exponential stabilization is derived via a proper collection of ideas of observability inequality, energy identity and c₀‐semigroup of contractions. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Duality in the cohomology of crystalline local systems

Let k be a perfect field of a positive characteristic p, K-the fraction field of the ring of Witt vectors W(k) Let X be a smooth and proper scheme over W(k). We present a candidate for a cohomology theory with coefficients in crystalline local systems: p -adic étale local systems on X_K characterized by associating to them so called Fontaine-crystals on the crystalline site of the special fiber X _k. We show that this cohomology satysfies a duality theorem.     

Joint universality for dependent <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis>-functions

We prove that, for arbitrary Dirichlet L-functions \(L(s;\chi _1),\ldots ,L(s;\chi _n)\) (including the case when \(\chi _j\) is equivalent to \(\chi _k\) for \(j\ne k\)), suitable shifts of type \(L(s+i\alpha _jt^{a_j}\log ^{b_j}t;\chi _j)\) can simultaneously approximate any given set of analytic functions on a simply connected compact subset of the right open half of the critical strip, provided the pairs \((a_j,b_j)\) are distinct and satisfy certain conditions. Moreover, we consider a discrete analogue of this problem where t runs over the set of positive integers.
