Composite optical vortices in noncollinear Laguerre--Gaussian beams and their propagation in free space

Taking two Laguerre-Gaussian beams with topological charge 1 = ±1 as an example, this paper studies the composite optical vortices formed by two noncollinear Laguerre-Gaussian beams with different phases, amplitudes, waist widths, off-axis distances, and their propagation in free space. It is shown by detailed numerical illustrative examples that the number and location of composite vortices at the waist plane are variable by varying the relative phase β, amplitude ratio η, waist width ratio ξ, or off-axis distance ratio μ. The net topological charge lnet is not always equal to the sum lsum of charges of the two component beams. The motion, creation and annihilation of composite vortices take place in the free-space propagation, and the net charge during the propagation remains unchanged and equals to the net charge at the waist plane.

The strong solution of the Monge–Ampère equation on the Wiener space for log-concave densities

Let (W,H,μ) be an abstract Wiener space, assume that $\text{d}\text{ν=L}\text{d}\text{μ}$ is a second probability measures on $\text{(W,}\text{B}\text{(W))}$ such that $\text{L=}\text{1}\text{c}\text{exp}\text{?f}$, with $\text{f∈}\text{D}{}_{\mathrm{2,1}}$ lower bounded and H-convex. Let $\text{T=I}{}_{\mathrm{W}}\text{+??,}\text{?∈}\text{D}{}_{\mathrm{2,1}}$, be the solution of the Monge problem transporting μ to ν and realizing the H-Wasserstein distance between μ and ν. We prove that $\text{?∈}\text{D}{}_{\mathrm{2,2}}$ hence the Gaussian Jacobian $\text{Λ=}\text{det}{}_2\text{(I+?}{}^2\text{?)}\text{exp}\text{{}\text{L}\text{??1/2|??|}{}_{\mathrm{H}}{}^2\text{}}$ is well-defined and T is the strong solution of the Monge–Ampère equation ΛL°T=1 a.s. on W. Propagation of the Wigner distribution function for partially coherent nonparaxial beams

On the basis of the Rayleigh-Sommerfeld diffraction integral, a closed-form propagation expression for the Wigner distribution function of partially coherent nonparaxial beams in free space is derived for what is to our knowledge the first time. The propagation of spatially fully coherent nonparaxial beams is treated as a special case of our general result. Application of the result is illustrated with the nonparaxial propagation of partially coherent anisotropic Gaussian-Schell-model beams and TEM11-mode Hermite-Gaussian beams.     

On the embedding of some linear spaces in finite projective planes

The problem of embedding of linear spaces in finite projective planes has been examined by several authors ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]). In particular, it has been proved in [1] that a linear space which is the complement of a projective or affine subplane of order m is embeddable in a unique way in a projective plane of order n. In this article, we give a generalization of this result by embedding linear spaces in a finite projective plane of order n, which are complements of certain regularA-affine linear spaces with respect to a finite projective plane.

On the mechanism of the N,N‐dimethyl amination of Grignard reagents: a kinetic study

A direct kinetic study is reported for the electrophilic amination of substituted phenylmagnesium bromides with N,N‐dimethyl O‐(mesitylenesulfonyl)hydroxylamine in THF. Rate data, Hammett relationship, and activation entropy are consistent with a S_N2 displacement involving the attack of carbanions to sp³N in the amination reagent (AR).
